I have no doubt the appeal will be granted also. His job is an AFL footballer, he should be able to work.

Is there a crossover between employment law and criminal law or does one trump the other
Surely special circumstances are invoked and the curfew is for 87 days not 90

Surely he can't be allowed to play interstate either? Which would mean 6/12 games he won't be available for selection by my count. Plus one more possibly in July when the fixture is confirmed - Adelaide at the MCG would surely be a day game, but Geelong at GMHBA could be at night and Essendon at the MCG will be a night game (Dreamtime at the G).

Should be ultra thankful it's not a harsher punishment if anything the magistrate was cutting him a break probably due partly because of the guilty plea for sure. Whether it's work or not the curfews are there for his own good, and having the alcohol ban is a good thing. The court will just say no one is stopping him getting paid for his job and he can play VFL, it's not an 'emergency' to get around the curfew.

Lawyers just setting up for appeals, but surely Balta isn't that dumb, would take longer to get to an appeal and he may get a judge that isn't so nice.

His lawyer asked for an exception to this ruling to allow the Richmond Tigers footballer to play scheduled night matches.

Richmond has two scheduled night matches in that period including Thursday's Anzac eve clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

Magistrate Humphrey told the court the curfew was a punitive element and said Balta would be required to make changes to his employment to fit the sentence

He is. He'll be able to do every training session and I'm sure he'll play VFL when his curfew means he can't line up in the AFL.

Did you forget who he plays for? Richmond only have 2 interestate games in that time.

Think that's just the rookie contracts, Balta is on what near a million I'm sure he'll live without that. Think there are 'match payments' in terms of wins but they go into some joint thing, happy to be corrected there though. Balta is on a set salary whatever that is, he aint on breadcrumbs.

I don't think many people would have a job if it brought their employers name into disrepute either.

No one in the football industry outside of a player would still have a job if they did something as abhorrent as this.
