Autopsy Round 9, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

Harley will continue to get umpired unfairly or rubbed out by the MRO on bullshit charges on any possible occassion until he makes it back to a Vic club. Its clear they are trying to make life as difficult as they can for the Messiah until he returns to the promised land.
I hope he sees it and digs his heels in and signs a big contract with us but it becomes more difficult to see it happening with each loss.

Baker asked to leave
Bolton asked to leave
Rioli asked to leave.
Martin retired
Grimes retired

More likes rats jumping off the sinking ship than hard discisions from the club.

What you can give them credit for is being able to extra overs value for these players
You could make an argument that those players left to chase bigger dollars in the final stage of their careers after taking unders for a long time to be at a club in a premiership window. Richmond got the best of all worlds in terms of them playing for unders for all that time and then got good value at the trade table when they left.

Gross had a mare but the fact that he wasble able to get himself into the game in the heat of the battle in that 10 mins is quite incredible as a lot of kids do struggle in that situation. Really hope this doesn’t dent his confidence
Have a great debut, dropped to sub the next week, dropped to the WAFL the following week after getting 10 min as sub, tear up for 3 weeks in the WAFL, return as a 10 minute sub.
If that doesnt fill the lad with confidence I dont know what will. Brilliant handling of a young player who has as much upside as any we have seen in the past 10 years (Harley excluded).

Is it time we question Mini using Hough in the middle? He is doing ok but hardly doing what we need from him in there. Are we potentially robbing a future AA backmen in by making a make shift mid. Personally even I don’t know. He has fit in so well intk that defence last few years that I’m worried we might actually play him out of form by persisting with him in the middle.

I’ve posted about this before but up to and including our R10 game against Adelaide last year (when Harley received 7 free kicks and copped some criticism that he was playing for/ drawing free kicks)

Frees for - 26
Frees against - 17

The next week we played St Kilda and Windholder was sent to him after half time and was allowed to scrap him with impunity. Harley responded with some ill disciplined acts, including getting suspended for a “dangerous” tackle on the basis of the little used potential to cause injury. But I digress

From that game

Frees for - 26
Frees against - 56

This season alone he’s 11 for, 26 against

It’s ridiculous

This is all mini’s undoing sadly. Even persisting with Archer when he is so outta it is bot great for his development. As bad as the sides been, mini has been going as bad as them tbh

Does anyone know if the club has made a complaint to the V/AFL ?

Went to the game. Absolutely gutted after that one. Biggest negative is the team missing that winning feeling, if we had pinched it at the end there would have been massive for everyone. Away from home, at the G. Now I feel it's going to be harder to get the boys up for next week. A win can do amazing things for confidence.

Positive for me was Harley looked great and influential. But can someone please tell me what the free kick was for when he stiff armed some Richmond flog? At the game it was impossible to tell. And no one around me could tell me, someone said high fend off? The umpires on him are ridiculous. That 50m penalty was absolute trash and you know it.

Thought ryan was really good, I hope he doesn't leave. Hmm Duggan frustrating, missed opportunities always come back to bite us. Hewett quiet in last 1/4 was hoping he and Harley magic would get us over the line.
He ran to far with the ball

Had a full game on debut against GWS. Had a full game against Carlton the week after. Dropped to the sub against Essendon before going back to the WAFL.

Hewett has shown more.

He (Gross) was pick 46, is slightly built and needs plenty of development.

Should have come on earlier today and I would hope if he is in the seniors next week, it is for a full game. The martyrdom of him is a bit much however.

It's a bit like that

The positive is stepping back and looking at the bigger picture. We’re now in games longer than we used to be. We should have won today and it’s been a while since we could say that.

It’s a softer draw now, for sure, but that hasn’t meant much in prior years. And it’s very hard to learn a new system at the same time that you’re getting smashed, so doing it against equivalent teams is the way to build and get confidence in it.
I'm with you, and I'm not quite sure why this is the year where it seems patience has run out amongst the broader supporter base.

Perhaps it's because I've tuned out of footy media, here too really, but I tune in to watch us each week and I see positive signs. I see a variety of kids playing and developing. I can see the game plan more and more.

Today sucked but I also felt something, and I think we're headed in the right direction. Yes we're bad but at least we're bad with a young(er) team. Being bad means better access to talent, and the sooner we can turn over the list, get rid of the dead weight and add actual talent, the better.

Good point but I do like his clean tackling and more importantly he takes the tackle very soundly as well to get us a repeat stoppage. Blokes got some real game sense

It could be something to do with us being fairly rubbish in the midfield, we find a young player who shows some promise there after two games and then we barely play him since

He had a good first game, fell away in the second. Needs time like a few others.

Happy for him to stay in in place of Kelly.

Harley and Hewett are the two who need to start leading the mids. Gross is a support act at present.

- Thought after a down patch in the 3rd Maric came back strongly & finished the game well.

- Everytime Hewitt touches is something good generally happens.

- Brockman looked great in the middle. Chased well, looked damaging & actually looks like he has some composure. A lot to build on.

- After a shaky start Brock built into it nicely & I think there’s a lot to work with.
Brockman cost us that game with his stupid push on a tigers player that was reversed by the umpire and resulted in a Richmond goal. Nothing else he did in the game made up for that act of gross stupidity.
Tom Cole wasn't far behind him going for a spoil in the goal square and knocking it forward to Lynch instead of knocking it towards the boundary line for safety.

No one is expecting him to dominate every game for us, of course he's not going to be our main midfielder, like I said in a previous post rotate him through the middle.
But he should absolutely be playing over most of the senior spuds we've got in the team at the moment, he needs consistent game time, not 10 minutes in the 4th quarter.

Finally getting to watch the game, after first quarter:

Effort is ok, without Gov we have ZERO defensive aerial presence when defending oppo kick outs. Why the hell did no one tell Brockman to pull his ****ing head in after reversing a 50M?! MINI didn't even look angry about it! If that was Dimma he would have smashed the phone, marched down the boundary, pulled him off and given it to him! Brockman had numerous incidents after that also. Our skills are quite poor. Owies needs the twos.

Yes I said as much before. Happy for him to take Kelly or Graham’s role in the middle. If he does go back to WAFL, when he returns hopefully it is for an extended run of full games, no more being the sub.
