Reading this thread - our team looks tired and slow, and hampered by untimely injuries to key players, and it’s because Fly was arrogant in resting veterans.

Yep then win again next year and year after thatWe will make the top 4, and win week 1. no problem.
Like I said your historical trauma is not the Club’s or player’s problem. What are you taking?
If a club's history against another club is irrelevant why do fans of the Carlton and Collingwood football clubs slavishly follow the historical tally which now sees us pushing out a nice lead after a period when we trailed. Eddie McGuire is one such avid supporter who constantly references this win loss battle. It matters. Why bother playing in a competitive competition if win/loss records don't matter?
We lead 135 to 129 with 4 draws.
That aside- if you are not in any way bothered by the terrible record our club has in the past 50 years against Hawthorn, that is your prerogative- but I have now clearly articulated how bad our record against Hawthorn under Fly is right here and now, and for some strange, incomprehensible reason you pretend I have said our record over the past five decades is the reason for our recent losses.
The Crows fans are acutely aware of the hold we have had over their club for quite some time albeit with victories which are far less humiliating, we have kept finding a way to pip them in tight contests. Tell them that is of no consequence. I often go on their board when we are going to play them and I see endless references to our win loss advantage over them.
I am sure I will see more of the same in the lead up to our game next Saturday.
How can you pretend a club's history is of no consequence to fans? Perhaps we should scrap premiership tallies as they tend to delve back into the distant past.
Maybe you could tell Pies' fans who still feel heartbroken over the countless grand final losses they have witnessed, often in heartbreaking circumstances over the past 6 or 7 decades to stop living in the past or those losses are irrelevant to our club because they were a while ago now.
The decades long hold the Hawks have over our club is very relevant to those who have endured it and are tired of it. Two total strangers who chatted with me on the walk out of the G both brought up that record before I did and we expressed our disbelief at how long this problem has endured.

We kind of areWe look a Very Old and Slow Team
OK last one - Darcy Cameron got his butt kicked![]()
But, but, but we were wrong to manage our older playersWe look a Very Old and Slow Team

Thank God he’s ok other than the concussion.
Still selfishly worried he’ll not want to go around again next year now.
It's irrelevant to the next result. As wild as the record is history has no bearing on the game at hand.If a club's history against another club is irrelevant why do fans of the Carlton and Collingwood football clubs slavishly follow the historical tally which now sees us pushing out a nice lead after a period when we trailed. Our record against the Hawks during Fly's tenure is relevant. And that is a terrible one given how we have been a top four side for the majority of time in that period. It's irrelevant to the next result. As wild as the record is history has no bearing on the game at hand.
We were wrong to keep so many old players on our list who need resting/managing, thereby weakening and disrupting our team in the back half of the season. But, but, but we were wrong to manage our older players![]()
Well I don't think Pendles, Steele, Checkers, Howe & Billy have been the issue. We were wrong to keep so many old players on our list who need resting/managing, thereby weakening and disrupting our team in the back half of the season.
We needed to be more realistic/rational and less romantic in list management. We rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.
Even if we win both games there’s no guaranteeWe will make the top 4, and win week 1. no problem.
You can make a case for each of them, INDIVIDUALLY. But COLLECTIVELY, its now pretty clear that we're carrying far too many of them. Especially when you add in Cox, Mitchell, Hoskin-Elliott and Membrey. We even rested Lipinski one week, FFS!Well I don't think Pendles, Steele, Checkers, Howe & Billy have been the issue.
And I haven't totally given up like so many on here seemingly have.
I guess we'll only know that at seasons end.You can make a case for each of them, INDIVIDUALLY. But COLLECTIVELY, its now pretty clear that we're carrying far too many of them. Especially when you add in Cox, Mitchell, Hoskin-Elliott and Membrey. We even rested Lipinski one week, FFS!
Add up all the games we had players miss in 2025 due to being managed/rested. Then do the same for all the other teams in the Top 9. You'll see that we've missed miles more matches. That can't possibly be a good thing.
True. But in my book, a match missed due to being rested/managed is little different to a match missed due to injury. Its disruptive at a minimum and at worst, harmful.I guess we'll only know that at seasons end.
That's what I said. It's true.True. But in my book, a match missed due to being rested/managed is little different to a match missed due to injury. Its disruptive at a minimum and at worst, harmful.
This. And we continue to do so.We were wrong to keep so many old players on our list who need resting/managing, thereby weakening and disrupting our team in the back half of the season.
We needed to be more realistic/rational and less romantic in list management. We rolled the dice and came up snake eyes.
