Of course he isn’t happy. We did not pump them or play at our best. We have beaten one side all season, Collingwood last week. We have failed every important test this year. This game had to be a 60+ win. We did not manage. Annoying.

We will end up in an elimination final scenario again as we haven’t won away all year against a team of merit, but for the swans round 1, and their season proved that the win wasn’t anything special.

Melbourne lost to the Doggies by a kick last game.

Reflecting on the season this stat is pretty huge. It's a milestone.

It feels like we haven't played as well as we did last year, bar a few games like last week. Yet here we are with more wins on the board.

Regardless of how the finals campaign pans out that's a great springboard going into next season.
We’re also 10-6 without Will Day (and 5-1 with him). Given the volume of injuries this year, and the increased scrutiny, it’s a massive step forward…

That's my point.
Demanding 10 goal wins silly.

The important thing is we got the win.
When we lost 3 consecutive games mid season (Gold Coast, Lions & Pies) i thought we were shot Sis & Moore in poor form Day injured etc..

We somehow managed to beat the Dogs & Crows & have only lost to Freo & the Crows away since and had our chances in both games.

Newk seemingly carrying injuries or outof form at times also.

Also missing our preferred forward line setup most of the season.

Our season has been underrated imo.

Btw, the Dee's hardly get blown away but, they are losing games now , future has death written all over it. Buckley is not going to fix shit. He apparently thinks they have a finals list!! Spare me.

Disagree. They won a lot of vital stats against us. I think they aren’t far off. Aren’t they top 4 for scores and clearances from stoppages over a 6-8 week period? With a few changes to personnel I can see them bounce back yo into the 4-8 pack. Whether they can get up to being a flag contender again, I’m not so sure.

That’s why I was impressed with our ability to keep them to sub 70 points.

Suck a lemon.

We should be 1% ahead of Collingwood in 4th spot, not 1% behind Collingwood in 5th.

You even said its the closest season ever. Kicking straight matters. We blew so many chances.

There's no should haves in football.
You get what you get and you don't throw a fit - then strive for more.
Our story this year is the culmination of its preparation, its actions, its fortunes including health or lack there of, and it's belief. Every coach, every player, has done what they were ready and able to do.
Perhaps, just perhaps, greater actions and greater heights await.

65% tog for Ward and 63% for Newcombe which is pretty much level with what Nash and Worps had in their higher rotation quarters.

Newcombe has had fairly low tog the last 2 games.

Is that for the quarter or for the game?

I'm guessing for the quarter, as the AFL site has Newcombe at 72% and Ward at 80% for the game.

Watching back the second quarter you can see why some fans are frustrated. Scores were 48-8 and we absolutely had them on toast, peppering the goals with the ball living in our forward line. As the game wore on and became more of a slog it suited them and they outscored us from that point.

I'm not going to lose sleep over it, but it's true that even just defending those 3 junk time goals would've seen us go ahead of Collingwood on the current ladder. Next weeks game of Melb v Collingwood is not a foregone conclusion though, I think the Demons match up well on the Pies, who live in the contest rather than the spread like us. It was a 1 point game back in June. Hopefully it's a similar result, and we can win by a little more.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Melbourne win next week. So getting the win was important. For top 4 we must beat Brisbane next week. Would love to see Punky go out with a premiership

Couldn’t watch live yesterday as had my son’s engagement party. Followed the scores and big footy and it appears we did it comfortably all day. About to watch the replay…

Quick Q looking at the stats. Demons with more inside 50s. A concern? Midfield and Meek battle for Gawn and co?

Watching from high up, I got a great appreciation of just how well our defensive structures are at present. Melbourne kept switching the ball in defence only to find another dead end. The coverage was superb. And when forced to kick long, we outnumbered them at the contest and generally took the ball away with ease.

Despite his inaccuracy, McDonald had his best game for the year. Hit targets and used the ball well.

I thought CJ had a good game and played the wing as best as I can remember him playing in that position. Hope he keeps it up.

Gunston is the definition of professional. So so smart and accurate.

Moore had a great first half and had 20 and 2 to that point. Has been great seeing him get a lot more involved.

Impey continues to storm into AA contention. He has had an amazingly consistent year and his dash and dare really gets the side going.

I think we are hitting the finals as one of THE strongest and consistent sides.
