How much we were offerring that spud from North Melbourne (LDU), WIndy is worth every $$$ as much as he was offerred. We made the same mistake in NWM negotiations, if we had of offerred him an attractive offer early days he might have taken it then and there. The longer it went on the the more his form grew and the more of a sniff the Adelaide clubs thought they had. Hence his price escalated to record margins.

Pay Windy his worth and stop trying to shaft the players who we should be loyal to.

When we have a top 4 list and a real chance of winning a flag thats when we start asking players to take less, until then we should pay top dollar to keep our better players.

Club haven’t shafted everyone and it’s been proven with Nas and the work we did with the senior guys carrying this side

Stupid hot takes that were proven false as recently as Monday night need to stop.

Windy is not as good as LDU. No side in the league would agree with that.

How many ex Saints rucks have gone on to win flags or play grand finals for other teams?

McEvoy, Stanley, Hickey in recent times.

How many rucks change teams every year - several.

So there's two options here:

1. Back Marshall in for the next 2-3 years and hope either Dodson, Heath or Keeler become a solid future ruck. With someone like Boyd/Tom Campbell/veteran fringe type on the list for extra insurance. And if none of the young ones work out, back-up plan is looking into trades or free agency for a future ruck at a decent price (that's how we got Hickey in the first place).

2. Let Marshall go for peanuts and instead give a ruckman a $14 million contract- when we've already got multiple big contracts on the books (Nas, King) and despite history proving you don't need a good ruck to win a flag. They don't move the needle as much as other positions on the ground.

It's a no-brainer.
You have your opinion. It was already flawed based on your Heath assessment.

Come back and have a crack when there is actually something to be negative about. I'll wear it.

Until then, life must be challenging with this kind of outlook all the time.

LDU just had 40 touches, 17 contested possessions, 10 clearances, 9 marks, 7 tackles, 3 goal assists, 15 score involvements, and 1.1

And its the other way around. We are offering what he's worth but his manager wants 850k! For a role player! If he gets that sum elsewhere then I'll pack his bags

But he'll stay. I'm as confident as I was with NWM

I'd trade Windy for LDU in a heartbeat--no disrespect to Windy as I love him, but LDU is an absolute gun and would be immediately in our top 3 with Nas.

Just feel like it’s relevant to say that all reports had NWM port offer at worst case scenario of $2m a season for 10 years.

Mitch Cleary on the tradies Pod said the actual deal averaged out to 1.5-1.7m a season.

The same principle should be applied to TDK.

Which would mean his deal would average out to 1.3-1.5m a season. Which would fall in line with Bassats quote of the numbers not being that high (1.7/8m a season)

I maintain the story was and is complete ****ing bullshit.

Its an easy (and lazy) narrative to paint (poor indigenous boy from the bush is grossed out by the rich white mans opulence) but i dont reckon anything even close to it ever happened.

The media cycle has to chew through a ton of words and none of them is ever held to account for any story regardless of how specifically it may be called out as bullshit (see the Nas/Tex story) so why wouldnt they just start making shit up.

The skerick of truth (lunch as Bassats house) gets turned into a story

It was take out Chinese in plastic boxes and Ross rocked up in sandals.

No, Windhager is not worth as much as LDU lol. I do think LDU is overrated but that is literally insane. I want Windy to stay but this is wild.

You are also way out of line with Wanganeen-Milera. Complete revisionist. No one knew Wanganeen-Milera was going to be the best player in the league. You are just shouting at clouds again.

One game otherwise he has been bog average this year - Sheezel had over 50 disposals says a lot about the opposition.

Windy is 4 years younger and against Sydney had - 36 disps (20 kicks 16 hballs) and 8 marks in Rd 18 5-pt loss to Sydney at Marvel Stadium (13 Jul 2025)

Once again you poke your head up with garbage and display a complete lack of understanding of the game....LDU is on 1.4m per year FFS.

Except it wasn't based (entirely, or even mostly) on Heath.

Come back when you're willing to read other people's posts and actually respond to their points.

I guess the point is why are you choosing to be negative less than 48 hours after the happiest news since, well, forever.
Using inaccurate stats/figures to bolster your negativity all the while.

Horrible way to exist.

The plan is clearly let’s get good tomorrow now that Nas is here and we have been told keeping him is linked to our success now.

We have a plethora of kids. Kids are great. Kids lack consistency. Bringing in a few older bodies to fill gaps also gives the side consistency and a level for the kids to reach to win a spot.
This might make some sense for other positions on the ground. Like a mature key back insurance option to replace Cordy. Especially given Howard's injury issues this year.

But why Liam Ryan? We have an endless supply of small forwards. Higgins, Hall, Butler, Henry, Collard.

Soooo LDU has been BOG average yet his stats look like this in comparison to Windy?

You just proved the point of the multiple people disagreeing with your take

I did - that's why I engaged you.

What's happened in the past is irrelevant - that's why I chose not to answer.

The game is changing all the time. The ruck rules are changing.

Hell, we were told that Nas is gone because he hadn't signed yet at this time of year- even that is changing.

You are choosing to be negative - or maybe you are just a negative person.

Sure, TDK might not work out, and that would be bad - but what's the point in harping on about like an idiot like it's already happened?

It hasn't. He is coming. Strap yourselves in.

Not at all.

If you've been following this thread I've been arguing against TDK all year.

It's precisely because we've signed Nas that it becomes even more crucial to get everything else right.

St Kilda's future is looking bright for the next 2 years - but we need to consider the next 5, 6 years to maximise the chances of keeping him into another deal. We want to put ourselves in a position to utilize him effectively over his prime, and sell a future where he'll want to play his prime at Moorabbin.

Signing a nearly 29-year-old small forward for 4 years when it's already one of the most clogged positions on our list, and offering a backman $900k a year when he's played 22 games, while offering 2 years and unders to one of your own young mids who had 36 disposals and 3 coaches votes last week, are simply not smart moves.

Sure, so did Stan Alves, im not advocating for his RWNJ ass to be back in a chair somewhere.

We can appreciate what he did whilst also not wanting him back.

Actually think he built the list that Lyon inherited. He set us up for our only sustained period of high performance in my lifetime. He took the hard road and got it right. Doesn’t mean I want him back but worth acknowledging him for his contribution

I would argue we have precisely 0 smalls who are good overhead and can inject speed/goal nous/midfield speed.

That backmans contract is now reported as low as 600k with performance triggers to take him UPTO 700k 😂

Well, I have no interest in debate with someone not arguing in good faith.

$900k, lol
Small forwards clogged, lol
