Honestly, it feels like one we will miss out on.

But is it a massive deal? We have plenty of young depth with real talent in the midfield anyway.

We are crying out for a big forward target (Allen please!) to help Dear out. Chol is battling a bit and Lewis'body cant be trusted.

That said, if Allen comes as a FA, we could get both...

Allen is just as durable

The guy could become the next Cripps, so of course we're going to try to get him.

But if we are really in with a chance for Reid, then it doesn't matter.
We will be using all draft/trade capital on that trade, not getting Greaves.

I suppose it's good to have options at this early stage.

Just need to make the point, they are seperate.
If we traded all our picks(including 2026 F1) for Reid & we have picks 78,79 & 80 and we can still draft Greaves at Pick 1 if he was on NGA list.
We will be in deficit for 2026, that's all and 2026 picks get eaten up( Won't have them anyway if we used them for Reid).

So even more important to do our best to try and get Greaves on list and aim for Reid and Allen.

I had not considered that.
Hope it's true.

why are we still talking about this bloke unless we are appealing the AFL decision ?? if not he's gone and we need to move on
NGA or not, it's a player we have already declared an interest in that has attempted to get to the club. Come draft night we may select him. We don't know what pick/picks we'll have or where players will fall in the pecking order after another year of development.

Then if he ends up elsewhere, he'll always be linked with us.

I don't maths but I'm pretty sure that's not right.

I don't maths but I'm pretty sure that's not right.
As per current draft rules, my math is correct. If you don't have picks( with points) then the points will be deducted off next year's picks in same round and later. So pick 1 needs 2400 points which will get deducted off 2026 picks. If you got no picks in 2026, no big deal. That is a loophole the AFL keeps open for Cats to exploit before closing. But we can trigger that too.

The rules were supposed to change soon requiring clubs to hold picks within same round or something like that to match bids but still not finalised. Lots of grey areas in such rules that make it hard to match bids.

We would have to use draft capital to get him so would have to trade out of the pick or use it for points

Again not really, see above. If we hold pick 4 and Greaves gets bid on at 5 and we don't have picks, we go into deficit and will affect 2026 1st round pick & later.

Draft pick indexation is / has changed I believe. Which is fair, the bonus should be early access to the player you have developed and want!

Pretty sure Picks 77, 78 & 79 don't hold any points value anymore.

I've never really bothered looking at Points Tables etc. - plenty of other posters do it very well: FB19 is one). Can you point to a Points Table where the allocated points value of 77 + 78 + 79 equals ~Pick 5?

They don’t. In that scenario we will just have the last picks in the draft (which is where 77, 78 and 79) come in.

And we will have to go into a deficit to match. Which will affect future picks but if we got Reid and Greaves it wouldn’t matter.

Thanks Brant the points are changing this year so only picks in the first three rounds will carry points. Unsure if the values are being revisited. Like all things AFL will likely announce it on the night!

Imagine we had this kid coming our way after all the Samshanigans of this week!
One could only imagine:
  • we win the GF
  • NGA rights to Greaves allowed after a rethink
  • Blues finish bottom 3 allowing us to trade for Harley Reid
  • Zac Butters flags his intentions to come to the Hawks
  • Oscar Allen nominates the Hawks as FA
The natives will riot 😂
