It is good that 2MP is back in form but given his history that is not a lock.
And we don’t have to bring someone in via the MSD.
It's certainly more of a lock than Draper.

I think it’s advantageous to use the 4 extra list spots we have to take fliers on guys and do some form of consolidation trade in the summer. That’s just good buisness

As far as Draper vs 2MP yeah it’s a crapshoot. 2MP might spud up in a few years.

But also we’re developing Gerryn and can always trade for another FF if neither work out.

I think the time to untangle this bottleneck is now. Hopefully we find a neutral or better outcome. I think trading/FA Draper seems the best way to do it

Yoda_ 's way to early to tell list management strategy for 2025 off season;

(Currently out of contract)

Delist; Alwyn Davey, Todd Goldstein (retire), Harry Jones, Jayden Laverde, Luamon Lual, Jye Menzie (rookie), Tom Edwards (rookie), **Jaxon Prior (rookie?)

Resigning;
Sam Draper (x 5 years), Ben Hobbs (x4 years), Zac Reid (x3+1 years), **Will Setterfield (1 year), **Dylan Shiel (1 year), Archer Day-Wicks (1 year), Saad El-Hawli (1 year), Vigo Visentini (1 year)

* these could go either way but how I see it playing out as of 21/05

31 senior list spots (up to 38 allowable). I think we do 6

Pick 2 (Melbournes first) - Willem Duursma, 191cm, utility, Gippsland Power
Pick 8 (Essendon's first) - Noah Hibbins - Hargreaves, 185cm, fwd utility, Dandenong Stingrays
Match a bid on Hussein El-Achkar (171cm, small fwd, NGA, Calder Cannons)
Pick 25 (St.Kilda's second) Sam Lewis, 186cm, inside mid, Dandenong Stingrays
Pick 26 (Essendon's second) Hunter Wright, 188cm, fwd utility, Bendigo Pioneers
Match a bid on Adam Sweid (175cm, small midfielder, NGA, Calder Cannons)

takes us to 37 senior listed players allows us up to 5 rookie listed players, Archer Day-Wicks, Saad El-Hawli, Vigo Visentini + potential mid season rookie listed players

The rookie list will be stacked with MSD picks which is why I think Prior and Edwards may actually be on thin ice. 50:50 calls will be tough on Setterfield, Shiel. Edwards, Laverde, Jones. Maybe we get a surprise trade request from a Hobbs or Tsatas that may help, maybe even Darcy Parish wants a fresh start. Draper may take up FA elsewhere.

Just some Victorian names to get out anyways. For mid season draft,

Alex Van Wyk, 20 year old 200cm ruck from West Adelaide is starting to become my number 1 preference. Old enough to combat mature rucks at AFL level but young enough to have upside.

Jonah Campigli, 22ish, 185cm, medium fwd, Sandringham. Has come into the VFL and done really well for the Zebras. Kicked a bag on the weekend to put his name up in lights.

Nick Williams, 20 year old, 190cm, utility defender, Southport, is doing a really good role at the high flying Sharks in the VFL. We need more run from defence and he could offer it from the get go.

Im not sure we go a small forward with Sweid/El-Achkar coming in at seasons end. Maybe a key forward that slips although we haven't had any success with those outside natural pathways (Edwards ACL, Baldwin foot/knee, Hunter knee) but doubtful
Well I was way off;

Edwards and Jones have resigned, Goldy reporting he wants to go on. That's 3 players I had as gone now going around again

As each player re-signs, makes me think we see a player, or two move on we have no idea we want to (Tsatas &/or Parish spring to mind)

At the moment we now have;

(re-sign)
Nick Bryan
Sam Draper
Ben Hobbs
Zach Reid
(1 of) Dylan Shiel / Will Setterfield

(Rookie) Vigo Visentini
(Cat~B rookie) Jayden Nguyễn

(delist/retire)
Alwyn Davey Jnr
Todd Goldstein
Jayden Laverde
Luamon Lual
(1 of) Dylan Shiel / Will Setterfield

(Rookie) Saad El~Hawli
(Rookie) Jye Menzie
(Rookie) Jaxon Prior

We ran with 42 on the main + rookie list (and 1/2 Cat B rookie) which allows us 2 extra selections than delistings (maximum 44)

I still think the two NGA kids will fall further than most think barring some real movement at the championships. Gut feel and some evidence ive seen. El-Achkar the one who may slip in before our second rounders that may suck up points.

I think we see a blindside trade from a guy like Parish or Tsatas, someone we thought no way. Open up list places as well

If they ticked off on Edwards, You wouldn't think SEH is in any danger.

Bryan, Hobbs, tsatas will be approached by clubs. Happy for any to go for decent compensation.

Would love to trade parish although unlikely considering his contract.

Also want to see if we can get a first rounder from Langford.

With two academy kids on the way, happy to trade those two first rounders for butters or Reid. Maybe 1 plus a second for Rowell.

This time last year no one was predicting we would be moving Stringer on and we had some concerns about limited draft picks and how many players we would actually be bringing in. A lot will depend on how well the young blokes come on and what we get from the MSD which is normal.

Some things that are not out of the realms of possibility in my opinion but not certain to even maybe happen. Some stuff based on speculation I have heard here and there but not take it to the bank stuff.

If the club and Parish wanted to part ways a deal would get done. There are clubs that would take him on if we payed some of his contract.

Bryan staying will depend on the deal we offer. Other clubs still have interest. If we low ball him he will go.

Hobbs has clubs monitoring him again this year but personally I do not seeing him going if he is in the side every week. I could entertain a trade if Johnson and Day-Wicks are looking like playing more of a role next year. Unwin having a good back end to the season would also cover. We can not trade him out if we do not have the competitive players to replace him.

Tsatas could want out and we may decide we have taken him as far as we can. Will be more in the cuts your losses box and take what you can get.

I hear that 4 years is likely to be what Draper ends up with but a bit less money. At this stage most doing the snooping around think he is staying.

Setterfield will most likely be on hold again until the midfield picture is clear. Will get another year if a couple of the others go.

Shiel has mentioned he wants to stay but it appears there is not a lot happening either way at this stage. Has a couple of clubs watching his form. Would have to finish the year in good form for them to stay interested.

I think Sheil and Setterfield both stay (unless Sheil wants to leave to chase a flag) both are good depth players who won’t cost the world. Better to keep them than not.

Assuming we add 4 MSD guys to the list I think the goal for the first time in a long time will be talent consolidation. Trying to upgrade guys currently on the list into top players.

Jackson, butters and Reid are some of the top names this offseason and I’d imagine we’d be into all
Of them.

I could see Draper, Bryan, Gresham, Guelfi, Redman, Cox maybe Parish all being moved

Setters is good depth, hopefully someone comes for Shiel for free.

I don't think Goldstein is a lock to keep because he has said he wants to play on. He could still be cooked by the end of the season. We could be cold on him.

I wouldn't feel blindsided by either of Parish or Tsatas requesting a trade, especially Tsatas, but I don't think Parish improves us.

If Sweid and El Achkar keep performing well, are we likely to trade our second rounders into 2026 like we did with Kako?

With the change in bidding for NGA talent, can you still do this as easily as past years? Would be wise if we could, but I’d think it’s more likely we either have to keep them to hit the points needed.

All depends where they fall. If Sweid and Al-Achkar fall late first round or early second round then we'd have to keep, more likely they go later in the second or perhaps even third and we'd be better to move one or both picks back.

Isn’t the idea to take your pick before your NGA’s?

i’m off the harley train personally, he’s a good player but he’s been fairly ordinary so far this season, built for the big games but hasn’t done anything special.

i’d be chasing butters, personally. he’s slick, speedy and a lead by example type player

Delist/retire: Luol, Laverde, Davey Jr and Goldy.

Trade: Tsatas, Parish and Cox

Menzie and Shiel gone if two of the above can't be moved.
Forgot about Cox. Trade.

I'd keep Laverde unless there's a better free agent who can slot in. Rids is getting to the point of being fragile, Reid's body is not to be trusted yet and Hayes has a long road back.

Under suffrance, I'd keep Menzie, unless one of Unwin or El Achkar can go straight into the ones.

Guelfi is a question mark. Maybe keep given he has played multiple positions and is a solid contributor.
