Actually yes it was a free kick and Pearce will get some sort of follow up mention in the match review - took his eyes of it at the last minute and was (unlucky) to hit the oppo player high and in the head. No intent and not weeks, but it did have severe impact and he could have stayed locked on the ball but didn't

There was no bump alex was going for the mark, port player made the contact to pearce. Didn't look like any high contact anyway.

You’re completely right and Pearce didn’t do anything wrong at all, but he’ll still get 3 weeks because the AFL don’t have a clue how to adjudicate these things.

Gonna be tough for us to run this one out given how winged Ryan and Bolton are and with Simpson already out. Need supreme efforts from the likes of Wags, Freddy, Switta and Amiss - plus Chapman needs to just be smarter in his decisions at the contested ball. Would be nice if Sharp could get closer to his man when Port have the ball too.

Pretty hard to argue this was anything other than careless/medium. If the other player subsequently fails the concussion test it could be upgraded to high impact.

I just watched the Pearce replay 5 times. He's clearly contesting the mark and to be honest he's only taken evasive action at the last second because he's effectively about to be tunnelled

Pearce aside I must say that I am thoroughly whelmed by this contest. Not really much to take from it outside of some frustrating defensive lapses (one on one we suck) and some simple and effective wet weather moves.

Johnson and Erasmus haven't looked too bad in the middle.
