Getting Curtin off Adelaide will be very hard. They gave up a top 10 pick and a second round pick for him. Plus the 3 years and 40 or so games they will have invested him by the end of next year. They will want a King's ransom.
That's not how it works, you just offer a couple of late picks and say that's all we have.

/Geelong'd.

Isn’t parfitt a short term plug for the midfield? If that’s what we’re looking for why wouldn’t we take dom brew who’s averaging 30 disposals and 8 tackles in the tougher league vs parfitts 31/3.5 in the wafl?

I get what you're saying, but I actually don't think the VFL is a tougher league at all.

Used to live in Melbourne and knew a few players and staff from Williamstown, Werribee etc. The vibe is that there's a lot of priority on development, getting players drafted/noticed, strengthening Victorian footy and the Victorian AFL clubs even within the non-AFL tied clubs.

End result is a bit of a development league where young blokes get first opportunity, half the sides are dictated by AFL availability, if a player is looking like a draft chance the team will do everything it can to help them look good etc. Sort of league where you'd be totally happy for the opposition's best player to get 35 touches if your best player also got 35 touches. Great for the Vic AFL teams, but the vibe feels less 'serious' than what I understand of the WAFL - Gold Coast won the VFL premiership in their third season in the comp for instance.

The WAFL comparatively feels like hardened clubs run by old school types with their own history/goals, who are all 100% gunning for a WAFL premiership. Older, harder bodies on average, more tagging, good players sacrificing their games etc. Makes it harder/worse for West Coast but IMO more impressive when a player (especially a delisted one in their first season) does well in that environment.

Whether or not we take a short-term plug is another question, and if we go down that path and rate Brew higher than sure. I'd probably like us to go more all-in for a Tom Evans or Kobe Ryan who might surprise us and add long-term value but if it was just a WAFL vs VFL choice I'd probably go with the WAFL player.

Also lived in Melbourne, it's an interesting discussion.

Want to know peoples thoughts. AFL 2025 draft starts tomorrow and as a hypothetical Oscar does leave giving us pick 2 or 3. Who are we drafting with pick 1 and 2 or 3. GO!
We're a long way out. For the last few years, the guys ranked top 3 at this point mostly maintained their position all the way through. I've seen Sharp drift to outside 10. CDT and Duursy are the only constants. The rest (inc. Sharp) are like yo-yo's.

I wouldn't take Lindsay under any circumstances. Don't ever spend a top 5 on an outsider. He plays more like Dylan Shiel than Dylan Shiel.

Come the champs, we will know who's who. I'm tipping there will be some really good ball winners in that top 3, and I'm taking two of them. I think Sharp will be there.

But right now, I have no idea who they are. So I'd take CDT and Sharp.

Come draft day, the only way I'm taking CDT is if other top tier prospects are suspect or flighty. I think it's way easier to find an elite ruckman than a prime mid outside the top 5.

I’d go Kobe Ryan in the MSD. Give him an opportunity see if he’s grown up.

Averages 26 disposals and 9 tackles a game at SANFL last year.

21 yrs old at worst he dominants in the midfield at WAFL level bringing some of our young guys into the game.
Agree, looks like a choice of Kobe Ryan or Tom Evans and Tom Evans hasn't been a big performer in the YG games.
No KPD or ruckman look standouts, more speculative.

Yeah absolutely. Would be massive leading our young midfield at WAFL level. Would also be a type we don't really have, high production and covers the ground really well for full games.

Perfect age as well. Balance of being a stopgap mid option, but also someone who can develop with our young list and has a chance of being a rgood, long-term player at AFL level.

Nice insight and I 100% agree with your preference of players to be selected.

I would only take CDT is if we had a band 1 compo from Oscar. We ned to get at least 1 elite midfield prospect to go with Harley (assuming he stays) and Hewitt (assuming he's fit).

Blake Kelly SD could go top 20-30 in the draft , our second rounder would get a reliable midfielder in Kelly had 30 possession , 3.1 last Colts game .
Second round local midfielder .

I dont see the point in grabbing another tall in the MSD. None are going to be high level and we have way too many average talls already on the list.

Agreed

Unless there’s a standout tall, which there doesn’t appear to be, then I’d rather go the best youngish (19-22) mid/HB available

Personally if Darcy Cameron is interested in returning I'll happily give up the hawks pick for him.

That pick could be eaten up by a Wally bid anyway.

Cameron would be a really good get for a developing midfield like ours.

This is an interesting observation and is actually a fair point which leads to a couple of observations

1) It aligns with the view of people like Monocle who have been critical of our use of Oscar Allen as a backup ruck early in his career and how that may have contributed to his injury concerns

2) Reinforces my concerns around taking Cooper Duff-Tytler with our early pick, particularly if we don’t end up with the Allen compo
