Windy is a bit like Nas in that his late season form is upping his price. Has definitely earned some more dollars late, good on him and hopefully he can keep improving next year.

There is absolutely no way he'll leave.

My main issue is paying Windy 850k is what do we do when he is up for his next contract renewal. Assuming he improves as a player naturally are you comfortable paying Windy 1m+?

I get we’re all feeling a bit precious with the Nas situation but we start caving to agents now then we’re royally ****ed in the future.

the cap will go up... you can smooth out his next contract...

there's heaps of options available.

you're trying to predict the future which is very hard to do.

I had that thought as well, but there is no reason that we can’t pay him the same, or even less. Less on a number of basis, including:
1. His form drops off
2. Players agree to collectively take less to keep the team together
3. He was previously well paid and “requires” less.

We may as well use all the salary cap now if it’s not negative to collective salary negotiations. It’s a massive reason we have had speculative salary dumps in the past, so that subsequent minimum spend does not result in too many spuds getting paid too much, leading to all spuds wanting an equal share…

I thought that was in SA 😂
Nope, read my original post, that you were quite clear you thought was BS!!

My son & I came over from SA for the game on Saturday. My mate, who basically runs the cheer squad & used to sponsor Terry, caught up with him after the game. Terry was with his wife, another adult & 3 kids, all in Saints gear, yes.

Well that’s a downer

100% this.

im amazed at the short memory.

it wasn't long ago how much Windy was getting pumped up by Stav himself talking about his professionalism and how much he is dragging people with him, leaving no stone unturned.

now he's seen as expendable for a side that's struggling to be consistent.

seems like a huge risk with how the group prepares and performs.
Love how you keep throwing my name in.

Let’s give Nas and windy whatever they want on 2 year deals. Absolutely irrelevant to the fact that we only know what the salary cap will be at the end of 2027 and the previous rights deal only gave abit over $1m a season increase.

Let’s also get Wilson on whatever he wants. Tauru and Trav can have a turn.
Next year alone we have Caminiti Dodson Sharman and Wilson - Pou signing a 4 year extension to get his out of the way early.

And let’s be really tight on new recruits who will help us get better. That will really help them choose us.

And then at the end of 2027 windy and Nas can have whatever they want again - because we didn’t actually negotiate our position. They’ll only be 24 at this point. They won’t be taking less when they have just spent 2 years eating caviar.

There are over 40 players we need to manage and if we have hopes of winning a flag, we will need another couple at Nas’s level.

If we had of kept Battle from last year plus keep NAS then a fit and firing King and we are contending. We we don't need a couple at Nas level (they aren't out there anyway).

Losing players to other teams no matter what the reason is going to cost us a tilt. If its the clubs fault for low balling or the players intention to move away is something that I don't know ... I have a feeling its a bit of both.

If we lose Nas we are going backwards fast.

To be clear I like Windy and want to keep him.

I just think we (St Kilda) have ****ed up by announcing to the competition we have xyz to spend and offering stupid amounts to a good/very good ruck. I have no issue with Windy wanting something extra. All of this is normal.

I just don’t want the precedent to be set that we cave and give overs.

The cap does go up but we have to pay 40 odd players.

theres a mix of bands on the players though right.

i think our biggest risk and concern right now is we aren't retaining what we have. which means we end up in a continual development stage. we could end up just being a glorified development path way or draft capital to other clubs.

alot of that is never going to happen. you're just carrying on now.

there's every possibility Wilson and Trav don't make it. especially on Wilson. there's huge red flags coming though his game now that suggest theres atleast a level of concern if he can make it.

you're splitting hairs over guys, caminiti aside, who are barely best 22, some of the names you mentioned haven't even cracked the best 22 yet.

if you're not going to retain NAS by atleast matching the adelaide and port offers over the years, but you're concerned over a bunch of blokes who aren't even at 3/10 of the level NAS is, then I don't know what to say.
