I think Murphy is a slightly below-average pressure forward at AFL level. Several people on this board seem to believe he's the worst player in the AFL, worst player in the club's history, etc. I disagree with that but don't really mind people holding that view. I also don't know how many times I can repeat my basic point: for his many flaws, I think he'll produce better output as the 22nd player tonight than the mooted alternatives. If we disagree on that, then we've hit a fundamental (but hopefully cordial) impasse.
Yep we disagree

It's probably a fair assessment, however why do we even have this position, given the other talent we have?

Like, they could save a TON of money and coaching effort (cos I won't listen to nobody) by employing me to be a significantly below average pressure forward, which is only a couple of notches down from what we have now. That money could be spent on wigs, or a hair transplant for Nicks.

So it's win win.

Actually I won't do it for less than what Murphy's getting. This might put the kibosh on the deal.

You need a hell of a lot of defensive forward pressure to make a three-tall scheme work in the modern game. Would I prefer a player better than Murphy was the first guy off the bench when one of our smalls/mediums is out? Sure. But I live in this reality. At least we've already moved past him as a best-22 guy.

So are we gonna win this thing tonight or what?

My recollection is we always play crappy in Tasmanian Devil land
Latest matches we have Played in Tassie - Its a trend. Same Margins against same teams.

27/4/2024 - Beat North Melbourne by 57 at Hobart
6/4/2023 - Beat Hawthorn by 3 at Launceston
26/6/2022 - Beat North Melbourne by 57 at Hobart (same margin as 2024)
25/4/2021 - Lost to Hawthorn by 3 at Launceston

I think we will win this one.
We have been to Tassie that many times now, I don't think it holds too many fears for us.

And our team is a lot stronger than the last time we played them.
We are playing well, Hawks not so much

I didn't think we were going to win regardless of Murphy's inclusion. And I don't think he will make a difference either way. Might even be sub
If we are rewarding sanfl form he's been in our best 3 pretty much every game. But on that basis Edwards and dowling should be in the frame as well and there is more to be gained from picking them.

Well, Crows have played Hawks at UTAS in 2021, when a slender TT debuted and kicked 5 and they came from behind to beat us by 3. Next game was in 2023 and Fog kicked a late goal from an acute angle and we beat them by 3.
Nice symmetry.
The 2025 team, even with Murhpy, is far superior to the 2023 and 2021 teams.
Over in the Hawks board, they think their paltry wins aganst Carlton (26) and Essendon (20) were somehow more impressive than our 10 goal wins against the same teams. The also beat Swans by 20, Crows, 90.

They've lost 3 of their last 4 games, beating a half asleep Doggies last week and suddenly, they think they're world beaters.
They were thrashed by the Pies and Lions. Their only top 8 win is against GWS.

Launceston will be dry tonight, not much wind and about 5 degrees at the start of the match.
It's a bit of a 50/50 game.
The playing surface is very good.

We're 2-3 in our last 5 matchups against the Hawks, but historically they've had our number where we're 5-15 in our last 20 matchups.
Yeah that historical stat is a little irrelevant in many ways through. I mean, 20 matches goes back to 2010, and Hawthorn had a dynasty in that period. To put that into perspective, Tex was a 2nd year player, Simon Goodwin was still playing and Sid Draper was turning 4.

For me the 2-3 is 10x more relevant, and given our jump this year, that stat isn't much to go on either.

I wonder if there'd be a benefit to not using the sub in cold temperatures like tonight's game? (injuries permitting)
It'll be around 5 degrees with little breeze, just need to stay on the bike or sidelines.
I live here but can't get to the game....
