I think our list building has been excellent and will show real fruit in the next few years. We have brought players in whilst keep FRDPs and getting late bargains--Owens, Windy, Garcia, Dodson, Keeler and Box to name a few.

We keep Nas, bring in Aleer, bring in TDK, and likely someone else--we will shoot up the ladder next year. This is the most excited I've been about a St Kilda list since the early to mid 2000s (2009 and 2010 team being the fruit of that earlier list building).

If people on here can't see it, you will at least be in for a pleasant surprise.

We all live in hope but we've been through these periods enough to know that promise doesn't always lead anywhere. It's the biggest and best group of kids we've had for years but we won't know how good for 5 years.

Nas is a genuine top level elite AFL player. The rest are promising. Max Hall probably the only other that could genuinely be called top level other than him and he's probably got to do it for longer to bank his talent.

The only two young players we have on our list that I am bullish about ever achieving an AA blazer are Nas and Hall and neither of them are signed up. Grim stuff.
Not as grim as your posting the last 6 months.

Pou, Tauru, Wilson, Garcia, even someone like Hastie has the upside to push for AA.
Yet to see Dodson but has all the attributes.

This extremely negative mindset is no way to live.

Max played 18, 20 & 22 games in the 3 years leading into the contract extension. It it was a straight 4 yr deal no one would be complaining… once again, its a half & half deal just like Mac Andrew’s 10 yr contract.

If I’ve got the choice of Dow or Dunstan kicking for my life, I know who I’m choosing.

I’d be surprised if Hill’s deal is 3 years guaranteed. We didn’t get any real detail when it was announced but signing a 32 yr old to a locked in 3 year contract would be unlikely.

He extended in October last year after playing 11 games. Started last with a knee injury and ended his season early with another one.

Gives you some thing to do. You're going to have to be extra positive to send good vibes all the way to Victoria. Manifest like a mofo little buddy.

People are giving you shit for this but he does have a 39.4% loss rate this season so I can't imagine your number is far off. Fourth worst in the comp for key backs who have played a minimum of ten games this year.
Yep... lost 0/1 in 2023, 5/10 in 2024 and 13/33 in 2025 = 18/44 or 41%. for players 196cm+ with 40+ def 1v1 contests it is the highest on record. It's all there in the AFL app or Wheelo or wherever if anyone wants to go through every other player and add them all up

In 1v1s he sits at around a 53.8% loss. Leek Aleer just below him with 57.1% loss. Vlastuin and Siciliy both in the 60% loss range. Strangely Jimmy Webster has a 100% loss rate in 1v1s. Hammer averages 2.6 a game defensive 1v1s Battle at 3. Aleer averaging 1.4 1v1s.

From Wheelo.
you have the filter on last 5 games only, so much variance. I am talking about over the course of a career. I don't think Jimmy would have lasted 14 years in the system with a 100% 1v1 loss rate

I would be happy if we fired SOS

1. Key contracts not signed. Don't care at all if Wang leaves but Hall, Heath and Windhager not signed is a joke. We should also be pushing to extend Taurus contract.
2. Chasing TDK AND Aleer
3. His Carlton hard on is not in the clubs best interests
4. His list building resume is mediocre
5. Rumors of key players up for trade talk

Please correct me if i am mistaken.

I’d say achieving absolutely nothing leans more toward criticism than it does toward praise but I also don’t really care. Every supporter base thinks they’ve either got a good list or a developing list. We’re not objective at all.

I got all ****ing hot and bothered on potential at the back end of last year so I’m gonna keep my powder dry this year.

I can see the vision but I’m not getting excited until it does something.
“Achieving absolutely nothing”

List builds aren’t these linear progressions from shit to winning flags.

When he came in we knew the state of play with the list (second oldest) and salary cap.

We are the third youngest now and we should classify ourselves as Richie rich, rich when it comes to cap space.

They are both big ticks.

What we do this off season is when the magnifying glass should be applied as we start to use our cap space.

Not for what I saw yesterday
Ok getting a list of players wanting to come to us but we reneged
Caldwell
Xerri
Kemp
Anderson ( thanks gringo forgot about him)
Getting some empirical evidence now we may be hard to deal with.
We whinge about not getting players we go for, but which of the above would not have made us better?
so glad we reneged on this campaigner, way too much figjam for the jar

Zac Jones doesn't look like a superstar at Sandy. He's the same as he is in the AFL an uneven erratic quick player who sometimes looks amazing and gets good numbers sometimes.

Easier to win ball than score at VFL level too. Max Hall didn't look that amazing at VFL level either. Would be our best player over the last 5 weeks or so.

Riley Bonner is the highest rated player in the VFL this season so I know what you are saying but it's one of those partly true statements.

Plenty make the transition over. Wilkie is a state league player who moved over. Maybe we should have bought back Tom Highmore for Battle.

Ben Paton is in that too good for VFL, not quite good enough to be best 22 in an AFL side zone now. Probably never recovered from his leg break and lost his momentum.
Yeah I'm not suggesting it isn't possible to pull VFL talent across, there is just way more hits than misses.

Well lucky for us, you didn't even see that Boxshall played last week - by selecting him as an 'in' for this week in the matchday thread.

So maybe your judgement on players' future prospects isn't great ;)

Max King

King, Caminiti, Sharman, Owens, Keeler is on paper a pretty good set of attacking young talls

Just unfortunate we didn't get to see it this year with King injured and Doug/Cordy both injured meaning Caminiti has to play back
Could we all be good lil boys and girls this Christmas and ask Santa for an injury-free list next year? 🎄

3 cm and 10 kilograms. Don't know what him being 30 is an issue.

I would have Hammer forward and then we have some flexibility as well.
I don't see Caminiti as a back as much as a forward. One of the small bonuses of this dire season is having Hammer learn his craft down back, can really help his development.
I fully believe we have missed the player that can handle the gorilla's and contest it to ground. Hammer. Wilkie, Web etc have tried hard but we are just undermanned.
Personally would have Howard before Caminiti down back.
yeah if we were playing a final tomorrow dougal definitely gets the nod over cama, but cama has looked good, coming on nicely. But we're gonna be chock full of KPDs if aleer comes over, so I really hope we see tauru as a long term forward, and look to play him there in 2026. That gives us doogs, camaniti, wilkie, aleer as our tall KPDs.

caminiti might be a serviceable forward one day if it comes to that, but I think he's a better KPD, he reads the flight well and his intercept marking has been promising

What's wrong with 2 and 5?
No.1 is ongoing
Some merit in 3 and 4.

Firstly I’m not the coach, nor the list manager, it’s not incumbent upon me to find the solutions and even if I did they would be meaningless.

Secondly this is the issue. People just preach patience forever. Well we can get mad but that won’t fix anything, be patient.

I’m actually in for giving Ross his allotted time and letting him cook away (my commentary on 2025 is actually that it is what it is, I’m neither mad nor particularly optimistic about it) but my point is that people always have an out.

If 2026 goes to shit there will be the “injuries and a bad draw” crew. Same in 27 and so on. At what point do THEY say “actually nah this is ****ing shit”.

All makes sense but I just don't understand what it means to say "actually nah this is ****ing shit". Like do they quit supporting the club or microwave their membership or something?

But also - list builds take as long as they take. You try to draft good players and have a foundation for a strong team. If drafting works out (because players get good) then you can start topping up to fill gaps. If they don't work out then obviously you have to keep drafting.

The strategy isn't actually rocket science, and there aren't really any short cuts. You can try to get smart by poaching players from other clubs to accelerate the build but that's high risk.

Blake Acres not playing again this week, two years left on his contract and could be gettable for a fourth club

Was reported by Tom Morris before on the news.

Exactly success isn't linear but there are green shoots now

I'm all broken up about Bombers fans' pain.

Don't care if Wanganeen-Milera, our best player, leaves but need 1 gamer Max Heath to be signed or you'll storm Moorabbin?

You are mistaken with this take.
