Autopsy Round 9, 2025: Positives and Negatives vs Richmond

The next week we played St Kilda and Windholder was sent to him after half time and was allowed to scrap him with impunity. Harley responded with some ill disciplined acts, including getting suspended for a “dangerous” tackle on the basis of the little used potential to cause injury. But I digress
It is the only tackle under the current MRP guidelines ever to be upgraded under that rule.

At the start of the year, who’d have thought there’d be Richmond supporters offering condolences by round 9? Goes to show you can’t trust preseason hype in a rebuild.
Not ungrateful for the support just an observation.

Anyone that suggests trading him must not want to see a win for another couple of years. He's our most important play maker

Dermott cops a lot of unearned flack when he's mostly very calibrated with the position our team are currently in, and generally pays good kudos to what would otherwise go unnoticed
Would be interesting to hear Razor Ray's take on the 50m penalty against Harley and the free kicks he doesn't get. He should also look at Essendon's first 3 goals coming from 50m penalties. The 50m rule is crap, for minor infringements they should go back to 15m. The flogs at fox footy won't raise anything that is seen as pro West Coast.
The AFL should look at giving club captains the right to ask for a review of a free kick. Limit it to 1 per team per qtr.
The AFL will come up with some bullshit excuse that it will slow down the game. The 50m against Harley was a classic, he didn't touch the ball, the umpire guessed that he did. You would think one of the other 3 maggots would have seen it wasn't a 50m penalty. There is also nothing stopping one of the umpires from looking at the replays on the big screen and over ruling the idiot that got conned. They use videos for score reviews, why not free kicks ?
We have the technology why not use it.

Listened to Mini's press conference. He politely and diplomatically said the Harley 50 and Brock reversal were garbage. Handled it very well. Not a whiner but strong.
Plus the out of bounds insufficient and 3 holding the ball decisions we didnt get that i noted by half time .Its evident the feel good crowd influence of affirmation was strong and was worth a few goals

positives
Another competitive game.
We haven't had a twenty goal loss yet.
Our percentage.

negatives
The pile on Tom Gross is insane.
We lost because. Oowies couldn't convert a easy shot.
Brockman's brain fade cost us a goal.
Waterman's accuracy was horrible.
Flynn couldn't kick over his shadow to kick a goal
Negative media. They can find something negative no matter what.
We are terrible. We need a priority pick. We couldn't beat Richmond

Will not blame him in the slightest if he does leave. I probably would it I was him, don't think I'd handle this all very well. But jeez I hope he stays and sticks it up everyone's ass. Keeps being a ratbag on the field while he wins a premiership with us. **** this narrative they're trying to create.
Yeah this could backfire on the campaigners and I really hope it does.
It is pretty clear what the AFL media are trying to do to get him back, even before he was drafted.
I just hope Harley's rebellious side thinks, **** these pricks, Im doubling down and will show them all up by winning a flag/s with this mob.
Wouldn't blame him taking the easy way out, but his legacy as a player will be so much more if he sticks it out with West Coast and delivers a flag.

I think the AFL world would get a new respect for him if he toughed it out and stayed with us

Be so easy to go home, play for a competitive Vic side and get pumped up every 5 mins.

But to get us through this shit and back to success would see him rank amongst our greats.

He's gonna be on good coin no matter where he decides so it's not a money decision imo

The VFL world doesn't care about us.

They just want to fellate themselves whilst watching Harley play at the 'home of football's.

Part 2: Then the AFL come out with this absolute shit:

I didn't see the incident with the fan but it sounds even from the article like he was just pointing out someone being abusive etc. Really though their entire basis for the "Harleys antics once again in the spotlight" is the Ralphsmith 50m penalty. "Mired in controversy" the article says.

Mentions in the sub-heading that he put in a scintillating display on the field, then doesn't at any point in the article mention anything positive he does and instead picks apart this 50m penalty wording it like it cost us the game.

Sheezel gets the "Sheezy Ball" comment from Kane Cornes and because everyone (rightly) hates Cornes, North + everyone else in the AFL/media piles to Sheezel's defence and you wind up with Kane doing some lame backpedaling in his 'First Up' this week.

Everyone coming in in that situation with "he's a young player and you're going in too hard"

Would much rather "Sheezy Ball" than the Harley headlines week after week, from the conglomerate Victorian media blob (this article by Phoebe McWilliams for instance) who are far more powerful and harder to call out as a collective than Cornes by himself. Interestingly Cornes himself is always pretty positive about Harley in general.

I get that Harley doesn't help himself sometimes but honestly, a game like today showed the best of him, thought he played on the edge and had his regular scraps which showed he cared but didn't overstep the line or get bogged down in it all like he's done earlier this season. Yet the media narrative has characterised him almost irreversibly for opposition fans of the 17 other clubs, who rightfully don't actually watch many of our games.

If he does go back to Victoria they'll turn the narrative around immediately to "he's evolved in maturity, he's come a long way, he's learned to harness his aggression" and "he's now looked after better than he was at West Coast" when 100% it will just be that the negative spotlight is off him + he'll be 22-23 instead of 19-20.

Will not blame him in the slightest if he does leave. I probably would it I was him, don't think I'd handle this all very well. But jeez I hope he stays and sticks it up everyone's ass. Keeps being a ratbag on the field while he wins a premiership with us. **** this narrative they're trying to create.

"He's put the dark days at West Coast behind him now, he was just under so much pressure and scrutiny there and it clearly was making him unhappy. He's back at home in Victoria now where he belongs and you can see how much of a weight that's taken off him - he's playing better footy and is much happier in this environment."

100% guarantee it or I'll delete my account*.

*just like Dark Sharks did.

Watched that footage again of gross being run down.

2 Richmond players behind him along side 2 eagles players.
Neither eagle player bothered to pay a shephard whatsoever.
Just jogging behind

Eagles players were reid and Graham. Not kelly

If a shephard was laid he most probably kicks the goal from directly in front 40 out
