McStay has two goals in his last six games. I know there are a lot of Cox haters on here but I genuinely think he can add a bit more to our structure. He actually competed quite well in his first two games back on return earlier.
He can give DC a chop out in the ruck and also help negate opposition defenders by being able to kick longer to him in the square.
Cox is struggling to hold his marks compared to recent seasons, that’s what’s holding back his selection IMO

I thought he was quite good, until he had to kick the footy. You can see why the Hawks cut him, they have no use for kickers like that.
Worpel’s average DE is 61%, Ned’s is 65%. Plenty of Hawks supporters thought he should have been kept based on his earlier form.

What is an out of zone ump had picked up the throw by Keays?
ive long been one that the only stand on umpiring is to get as many decisions correct. It's a standard that any professional code ought to have.
It would have taken 2 seconds to have had the 2 throws and the incorrect out of bounds of our boot correctly adjudicated.
Use a bunker, use captains call, whatever method, but when the data is available, use it.

The Smith non free was just an umpire freezing in the spotlight. Thilthorpe incident just a terrible piece of umpiring, in clear view of all 4 umps !!
i don't buy the ' it all evens up' catchcry. It might in a set of a million events, unfortunately a single game is decided on maybe 5 events.
I used to think that too, but I’m not confident that they always make the right decision.

I’d like to see the stats of out of zone umpires overruling and getting the decision 100% right against v overruling and paying a 50:50 or getting it wrong.

We should have won.
Adelaide did a great job of flooding our forward half.
The scumps did an even better job at looking in the opposite direction and forgetting the basic rules of the game.
Two blatant throws.
Tilthorpe kicking the ball away.
One of their players reading war and peace before giving us the ball back.
Walker pushing Bruzz into Fogarty and Bruzz tunnels him, risking (fortunately none) injuries to Bruzzy and Fog... play on...
Disgruntled

If that's our best (which I don't believe it is) then may as well pack it up and go home now.

Yes we did, at our best we don't.

There's not enough real estate on big footy to display all the reasons why we can't win finals in our current form.
Current form - is latest form, against the Top side.
If you don’t see that as a massive reversal in our prospects then you are being disingenuous or obstinate.

A lot of people are down on the team after this game, laughing at them, colliwobbles rhetoric, saying how bad they were. But let's get something straight.. They lost to the team on the top of the ladder, on an interstate ground, by 1 goal. Additionally they had 71 inside 50's.

This was far from a bad game. Adelaide always had a massive advantage being at home, as do any team on their home state ground. Adelaide would have been favorites against any team in the league last night to win that game.

The Pies are back. Last night's game was a game played with heart and soul. The players threw everything at it. Just need some more fine tuning of structure to be able to score goals on those inside 50's, and tighten up on the defense to stop some of those easy goals Adelaide kicked.

We have a close to injury free side. Howe and Hill to come back in for finals. Watch us destroy Melbourne next week and then go on to win the flag. Book it!
All very well, but you omit to mention the ineptitude of our forwards who were unable to effectively compete and kick goals. That is what lost us the game.

To me the big issue is that it favours free kicks because if just one umpire thinks they've seen a free kick it gets paid. Which means there's an increased benefit in staging for frees or causing high contact. I'd prefer more missed frees than a system that assits those playing for frees.

So apparently all the teams who have beaten us in the past 2 months (in a similar fashion where we cant score) now don't want to play us in the finals? Right....

Everyone will be confident playing us in the finals, put 80 points on the board and you win.
Except “scores against average” show teams don’t score 80 points against.

I don't think that a single goal resulted from inside 50 contest - it was extraordinary when there were so many contests inside our 50.

Apparently so! They are all afraid of us now for some reason. Apparently when a team beats us it means we will beat them next time and learn from our short comings. This is a fact! lol
Actually compared - to all is lost, we are stuffed, the season is over, we are flakes - I’m backing form reversal and domination of the Top side, as a huge positive.

Good point! At least we know we still have it in us.
We are only JDG hitting form away from being excellent.
I think our game plan needs a couple of Hill, Crisp and McCreery in form too. We need more fast breaks from contest. It's what we're built around - breaking from contest more often than the opposition. It can't be only Nick.

Complete domination except for the metric that counts. And this things are easily fixed, our forward line was totally dysfunctional after quarter time. Checkers, McStay and Elliott totally ineffectual, can't see that happening again. I have total faith in the coaching staff to fix these issues, but time will tell.

That was a positive game despite the loss. Dominated a very good team.

We'll be dangerous in finals. It's quite possible we'll be facing the Crows again in week 1 and have a very good chance of winning.

I thought we did enough to win that game and were probably unlucky in the end to lose it.Yes,the ball movement onto the forward line was atrocious, but any team that has 71 inside 50’s should win a game.

We were unlucky in so many ways, especially with the umpiring. After quarter time every 50/50 decision would go the Crows way.Our players were man handled, held, and tunneled, and no free kicks were paid. When we did it,it was an instant free kick, sometimes from the non officiating umpire.Blatant throws of theirs were ignored by the umpires and led to goals on a couple of occasions. Then there was the Forgarty decision late in the game, which clearly was a free kick and was ignored by all of the umpires around him.

I don’t mind losing to a better side on the day,but when the umpires play such a crucial role in the final result,it is a bitter pill to swallow.

Really hope Hill's head and fitness are right. Need his spark.

Our dip in form has not been a surprise and it's depth greatly exaggerated by some. The Hawks game was the worst of it, but that can largely be excused by the 5 day break (we looked exactly like Lions did against us off their 5 day break).

I've tuned out the H&A for a few weeks. Only interested in how we perform in finals. We risked our H&A record in preparing for finals, now we see how that eventuates.

We have a pretty healthy squad and are well placed for a finals tilt. Howe, Hill, De Goey the big three we'd be looking to help elevate our performance.

And the luck wasn't just the umpiring. How can you have that many contests up forward and not have a single lucky spill, bounce, mark where you get first hand to it and it luckily falls into your lap, let alone actually winning a contest ... I don't think we got a single goal from a forward 50 contest in a game where we had more forward 50 contests than I've seen before. Just a weird game to lose.
