Are they just talking about the default position, not the conclusion once the facts are known?

They are talking about the default position, but I am concerned that for many outlets it will remain the permanent position. Apparently, my post was too political and is being removed lol.

So how is he 'detested by the majority of the supporter base' - your words Michael!

BTW he was pictured in the rooms after the Collingwood game which was in Melbourne!

Also in the rooms at Gather Round in Adelaide!

I see it as pretty basic journalism to come in to any story with a neutral view, but many outlets throw that away chasing clicks.

Can we get a welfare check on El Presidente?
Agree 💯. It's like Priestley's in the witness protection program.
Realise AFL club President's don't get paid.
Personally was never a massive fan of Sayers. However, credit where it's due. He was visible (at the end, to his detriment with *gate).
Appeared to interact and engage with members and fans and genuinely loved the club.
The club's giving the impression of discontentment and potential friction on and off field. Having a seemingly invisible club President, who ALSO lives in Sydney, is in IMO giving pause for potential concern.

MLG did great things for us off-field but on-field was a complete disaster.

Sayers clearly had flaws, but he was a step in the right direction because he was very focused on football performance.

Priestly so far is giving me worse vibes than MLG.

He seems like he's very secure with how he's travelling because we are performing well in off-field metrics, while putting football performance into it's own silo thereby absolving himself of any blame for poor results.

I want to see more urgency and a singular focus on the performance of our AFL team from him. Whether he wants the responsibility or not, he is the person who sets the tone for the rest of the club and he needs to lift his game.

Yeah but but he watched us at Princes Park way back in the 70s as a kid

It doesn’t come across well for El Presidente when they frame it as “a rare interview.”
The positive was that he didn't say that "Voss had the total backing of the Board" because everyone knows what that means

as for rare interview - I dont know of any Presidents that speak much to the press eg Geelong Pres I cant remember ever having spoken to the press - I'll ask him next time we have a round of golf.

I’m not sure how common it is for club presidents to engage regularly with the media, but in my opinion given everything the club and its supporters have been through following Luke Sayers’ controversial exit, it feels like a missed opportunity to take a different approach.

I would have expected the PR strategy to include putting a more regular, visible face to the leadership and fostering a more connected, integrated relationship with members and the broader community (particularly as he’s based in Sydney and somewhat removed from the day-to-day).

Again, probably outside of the norm, but with Brian Cook on his way out and Wright yet to take the reigns (if that’s to be believed) would be nice to hear from the new president more consistently.

there's a perception with fans that the club is lost and leaderless, on and off field. they have (had?) an opportunity to make conection with the fans but this seems too little, too late after six weeks of silence.

Would be interesting to track how involved Cripps has been in media in the past couple of months.

Personally I don't want to hear from our Prez publicly too often, if we do it's normally associated with a shit storm. Just steer the ship in the right direction in the background please. Ditto the CEO. We saw a targeted interview by Cook last year (or was it the year before?) when Voss was under siege and he stated that Voss was contracted until 2026 and we would honour it.

How happy is Wright?

It’s the same face Eddie McGuire made after Chris Judd won his second Brownlow medal and our supporters still laugh about. It also happened in the same year Collingwood won the flag and we finished 8th.

That’s how far our club have fallen.

I thought that club interview was pretty good. What more do you want him to say?

I think the boards appointment of Wright as CEO at the time that he was appointed was a great decision from the board. they have seen that the rebuild hasn’t gone to script, the game has changed significantly from 2015 when the list strategy was kicked off and they’ve appointed a football CEO with a football focus. The club seems to be on a stable footing in terms of non football revenue (CIB, college of sport, new imaging centre etc) and the board has appointed a football CEO not a commercial CEO. That’s good management from my point of view.

Yes we haven’t had the on field success that we want but I’m not sure you can blame the board or the president for that when the base for success is there, our issues on field are skill and connection inside 50. The pres has this week highlighted that very fact in the press and stated that they’re giving Voss and his coaching staff the second half of the year to address it. You can bet if it’s not addressed … (and the incoming CeO knows exactly what he’s looking for in this respect and will report it accordingly to the board) that Voss will be gone and even bigger changes will be afoot.

Agree BB. Nailed it all.

CH7 last night ...

Rare interview ….the guy has only been in the job 3 months and really how many interviews do we want hear from Presidents who can only provide high level strategic responses.

I want to hear from our football leadership like Voss, Heads of Football, Development and Recruitment about what they’ve done and are going to do to improve our on-field performances that have been under their direct control over the past 4 years.

We’re in strife if we’re relying on a president to give more interviews to rectify our poor recruitment, development, antiquated game plan and lack of game day strategies.
