I really have nothing to go off besides a bunch, but it seems they are treating this somehow different and dragging it out
All reports to date have suggested the AFL is pushing for 5 matches & season done, while Adelaide is trying to get that reduced to the lower end of 3 and today introduced this new info regarding earlier happenings in the match which sounds like they're using as their defence

They're entitled to do it, but is absolute nonsense and should be ignored. The precedent has been set. Any less than 4 is a garbage ruling and a backward step in whatever quest the AFL are on to try and stamp it out.

It’s terrible people still behave this way but a five week ban during “playoffs” for a verbal mistake in the heat of battle? I guess the maga crowd here changed me for the worse. Around here it’d be at most one week during HA. There’s no way these people are ever changing, despite the extremely long suspensions. Either “it’s just a joke” or “harmless banter.”

If that's how you feel then fair enough. But the AFL want it out and have given bans of this size or more for it previously. Finals makes no difference or shouldn't. Other clubs have been without their players for this time period possible effecting their own ability to make finals.

Don't disagree with any of that. Politicians are blinded by self interest but they've been very clever in throwing plenty of distractions at the voting public to divert away from the problems they can't fix.

As a country (and speaking very generally) we've just been stupid enough to take the bait and not cast an intelligent vote. I don't see it changing any time soon.
Don’t know what to say really. The issue of politics is fraught with difficulties, both sides have failed at times. Given though the majority of governments formed have been conservative, with the left as you put it, trying hard to be middle more, means we are struggling to identify and solve community problems.

We are an incredibly rich nation, how we can’t fix most issues quickly is beyond me.

But perhaps a thread on its own.

Give it up JJ. Go to X or your platform of choice for this stuff.

And some posters were doubting that the suspension will be soft …the AFL will do everything it can to try and wiggle out of handing down a long suspension to a star player on the eve of the finals
I believe as they should but just come out and own it with a statement clarifying that finals will be taken into consideration in future when handing down penalties.

It’s like any other workplace you have a code of conduct, if you breach it you get into abit of strife

He really doesn’t have much to complain about
To be fair to Rankine, his actions to date appear to show that he is not complaining about the punishment that is coming his way. It is the Neanderthals on the crows board that are doing all the complaining.

Plus Eddie McGuire, Leigh Mathews and Jeff Kennett. More Neanderthals.

You can add Hardwick to that list as well.

Kennett should worry about his own indiscretions.

Oh boy. Crows board time. Some are going to melt completely away into nothingness and destroy their keyboards and phones with their ferocity.
His first mistake was speaking. Should have gone for The Hopoate :tm:
AFL lets that slide.... Right in.

Ahh you got to love the Adel supporters

Tex actions was racist but that doesn’t make him a racist

Rankine action were homophobic but that doesn’t make him a homophobe

I’m seeing a pattern here
Even a Mother's Love can't separate Behaviour from the Person to such an extent

Playing around with the ladder predictor and have found my preferred version.

To get this we need the following results:

  • Pies beat Melb by approx 30 pts
  • Suns beat Port by approx 30 points
  • Suns beat Bombers by approx 40 points
  • Hawks beat Lions (any margin)

Playing the Suns at the MCG is clearly the best case scenario for us IMO, and this also sends Brisbane to an away EF at GWS which could very likely lose (their recent record v GWS is similar to ours).

Brisbane v Hawks is the big game because if Lions win, we play them in the QF. If they lose, we will play any of Collingwood, Suns or even Hawks if they have a huge win (unlikely).

Ah yes [player] did [action] but [consequence] doesn't apply here because [baffling context]

A reflection of society and our justice system.

A person commits a crime and instantly the search is on for mitigating excuses to minimise the punishment.....a poor childhood, an 'episode', insanity etc

Sometimes such reasons are genuine, but sometimes it just needs to be accepted that the person chose to do wrong, or is evil, and the necessary punishment should be handed out undiluted.

But we focus on trying to excuse bad behaviour and dilute our principles in doing so, and then you have lawyers rising from the depths to feed on it.

Anyways, rant over 🥴 I'm pleasantly surprised the AFL has stood its ground here.
