How good are the Cats? Are they premiership level? or a shade just below? They've had losses to St.Kilda, Carlton, Giants and Lions x 2. On the flip side they've beaten us, Hawks, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Dogs and Fremantle teams who are in the 8 or in 9th spot. They're best is very good but they are gettable and have had two losses on a ground which was their fortress. They really got showed up badly last night by a premiership team who also took their spot on the ladder. The Lions have their measure especially after last year's Prelim..I don't see the Cats being able to sustain what the Lions bring to the table as two of the games the Lions were also well behind.

Are Geelong true contenders in 2025 or are they a shade behind the Pies and the Lions?

Look, hard to probably take me seriously being an obvious Geelong supporter but I think their best is good enough - most teams in the 8 have had at least one shocker this year, last night was unusual - even when comparing previous losses throughout the year. We may not go the whole way, but defs contenders

I dont think anyone has a level Collingwood has this year to be honest but Geelong and Brisbane (maybe Dogs if they pull a finger out) are probably the only other teams I can see being consistent and finals hardened enough to pull something out when the whips are cracking. So yes, contenders, just not Pies level contenders

Having said all that, the Pacers are one win away in the NBA from one of the greatest post season runs in history so anything is possible.

They’re good enough to be in the hunt. Collingwood has been the most consistent team and their two losses have come against teams that are ranked as being contenders (Giants and Cats). Cats, Lions, Crows have all been good but they have dropped at least one game against a crap or middling team.

So you're saying that there's a chance the Dockers might win it, Snuff? 😀

Nitpicking but I can't have Crows in there with their record against actual.good teams. Making up numbers with Hawks, Freo, Suns and Giants. Id have Hawks ahead of them as contenders tbh.

Head to head results against other finalists, as a finals predictor, are scarcely better than tossing a coin.

I can extend it out I suppose, young team, first time playing finals in a while AND poor results so far against good teams. I dont see why Crows should be rated contending over the other teams mentioned on current evidence.

I posted recently on the performance of teams that played finals but didn't play finals the previous year. Performance is slightly ahead of average. Length of time since they played finals doesn't seem to be a factor, although data is limited for very long breaks.

Good enough to beat the Pies on their home ground
All teams lose. You've lost 5 including two to lowly Carlton and St.kilda and got pantsed on your home deck to Brisbane. The real contender.

Lol.

They have an easy run home but get the feeling they'll drop a few they should win. Any side that loses to both Carlton and St Kilda has to be questioned. Top 2 is no guarantee.

I'll say they make top 4 due to their easy run home and lose in straight sets.
