Ley or Taylor would be a disaster.

Angie Bell is impressive but doubt they would be a childless lesbian in charge. What other competent female MPs do they have? It really is a shallow party room.

I think the Liberals are likely to be replaced as the second major party in Australian politics over the next decade. That said, 3 years is a very long time in politics. Just ask Campbell Newman!

I very much doubt Albo does a Newman.

He's nowhere near as, um, excitable as Newman was.

Bernard Keane must have opened up a bottle early this morning to think that Sussan Ley presents a "sensible, voter-friendly" face. He's been roasted in the replies to him as a result. He'll probably lock his account again, he's so thin-skinned.
I voted sussssan in the poll. Figure she will be the cannon fodder place holder as a token gesture to try and repair the lack of appeal to women

I cannot picture Sussan Ley as the prime minister in any universe, even this clown one. I cannot think of a less fitting person for the role, except maybe Barnaby.

They would have to be trying to make themselves a meme party if they did that.

I'm not sure if that appeal is real. But let's say it is. How much of it would stick after a man knifes her?
Depends on how she exits and whether there have been preselection changes etc while she is there. It may be after another election loss (one where there is some improvement) she then chooses to step down in favour of the next leader, that scenario would not have the negative of knifing

Liberals are irrelevant over this coming parliamentary term anyway unless major alp stuff up

I think it has to be Ley. Might pass as a mediocre somewhat messy opposition leader and will probably score some political points along the way, show an aspiration to grow beyond the blue tie and (more recently) blokey vibe a little. Probably has retirement in sight too, 63yo, been member since 2001, mostly been party frontbench since Howard, a bit of everything in terms of portfolios and factions (and regions), a woman. They need to win back middle aged women, Teal-prone candidates, etc. Like Dutton has already weathered various scandals and the like, won’t wilt in a heap. Not sure how it works though within the Coalition ranks. Could see a Senator whose term ends in 2028 doing a Barnaby/Bronwyn and running for the lower house. The next term must be focused on a closer fight on the political spectrum, reclaiming the center and hanging the dog whistle on a hook.

No one who wants to be challenging Albo in 3 years will want the job right now.

My money is still on Ley or Taylor for the next 18 months with Hastie replacing either one to get a clear runway at the 2028 election.
