If Carlton lose I’d say they’re in no-man’s land. Their list build and trade/draft strategies show that they think they should be competing for a flag yet their results show that they’re nowhere near that. They’re going to get burnt in a few years when their current crop ages out and they don’t have any young guys coming through because they traded all their picks away.
Which picks have we traded out recently?

Your first and second rounders from this year to Hawthorn. I know that trade ended up getting you Smith but it's left you with your first pick in this year's draft being Brisbane's second-rounder, which currently looks like it'll be right at the end of that round. Not ideal, especially given some of the big holes on your list.

This years first and second as part of the positioning to get the Jagga pick.
Of course we shouldn't forget that Jagga isn't playing and may well be a gun.

While true we still have 4 NGA/FS players to pick up this year so it's hardly like we're leaving the cupboard bare for youth as we're going.

Last year we picked up 4 kids at the national draft, 1 at the MSD and 2 in the rookie/pre season supplementary period.

Jagga Smith - Pick 3
Harry O'Farrell - Pick 40
Ben Camporeale - F/S
Lucas Camporeale - F/S

Cooper Lord - MSD
Harry Charleson - Rookie
Will White - Pre season

Then we'll likely add 4 kids this year

Jack Ison - Likely late first/2nd rounder
Harry Dean - Likely late first/2nd rounder
Tyson Gresham - 3rd rounder/Rookie
Mingara Clark - 3rd rounder/Rookie

2026
Cody Walker - Shaping up as a likely top 1-5 pick

I hardly think the Blues are neglecting picking up youth while we go or that we've traded out of the draft. If TDK or another big name goes I'd assume we'll use those picks at the draft too.

Geelong were also missing a player the whole match: our best defender Stewart. It's one reason our late charge ultimately fell flat. The players were making all sorts of fatigue based errors.
But you were able to sub him out and replace him with someone else. We’d already subbed someone out and then Hunter Clark did whatever injury has kept him out the whole time since, and while staggeringly not one word was mentioned of it in commentary, he didn’t play any of the last quarter, and they only wheeled him out briefly in the 3rd (actually sent him to the goalsquare, right in front of us).

So while not one word was said about it in commentary, we were down a rotation for the whole final quarter and most of the 2nd half.

You must’ve loved the last 20 years!

The bright lights of a packed MCG on a Friday night. Against a middling Carlton side with defenders dropping like flies. All that space for their runners.

And they dish up 9.8.62.
We attacked, Carlton flooded back.

To fart constanza are Carlton football terrorists.

I think we’re tracking ok, still pumping games into the likes of O’Connell, Collard, Boxhead, Wilson, Garcia, Sharman etc

Most teams can say that though. Geelong pumping AFL games into COS, Mullin, Dempsey, Clohesy, Clark, Mannagh, Humphries, Neale, Wiltshire etc.

As these players get better, older ones will retire or decline. At some point you need to actually climb out of no man's land and do something.
