I don’t get the umpire hate. What 50 was not warranted? All valid and brain fades. How they didn’t pay insufficient intent against Tex … amazing. We did fine from the umpires. 75% of the team play well below par and we mailed in the last 10 minutes
Umpires would usually call players back and give a warning but he pinged Rankine straight away for encroaching the mark and the 50m in our defense, what was that for??? Port Power got the rub of the green in the first half and we got the rub of the green in the 2nd half but the umpiring was shit for the entire game.

Keane: Yeah, we just wanted to play footy. That's all we're here for is playing footy and have a good brand of footy, and just, whoever wins the contest is footy, and wins the footy will win the game, and I like to think that, um, we... we put our heads where you wouldn't put your shoes so we're very happy with that.
Poetry.
Oirish logic, applied to the Aussie game.

Rankine is our most talented player and obviously stood up with two important goals in the last. That's exactly what my post said.

Problem is our most talented player only had about 6 good plays for an entire game and coughed the ball up on multiple occasions. Against good sides 2 goals in the last qtr won't matter.
Put me down for having Rankine kick 2 goals in the last quarter of every game.

Good: ROB played very well around the ground.
Nicks not just dropping players like Nank, curtain and Taylor. Allowing them to have poor games and giving them chances to respond. Thought nank had a pretty underrated game.

I've done my best to transcribe Keane's fantastic response:

Question: How did you treat the contest? It was always going to be hot, Mark, how did Nicksy and the crew... because last year there was some hot-headed moments, and maybe you lost your nerve... how did you approach it tonight?

Keane: Yeah, we just wanted to play footy. I loved when he said he would shove Murray against Thilthorpe in training lol

We obviously wont be able to draft him this year but I hope we are regularly in Sharp's ear.

I'm over have a plodding midfield.
Sharp isn't quick and his kicking needs work.

Will need a big Nationals to regain his previous high rating.

Ollie Greeves worth keeping an eye on and Riley Onley who hasn't quite out it all together yet this season but I think his time to shine will be the Nationals for VC. Both big bodied mids.

He's a thorough campaigner!
To be honest, I made my post at half time. The post still remained correct, although at least we were not screwed by the umps in the dying minutes of a close game again.

Rankine walked into the protected zone .. not that hard. The one where Laird pushed a player ages after the mark when he wasn’t in the contest? Come on that is obvious.

What??? If there is anything left in the crack pipe - please share it with friends.

We are the #1 team for Goals, #1 team for Goal Assists, #2 for marks inside 50 in the league despite being 7th for inside 50's.

We have the best forward line in the league. We had 41 inside 50's last night and had 24 scoring shots.

Our 3 KPF have 61 goals between them and are sitting 2nd, 7th and 14th in the Coleman race.

Our 3 smalls - are all in the top 40 for goals with Keays, Rachele, Rankine combining for 39 goals through 9 games.

How in the world could we be more dynamic?!?!?
Thank goodness some people post with facts rather than just emotions

Sharp I think projects as a Scott Thompson type with a bit more skill

For us out of SA boys Roberts-Thompson and Cumming interest me but I don’t think we should be SA centric

I’d love to get Cody Curtin

Thought Rob should have really monstered Vin in ruck but didn’t the same shit over and over again. Surely he should have decided himself to change things!
We won even more Hough all our guns didn’t play well, which is impressive.
Need to work on our midfield and defensive structure, just to many times we made simple mistakes.

Hope they review this game hard, port tapped the ball forward a lot and eventually got a clearance. We always wanted to pick the ball up which gave them time to tackle us.

Very good: just finally saw Mark Keane's interview. Bloke is hilarious!!

"How do you go on Thilthorpe at training?"

"I don't, I get Nick Murray to take him. I say 'Muzz, over here'. I'll take the tirty-six year old, Tex"

Blake Oudshoon-Bennier building nicely the last 2 weeks after returning from a long injury sojourn.

It is honestly hilarious coming onto this site after only having talked to people in the real world since the game. You’d truly believe that we lost by 10 goals and are last on the table. I’ve read that Nicks must be sacked immediately, that our forward line lacks pizazz, that we should have dropped Taylor and Curtin before last night as well as that our midfield whoes would have been fixed if we’d kept Draper in the side.

Nicks derangement syndrome is rapidly replacing Trump derangement syndrome here, where the blind hatred of the coach doesn’t enable people to evaluate anything unemotionally. There is simply no logic to most views about last nights game.

For the record we are 1 umpiring decision against GC from potentially being equal top of the ladder, we have a brilliant percentage and have unearthed some true gems in Worrell and Peatling etc. As for last night
  • giving Taylor (a young player that Nicks apparently gives no responsibility to) the job on Rozee was perfectly sound. He was just found badly wanting.
  • trying to get Dawson to break his tag by going to their hottest midfielder in Butters is also a perfectly sound and creative move. The skipper simply wasn’t up to the task on the night. The player freed up by this also obviously didn’t exploit that situation.
  • getting numbers back when you are 4 goals up with 10 minutes to go in a showdown is also perfectly sound, however when a senior player like Milera miskicks directly into the centre of the ground with no one between that mistake and their goal is such a terrible individual decision that I wonder how anyone could be blaming any coach for it.

All in all that was a fantastic win and has set our season up beautifully. I said before the Carlton game that if we can win 1 of the next 2 we should make finals, and if we win both then top 4 is a real possibility. We have at least 11 games coming where we would be favourites at the moment and several others that are quite winnable, anything is possible this year with this team if we can stay relatively injury free.
