Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

he's barely in the best 22....
He's played one VFL game in 3 years. You mightn't like him but he's entrenched in the side.

He is still developing his game and that should be focus for the next year or two. We have seen a marked increase in his output over the past 4 or 5 weeks.

It's not though. Cripps is everyone's friend. Need a hard nosed captain. I'd love Newman to do it for a couple of years. Till another is ready.

How would you know though? Thats purely your perception. I think Cripps is plenty capable of having tough conversations. Don't need to come across as a hard ass to be a good captain.

How on earth is he overrated? Half the fans call his move to the backline a failure. Then a chunk still call him too scrawny and another say he's slow.

Nobody calls him a gun.

What he is is an exceptionally hard worker, did not buy into the toxic attitude last week, plays hard and trains harder. Runs and runs and has an exceedingly level head.

And for what it's worth. I watched him live outsprint Chad Warner 3 sprints in a row vs the swans. He's not slow. He's just always running.

Does need to speed up his ball drop and decision making but there are certain captain qualities about him. Especially culturally
The reasoning is solid, plenty of captains around and in the past who were just good honest players.

It’s almost impossible to know what happens behind closed doors, as a captains job imo is mostly off field.

Players can be all of those things above and still be a poor choice, above all else the captain needs to be respected and trusted by the players, without this, no one follows or listens.

As supporters all we can do is speculate based on results. On results, Cripps has been a disaster of a captain and I think his many selfish highlights illustrate a potential reason why that would be. Consciously or not, he puts himself ahead of the team. Results speak for themselves: 2 brownlows and 2 finals wins.

Crippa, one more year, then Ollie will be ready.

Ollie's game isn't sound enough yet for him to be taking on that mantle.

For me, it's JSOS all the way through.

He's not one of the lads, he's fiercely competitive, he brooks no shit from teammates or opposition, he's coming into his absolute peak as a player, he understands the game, his skills are solid if unspectacular while his endeavour is unquestionable. He's also Carlton all through.

He'll also be 28 at year's end, which in my view makes him a perfect candidate for the stage we're at as a club.

He can bridge the gap between the old and the new generation. Give him the captaincy for 3-4 years, focus on a cultural shift at the club with him setting standards and expectations. By the time he's 31-32 his body may be getting close to telling him it's time, so affords a perfect opportunity to then hand the reins over to someone like Ollie or Jagga once they've had more time to establish themselves.

Cripps' issue as captain isn't that he's selfish, it's that he doesn't trust his teammates

nothing to do whether i like him or not. Irrelevant.

But I question whether he has the ability, ball use and decision making, to play the HB role to good or great effect.

And I've seen little this year that swings the needle frankly.

That he can't stick a tackle adds to my concerns....

He's a winger or nothing imo.

p.s. he's 21 now.

And interesting that's he's allowed to 'develop' in the senior where others aren't?

Saad retirement rumours not true. Signed for next year and has plans to play longer.
Source: the man himself

Saad's either close to the end or being asked to play a game style on which he can't deliver.

Club needs to start having conversations that underperforming players will be in the 2's next year.

Montagna's Unreliable 5 (First Crack last night) - recruited players who aren't performing to the expected levels.

Saad
McGovern
Williams
Acres
Cerra

I'd also add Charlie though as a Carlton developed player who this year has become unreliable.

That’s quite the accusation.
Do you have any proof that Hinkley expressly told any of his players to lie to medicos and play whilst suffering from concussion?

A player who was about 20yo at the time (has since requested a trade and playing elsewhere), was made to play with a fractured shoulder blade.

He tried to protest multiple times and was called a ‘weak campaigner’ by the man himself.

I have no proof besides from the player saying it himself directly to me.

Yeah we do but its a pretty unintelligent way to look at things.

There are alot of inputs that influence how well you go as a football club. Captaincy is just one (and not a major one I suspect). Just because youre going badly doesnt mean all your inputs are bad. And if youre going well it doesnt mean theyre all good.

Alot of supporters seem to think because we arent doing well everything and everyone in key positions at the club must be rubbish.

I think its quite possible that our dual brownlow medalist, 5 time best and fairest winning, captain who has been lauded for his leadership on several occasions isn't our biggest problem.

For all we know without Cripps and his leadership we dont make any finals.

Also, if Cripps was in any way a selfish player he would have left us a long time ago. He tries to put the team on his back at times. When it comes off its inspirational leadership. When it doesnt hes selfish. 🤣
