Autopsy R22 Freo Hoodoo Gurus, First Win v Port at AO

Okay Port were shit in the first quarter and we couldn’t take advantage.

But after that, yet again, we had a crap team play out of their absolute skins against us and play better than have done for most of the year. So it was another great win really.
The game should’ve been dead and buried by second quarter.
4.7 to 0.5.
26 points up.

Make that 8.3 with the chances, and it’s way out of reach. 40+ points.

Butters was always going to get off the chain.

Sweet is an impressive ruck. Underrated tbh. Not spoken enough around the league.

Reading new posts in the Justin Longmuir thread will be fun

Shai Bolton is terrible but…

This is the year. The two best teams with proven experience and outcomes are losing to rubbish teams, have some discontent and injuries, and seem quite beatable.

The main threat, the Crows, don’t have the experience. They’ve really overachieved. They’re not that great.

Fremantle are in form, Fremantle’s best is very good, and for once in the club’s history there’s no injuries (sans Young) crippling the team at an important time of the year.

This is that Bradbury, 2016 Bulldogs opportunity.

Please, please, please just do it.

Problem is Bulldogs at Marvel in the last round. Of all the teams, that’s the toughest.

The Fremantle Football Club is not good for my health.

Regardless of that,

Nah, put me in the "Be let down" cycle. That game was honestly a huge bummer. We're not really cut out for September. If we turn in that performance over the next 2 weeks we'll see that for ourselves.

Just...nah. Relief yes, but that's the only positive emotion I have towards this one

29 to 12 plus, and what, 6 x 50m ps? Seriously I stopped watching at 3qt and will not watch a replay of the fourth to protect my mental health and my tv. And of course, noone says anything against the well paid protected species that r ruining our game. Fck me. All we ask for is consistency. Is it too much?

Port fans having the audacity to boo the umps off with a 28-12 free kick count and 50s for days is ridiculous. Someone from the club really needs to show some ****ing balls and call this shit out but as usual they won't because they are ****ing cowards. If this happened to Collingwood Eddie would be screaming bloody murder.

Almost lost this at selection. Wags, Walker, and Simpson all best 22 and fit yet playing at Peel when Banfield and NOD stink it up week after week and are given games.

The coach is a ****ing idiot. Butters killed us after QT and yet did nothing to stop him. The amount of times he just run through because he was matched up on Bolton or Dogga is inexcusable.

This game showed how badly we need Simpson and Walker in. Clark stifled and we had no run what-so-ever off halfback.

Play like that next week and Brisbane tonk us by 15 goals.
Not forgetting that Alir was marking unopposed. Needed to move a forward to go to him and bring a contest

17 marks.
Port did the smart thing and put Lord on Voss to allow Allir to his thing. Treacy and Amiss didn’t work hard enough at times to block or put pressure on him.

That was just poor from our forwards. A lot of that came from reading the flight of the ball better or using his teammates to screen and get space.

The Darcy mark at the end there sums up the umpiring for that game.

****ing herrendous.

Well done Alex Pearce.

Well done Treacy and Serong really standing up.
What really summed up the game was Patrick Voss explaining to the umpire what constitutes a mark as though the umpire had just stepped off a plane.

What a ****ing shitshow.

As much as it’s great we can win these games, how on earth did we put ourselves in that situation?
8 goals conceded in the second quarter, we’re 4th, amazingly and it’s ****ing awesome, but it’s simply unsustainable to keep winning like this.
About 7 of those 8 goals were kicked by an umpire.

That was an epic finish to a poor game overall from our point of view.
Thought Serong and Pearce were massive in the last 2 min with game on the line.
Treacy had some huge moments too. Vossy is just so fun to watch.

All that was missing was Pearce to give us a big “Free Palestine” and fist pump to the camera in his post match interview but it’s ok - he can save that for when he’s accepting the cup on GF day.

I have the opposite take. We've played some tough teams in the last 12 and have 11 wins.
I reckon that's a lot better prep than having training runs kicking cricket scores like Geelong do.
Teams that have it their way against weaker clubs find it much harder playing us.
I would suggest our style, which is consistent is built to stand up in tough hard scraps and we've found different ways to win against different opposition.

Suns only just beat Carlton. A ressies Essendon took it to Geelong for a while.
Brissy just lost at home to Sydney.

But in the end all that matters is that we won.

We seem to find the level of our opponents, good and bad.

I feel like if we do get to have a crack in the top 4 anything is possible
There is a lot more mongrel in our team than there used to be with the addition of Voss , Jackson , Bolton and Clarke - big difference to the last few years
I agree about the mongrel.
JLo's begun doing it too - Pearce said post-game that they all copped a spray at half time. I've heard other players mention it through 2025.
Sounds like the brew might be getting the herbs and spices it needed.
And did you notice how thrilled JLo was with Pearce after the game - absolute gold. They have a bond.

Normally I'd be inclined to agree but this game we brought entirely on ourselves. We dominated the first quarter. Had complete control of the game and had thd crowd and opposition already heads down and beaten only to take the foot right off, give away some very dumb and ill disciplined frees.

If we kept our professionalism and were talented enough to do so this was a comfortable 6-8 goal win barely challenged. Our weakness and discipline caused this to require an escape. It's simply unsustainable and good teams will punish it.

This one wasn't a case of a bad team turning up to play against us like last week, North and the Saints. This time we genuinely played down to their level and struggled to fight back into.
