Much prefer Butts over Borlase, guessing he only got the nod as the latter was unavailable though.

Smith over any one of Bond, Edwards or Ryan is mindbogglingly stupid. We need to get games into those guys when we can, may only get limited chances. Have had a lot of respect for Smithers but he is completely cooked.

We already refuse to play Draper in his correct position or for a full game, felt like we were waiting for an opportunity to drop him. Our current coaching group have no idea how to develop young mids.

Its Nicks. All we can hope is the club takes notice and finally acts.

Nicks thinks he will save his job by picking cooked veterans. This will fastrack his sacking so on the brightside it's a good selection if it leads to Nicks being sacked quicker.

Its a fair assessment. Can we really argue he deserved to be selected other than on potential though. You cant carry potential into every game and expect to win. He really has not performed. He would know that. Going back to the Sanfl for a few weeks to get a few full games under his belt and practice running patterns I think will make him better for it.
Are you talking about ROB ?

This was a fair and reasonable post, certainly showing more calm than I can muster
They were pretty expected changes to be honest and gives us a pretty good chance this weekend. There is a lot of people that have turned on Smith for some reason, however he’s clearly still on our list for exactly this scenario, to replace Hinge or Worrell if they are out for 1 or 2 weeks, and his form has been excellent in the 2’s.
Why isn't one of the young fellas ready to come in as a replacement for Hinge?
(I think the answer is: Nicks, who just has not got enough games into them).
Not just that, he prefers and trusts over-the-hill experience when a lesser experienced player might just seize the opportunity and shine.
I also understand giving Draper a few weeks to play full time midfield in the SANFL. Whether or not we supporters agree, all sides in the AFL do the same thing. Even absolute stars like Daicos and Sheezel played their first year or 2 on limited minutes and off half back, while the vast majority are in and out of the side and predominantly playing forward. We don’t need to panic, Sid will play 250 games for this club.
This is true too. We don't know how big a tank Draper has, nor if the last weekend really drained him.
My big problem is --- I just don't trust Nicks (see below) to know how to get the best out of him.
Of the current list, how many are really better than when we got them, because of Nicks?
Soligo but he was always super-keen and used to haunt Nicks for the opportunity to play.
Thilthorpe; was a scrawny thing and has really filled out into a young man-Mountain. He's gonna be hell-good.
Fogarty.
Max, but he was ready-made from Game One and has shown natural development.
I'm too tired to go through the whole list.

Despite what a lot of people think, We actually have a pretty good record of managing young players. Tex, Worrell and Tom Doedee come to mind and all those guys have since admitted that being held back helped their career long term.
Tex is pre-Nicks and Nicks is our current biggest problem.
I think I am just tired, tired, tired:
--- no Flag since '98
--- crushing loss in '17, hopes up and down and now totally fed up with Nicks.

What he does is just soooo ... looking for the right word ... bland?
Mediocre?
Unsuccessful?
Uninspiring? etc etc.

There is no way he survives another year of no finals
Especially after the recruiting and list they have built

I am at the point if we lose this week (and I think we will - Carltons mids will bully us and thier 2 KPF will have a field day)
Nicks will panic and make dumb selections

We will freefall and he gets the arse

Bring in Dyson Sharp and NWM with a new coach ( Simpson, Buckley or Longmire) any of those 3 will do
I enjoy your enthusiasm and hope you are right. I fear you are wrong though

You might be right. The Club has shown its hand. It's determined to prop up their failing choice for that absurd 2-year extension.

If any one of those three are brought back it'll be hotter'n'Hell in here around 6p.m. ACST.
If there are more than one, Scorpus will be like:

Only 1 of the 3, makes me feel slightly better. I'll enjoy watching smith butcher the ball and be unaccountable all arvo

Why would you play Nank on a HFF and Cumming on a wing, when you could play either at HB and avoid bringing Grandpa Smith in? Surely thats the move if you dont think Edwards/Ryan is ready? There was no need for them to even consider Smith.

Dawson could go back.
Cumming could go back
Nank could go back (instead of bloody HFF)

Give Peatling Crouch's minutes

Keep Sid in the side. Give Rash some CBA's.

Bring Berry in for inside cover, or bring Harry in for a sub role, or bring Hugh Bond in if you want a lockdown.

It just seems to me that bringing Smith in was not only unnecessary but also diminishes the side's versatility.
