Now you're sounding dumb, they reverse them often. He clearly shoved him in the back, soft or not. They get reversed. Stop blaming the umpires, player's need to take some accountability, that's why we're in the position we are, lack of standards, lack of leadership, lack of accountability (from top to bottom). Get better, do better, be smarter, work harder. Be professional.
I'm not saying he should have done it, it was dumb to do it to a flopper like Trainor.

I'm saying that this happens all the time and it's never reversed.

Umps are clearly looking for a reason to punish out team for minor stuff whilst letting obvious shit go for oppo.

The bloke he pushed took a dive and it 100% would have not been overturned if it was the other way around. Cant even remember the last time an overturned free kick has gone our way and there’s been plenty of opportunities for one.

Brockman was good today and once again led the side in clearances. Needs to be persisted with as a mid.

That was soft and undisciplined by Brockman to retaliate after he had the free kick and then a 50 metre penalty .. Really soft to then play the tough guy and push the player over , very selfish and got the team punished on the scoreboard ..

You really believe that? Or just frustrated with loss?

Well, look at the reversal of frees for Harley since the St kilda game, for starters.

Also that random 50 against Harley, which Ralph-Smith kicked a goal from for 'knocking the ball out', when he didn't even touch is and RS just straight up dropped it on his own.

Even Dermott complained about a number of frees against us this game.

Nah that was a bullshit 50. The Richmond guy took a dive and has a history with doing that.
It wasn't necessary though. Brockman just has to be smarter than that. Take the 50, move the ball forward.

Yes but all clubs get bad runs. Yiu know this.there is no directive to the umps to shaft us though. Why would the AFL give a crap about frees for or against us?

Spent the day behind enemy lines in Richmond’s ‘Club 13’ getting far too refreshed.

There’s plenty of things that have already been covered.

If anyone points the finger at Gross, your finger needs the Daniel Chick treatment.

Semi flashbacks to Shuey in the final against Collingwood many years ago, tried to take the game on and got caught HTB a few times. A lot to learn from this. Gross to win a Norm?

Also, found myself making a potential revenue recommendation to Don straight after his post game function speak, hopefully what I spat out made some sense to him. Full blown nuff mode, I know.

Anyone blaming Gross is a grub, jack graham sent him just as he got his handball receive, pointed told him to go. Kelly was useless, Gross out worked him in his 15 minutes
Didn't tell him to bounce the ball, the kid made a mistake, stop trying to blame it on everyone else.
If he takes responsibility for his mistakes he'll learn from them.

I don't believe that the AFL is either that ethical, or competent.

Theres signs of improvement at least but can't help but feel like that is a game we really should have won given the dominance we had for a long period of time.

+ve
  • From half way through the first qtr all the way to the final siren, our pressure was elite. That needs to be the standard
  • Sustained periods of midfield dominance and forward half play. Can see what we are trying to do.
  • Tom Gross, we really need to give him some full games in the middle. He's a natural ball winner and thats something we clearly lack at the moment. Sure he got done holding the ball a couple of times and that last one was very costly but its all a learning curve for the kid
  • Harley really tried to lift the team and it was good to see, that goal he scored was great, and I suspect had the whistle not gone for that BS "ran too far" call he was primed to sieze that moment aswell.

-ve
  • losing hurts, the team really needed that and you can tell by the emotion at the end how devastated they were.
  • Wasted way too many opportunities. With the dominance we had through the middle parts of the game, we really should have gone into 3qtr time with at least a 3 or 4 goal lead.
  • I pumped up Hewetts tyres big time this week, but he had a bit of a down game today which was a bit disappointing. Not worried though, the consistency will come
  • Waterman, while he's far from being bad. We desperately need the 2024 version asap
  • Liam Duggan....... need I say more?

Overall it's an odd feeling, 2 games in the last 3 weeks lost by 2 points. We really should have won both but at least we aren't getting blown out. This group needs a win though, lets hope it next week.

Gross was taking the game on and having a crack so not really a mistake ..Sometimes they come off and occasionally they get caught .. It’s part of his natural game ..

Didn't need to bounce the ball.

edit- I haven't watched a replay to see if they were close enough to block, but i suspect not, regardless he had to act quicker, he'll learn.
They were but they’re all just looking forward with no consideration about what’s going on around them - mentally switched off on how they can further impact without ball in hand seen all too often in our team. I think Reid was on the closest side, Graham on the other and Reid really doesn’t show any interest/effort in making an impact on defensive side of the ball.

More than one party at fault in it all but not really all that important. Important part is that this is a very tough lesson for gross to get up to full speed first before bouncing. Not really sure how you get to this level without having that coached into you. Hopefully that’s the last we see of the bounce off two steps.

Yeh right. Do you think he did watching on TV? Assuming here you were watching on tv! What did the commentators say, I don't know why it felt like a momentum killer for us at the time.
It looked like he did.. look Kellie underwood was commentating, there’s nil chance of what she said being correct

Oh well.
I couldn't get invested in the game until the last qtr. It was just so shambolic.
It would've been the accidental win, if we did.
Gov might've been the difference, or Waterman sinking a couple more highly gettable goals.

Every week the seniors get roasted here, deservedly so, but it's never going to change until they've left the building. Sucks but none of those players will suddenly improve, it's a dead weight we have to endure. How we got stuck with these B-grade seniors after the wash up, says a lot about our recent history...and one is a co-captain.
We won't truly have turned a corner until these guys are gone.

Wouldn't be so hard on Gross, he's going to be a good thang, just needs to build into the game and hit the gym - looks like a boy amongst men.
I'd like Hall to go the next step to get into the side - we need a built, bustling insider/extractor to offset Hewett and Harley; to ride shotgun.
He's racking up the stats in the Wafl now and can't be any worse than the seniors, and at least has a valid reason for being there.

Positive is we're in games for longer, but the dial has shifted, there's an underlying improvement cleverly disguised by poor skills, wrong choices and lack of talent.
There's the line of thinking that we'll come together after the bye or around the bye, well that's 5 games away against some in form sides. Then it doesn't get much better except for the Roos and another shot at Tigers at Optus. Yeo reckons he'll be back around the bye.

Aside from being a close contest with 15ish lead changes that was one of the worst quality games I've ever attended.

I don't think (from where I was sitting) that the umpires decided the result but I thought they were crap all day, both ways. Normally I'd reserve opinion on that until after I've seen the replay to get different angles but there's no way in F I'm watching that again unless I'm under the influence.

Saw the Trainor flop, was pee weak, so was the 50 he gave away before it, and I saw HReid flop a couple of times too. If the AFL was serious about staging and they would fine players on review for a first offence then suspend them if found guilty for a second time in a season and it would be sorted within weeks or months.

Same with drawing high contact to win a free. AFL said they'd stop paying frees to players who dropped their knees or shrugged their shoulders but they've failed dismally.

Thought Ryan looked really dangerous in the middle, great move.

What the heck is with Kelly? Is he over the hill or just in cruise control with his contract? Mini was right to drop him and should do it again.

Missed Allen today. That would have won you the game for sure IMO.

HReid is going to be a special player. I was really disappointed in some of the BS he was copping from Tiger fans today. He's a teenager ffs. I can see why he gets so frustrated. He actually has quite a thick skin for a young man.

Positive:
Reid and Ryan at times were huge through the midfield.

Negative:
So many of our seniors let us down today.
Duggan was horrifically bad with everything he did, Kelly was non-existent all game, Waterman missed very gettable goals and dropped two sensational kicks from Reid, Baker regularly sold teammates into trouble and he consistently makes poor and rushed decisions, Graham butchered the ball at every opportunity he had (kudos on his tackling game I guess), Flynn was tame and beaten in the ruck contests, Cole waxed and waned between the occasional good defensive effort and very poor defensive efforts, Owies (don't get me started) and Edwards was completely unaccountable and fumbly.
Some of the kids had their poor moments but that core of seniors above were just consistently and shockingly bad through-out and set the tone of mediocrity.
And their is a chance both of those positives ain’t on our list next year….
