with the cost likely to be 2, if not 3 first round picks. no thanks
I'd do it for 2 if we can split between this year and next year as an option.

If you bring in a player like Reid, Merrett or Martin or Caldwell is off the chain.

Also, I get the sense that some are talking about Reid's season like this is the end product you recruit if you chase him. He's clearly unhappy. Yes, his attitude currently sucks, but he's also young and immature. He will be a star and he's definitely worth two R1s.

I love Butters' competitiveness, but I also fear how banged up he already is.

Rowell, I wouldn't bother. He'll be hunting a premiership.

Is one top end talent better than the idea of (potentially) three top end talents?

that is the question and I am in the group that thinks we continue hitting the draft. Very few top end trades eventuate into the ultimate success imho

I wouldn't be unhappy either way, however, if we split between this year and next;
2025: Reid + R1 + R2 (Sweid?) + R2 (El Achkar?)
2026: R2
2027: Bewick (R1 traded into 2028?)
2028: R1 + ...?

That looks like a brilliant 3 year draft haul to me. Trading in Reid, even in the context of the draftees we know let alone this list we currently have, looks so promising.

I'm less enamoured by the prospect of a draftee who can't step up.
Tsatas
Cox
Francis
I still have my doubts about Perkins and Parish.

We have the opportunity to get Reid and it's looking like we'll have a mid first round pick. I would definitely not be unhappy.

The one thing that could get me excited is Harley being a fwd and rotating into the midfield not being required to play him in the midfield because the team has no one else (WCE)

I would hate to be losing draft collateral earned when we have not done anything (see Essendon 2010 -2027)

That's the vision I have of him.
A new Dangerfield.

coming around on a butters trade.

Think you could do Redman, Gresham and pay enough salary to open up cap room for Port to chase a FA. Say NWM or Draper or whoever.

Essendon get a top player. Open up 2 list spots and it only costs 1 first or 1 2nd depending on the FA port get. That feels like a win.

Would require Caldwell to shift to HB in redmans role and then be 2nd rotation mid but he’d be really good there.

Delist/retire: Luol, Laverde, Davey Jr and Goldy.

Trade: Tsatas, Parish and Cox

Menzie and Shiel gone if two of the above can't be moved.
I would also like to see what, if anything, we can get for Gresham.

Menzie, I think will go regardless as well. ADW and possibly Unwin goes past him.

List spots are tight but wonder if we could even look to downgrade someone like a Nik Cox to the rookie list as another avenue if we don't trade any surprises out
Can we do this?

I'm fine with this if we can and no one else will take him on.

Bryan, Hobbs, tsatas will be approached by clubs. Happy for any to go for decent compensation.

Would love to trade parish although unlikely considering his contract.

Also want to see if we can get a first rounder from Langford.

With two academy kids on the way, happy to trade those two first rounders for butters or Reid. Maybe 1 plus a second for Rowell.
Bryan will stay I reckon.

Cox will get traded out before he accepts rookie list. There will be clubs willing to take a punt on him.

Im saying im not convinced theyre going to be more then just solid/ok

Kakos kicked 6 in 8 games as a very small forward, against relativily weak opponents. Hes far from shown hes going to be a top 50-100 player in the comp at some stage
His pressure has been terrific.
I would be interested in his score involvement averages as well.
Most blokes don’t become regular high performing afl players straight away.

Josh Weddle - I’d love him at the bombers and his hard running. Great bloke outside of footy too.

I hope he is the type of player we are looking at
Max Kondogiannis plays quite simarly and ironically goes to Carey.
I think he is a sleeper of this draft.

After watching last nights game it is clear we are lacking that hard at it cannonball type player.

If I was in charge of recruiting I would be on the phone to Butters management. I think he is exactly the type of player we need.

Stupid decision to waste all that draft capital on the player that’s a free agent next year imo

3.9 score involvements per game. Decent.

His pressure acts and tackles are right up. Shows he’s willing to do the work which I would argue is a far more important component.

We need a few hard at it no questions answered type players.

Mitch Robinson was a big factor in Brisbane's turnaround even though he was only ever B grade.

if we do target butters + reid, should we ask merrett about considering being traded to port to get butters over the line? gives merrett a chance of playing in finals in his prime
