We're not under performing. That perspective only exists because we've generally over performed and now we're going through a dip.

you think a club who's been rebuilding since 2011 and has played in two final series... isn't under performing? cmon.

this is a club who just lost to one of the worst performed clubs since Fitzroy!!!!!

I think that 14 years ago has little relevance and prefer to focus on the issues at hand. The alternative is to quit any interest in footy all together.

As a Richmond supporter who went through decades of being bog ordinary I feel your pain. There is one tried and true coaching formula that has worked and appears to be the way to go. Never take on recycled coaches. Ross has not been able to win a flag in his tenures at other clubs, So why take him again? If you follow the last ten years as an example then you have:

2016 - Bulldogs premiers coach (Beveridge) had been at hawthorn on the coaching staff. A successful club.

2017 - Richmond coach (Hardwick)as above

2018 - West Coast coach(Simpson) as above

2019 & 2020 - Richmond (Hardwick) as above

2021 - Melbourne (Goodwin) was working under Paul Roos as a succession plan coach. Roos was a premiership coach.

2022 - Geelong (Scott) walked into a side year one that had been built by Bomber Thompson. The odd one out. But Bomber was a premiership winner.

2023 - Collingwood (McCrae) had been at Richmond. A successful club.

2024 - Brisbane (Fagan) was also part of the successful Hawthorn coaching brigade.

2025 - 3 of the leading contenders are Collingwood, Brisbane and Hawthorn. All have worked under successful coaches. Sam Mitchell was under Adam Simpson at West Coast when they won in 2018.
Steer clear of failed or recycled coaches. Never take on a player or coach that has not achieved the ultimate success. If the Saints follow this procedure they will have more of a chance to get success. Move one, get rid of Ross.

I think RTB will be at the club for sometime, if he can cope with having an inexperienced under performing list for the next couple of years.

If Barratt stays on as President then the reins will be passed onto Enright.

What a crock of shit. Failed coach. Or did you mean extraordinarily unlucky coach?

Like saying Mark Blake is better than Plugger because he has a premiership. Jason Castagna has 3 ffs.🤣

Maybe we should be courting Simon Goodwin.

Unlucky coach means failed. Call it what U want. I wasn’t talking players.
Subject was coaches.

So you think either way an unlucky/failed coach the calibre of Lyon is no good and we should get rid of him?

I brought up players because it’s the same theory and it’s equally as crap.

ok lets take the weekends game in isolation. you can't suggest thats a side over performing.

thats so far below the standard of the list its not funny.

Yes I think he’s failed. Success breeds success and your clubs coach needs to be able to give that belief to his players. I put 10 years in front of you as an example. Players are a different thing altogether. It’s the leadership. Like it or not there is only one successful coach each year. Ross has had a fair go at it but has not succeeded.

No you shouldn’t go after Goodwin because he’d be recycled.

Listening to anything a Tigers fan has to say on success is like taking financial advice from the bogan who wins the lottery. Got lucky with a generational talent and won a few, good on ya.

Absolutely. Granted l haven't bothered to watch it but from the reactions on here l don't think l need to. We did poorly against the Scum as well.
Thing is, l see enough quantity and severity of extenuating circumstances that I can quell the venom for the time being. Not saying it's acceptable, but I'd imagine the club don't think it's acceptable either and they're doing some soul searching.

I think our season's very likely cooked, probably along with a few senior players that we'd have expected to be in their prime right about now.
It's gonna be a tough few weeks ahead for all saints people.

So if everything else afterwards stayed the exact same but a ball bounced the other way, he would be a good coach because success? But he's a failure because of something completely out of his control?

That doesnt make any sense.
I understand your point, however, as I pointed out in my original post, the most recent winning formula for over the last ten years has been to appoint a young assistant coach with experience in a premiership winning environment. Not recycled coaches, which is what RTB is. They bring a recent winning attitude with them and add there own perceived improvements on top.

except that your theory is flawed, Lyon worked under Walls (3 as player 1 as coach), Roo's won one (2005) has made 3 GF's at 2 different clubs, and unlucky more than any other factor not to snag one.

One could argue other factors are more pertinant
not to discount their achievements but maybe the broken system has as much to do with it

Bevo fluked one from 7th with the help of F/S
WC big club and priority picks
Richmond had priority picks
Melbourne AFL funding, AFL intervention and COVID, Priority Picks, even tho not playing, certainly gave them value to get players
Geelong, handy F/S and lots and lots of rumored back door deals on top of the Dank connection
Pies, again F/S and NGA
Brisbane the only one without clear assistance but the $5m more than any other club (bar CGS) a year sure helps and direct AFL help to get admin sorted after their go home 5

How'd Bolton work out for Carlton?

What priority picks did Richmond & WC have? Also your going back a long way to substantiate your argument. I said the formula for the last 10 years. I'll give you Bolton, however, Carlton were not going to allow Bolton to build a list. They were in the business of buying premierships.
