Now that it looks likely that even the Suns won't find a way to miss finals, hoping for the Bulldogs to miss while also keeping their huge percentage because it will be very funny.

I am all for results that ensure the Dogs don't make the 8.

They worry me even though we beat them twice.
Funny I'd probably prefer to play them over Freo, Hawthorn or the Suns. The dogs defence I dont think can stack up in finals

Isn't the usual complaint in finals having too much time off?

As the Roar Deal mentioned, it’d be more an issue if we’ve got one or more players with concussion in Round 24. They would miss our first final if we are playing on the Thursday or Friday night with the 12 day rule.

We're assuming this wouldn't apply to our opponent?

Last years elimination finals were Friday and Sunday and the Qualifying Finals were Thursday and Saturday. They may be able to modify the first week of finals to ensure we’re not affected by the concussion protocol, but how often do the AFL do us a favour on fixturing?

Strong mail that our Round 24 game vs Hawks will be Sunday night. 😥
They have this theory of trying to save decider games until as late in the weekend as possible. Sadly with the issues around the Ess/Suns games we are likely locked in to a Sunday game as much as we wouldnt want it

What? Last year's elimination finals were on Friday night and Saturday night. There hasn't been a Sunday final for many years.

I happen to know Andrew Dillon is often snooping around on this thread.

Andrew, 3:15pm Sunday would be just dandy thankyou please.

Sorry that’s my bad, both games were on Saturday rather than Saturday/Sunday. But the point remains- if we are playing on the Thursday or Friday night in a Qualifying or Elimination final- if there’s a concussion and we’re scheduled to play on these nights - the said concussed player would miss.

Yeah it's a fair point. Obviously Gold Coast will be in the same boat with their match against Essendon - any of their affected players will miss their first final regardless of when it is scheduled.

I think as a general rule, assuming all the venues are available, 2 v 3 is on the Thursday, 6 v 7 is on the Friday, with the other 2 finals on the Saturday.

With the crossover, this means that should the minor premier win their Qualifying Final, they earn the benefit of playing their home Preliminary Final on the Friday night, with all other teams getting (at worst) 7 day breaks for the duration of the finals series.

It's confirmed to be on Sunday night via caro on Agenda Setters.
Can't imagine we'll pack the Gabba out for that unfortunately.

On the flipside, we'll know as well as possible what is required of us to qualify wherever for the finals. Whereas if we were playing on the Friday it would be more up in the air.

Also gives our guys the best chance of recovery from the trip to Perth.

Also, we have quite often sucked in day games this year!

zorko's 300th against a team that is likely playing for finals will definitely be a sell out

I was more thinking of the club having less days rest/recovery/time off than others before the pointy end.

In terms of general rest & recovery I don't see it being an issue with the bye round there. If a player cops an injury in that last game then yeah it's not ideal. On the flip side, the extra time from the Freo game is useful too.

Beside durable in the dictionary should be a photo of Zork's, played at least 20 games every season of his career except for 2012(his first season)when he played 16 games and 2020(shortened Covid year) when he played 17 games.

Apart from Zorko's 300th, it will be also Cameron's 250th & Hipwood's 200th games as well. So it is a huge game all round.

Confirmed. Sunday 7.20pm .
