Now that trade period is closed, here's where I'm at:

Out Of Contract:

1 year: Jaiden Hunter

Delist: Alastair Lord, Cian McBride, Will Snelling, James Stewart, Anthony Munkara, Rhett Montgomerie, Patrick Voss
Retire: Andrew Phillips, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti

4 list spots, 2-3 ND, 1-2 RD.

Pick trade: 31, 35, 61 and F4 (Pies) for 24, 84 and F3 (Suns). They get ~500 more points and by the time all the bids go through 84 will probably end up being in the late 50's/early 60's anyway.

Pick 11-13 (post bids): Darcy Wilson (Murray Bushrangers, 186/74, Midfielder/Forward)
Pick 29/30: Archer Reid (Gippsland Power, 203/94, Key Forward/Ruck)
Pick ~60: Will Brown (Sandringham Dragons, 194/86, Inside Midfielder)

So assuming we delist Snelling and Voss and recontract Hunter.

We have 34 on the main list and 3 on the rookie list? So 5 spots to fill (3 ND and 2 RD my preference although we could keep a rookie spot free as well and only go with 1 rookie spot.)

I have not included Cat B in my calculations.

We need to find at least one hard running midfielder and developing ruckman in those picks for list balance in my opinion.

We're currently in 5, out 7 as Hunter was taken because of Davey ACL. So 4, plus two Cat B spots open if we cut Snelling and Voss

I just counted the list and we have 36 signed players. If we then sign Hunter we will have 37. That is 5 spots right as we can have 42 plus 2 cat B?

He was wrong. Baldwin is a must upgrade so only 3 spots available if Snelling goes.

I think you miscounted.

After the draft/trade period last year we had 42 + 2 Cat B. Since then we've:

In: Hunter, McKay, Goldy, Gresham and Duursma
Out: Stewart, Phillips, Lord, Zerk-Thatcher, Montgomerie, D'Ambrosio, Walla (plus McBride and Munkara)

So two open spots with two Cat B as it stands.
