Amazing to think if we hadn't given up the farm for Lukosius last year in another 'top up for ken' moment, he'd probably be next to free this year after a year in the 2's and we would have a top 6 pick also.

He would of been free end of 2026. Free agent. Wouldn't have to take his 1 million contract either and could be less, however, Crows might of bidded on him too so would of came down to whether he came to Port or Crows on money at that point. It's funny because Suns needed Lukosius off their books to pay Rowell and others, Port didn't need Lukosius if we assumed we had Georgiades, Marshall and Lord just at that stage and they were hoping to get Whitlock in the draft. They could of wait until end of 2026. It is what it is though. Hoping he actually gets his head in the game and knuckles down over the break and pre season and becomes an actual footy player who treats it like a professional sport player otherwise, he's a wasted trade.

The age old problem of Hinkley not being able to develop talls reared its ugly head again last season and we would've looked desperate after Dixon retired to get another marquee tall forward.

Leave it a year. Keep our pick. Luko is relegated to the 2's. The Suns struggle with their cap. We don't also take the cap hit of Rory Atkins who was completely dead weight on their cap. We grab Luko cheap in 2026. We don't have Atkins and didn't need him anyway. We pick up Dyson Sharp. I also think we would have pick 50 to splash because we didn't pick up Atkins and we could've picked up Dodson, Hamish Davis, etc.

All because we needed a tall forward.

Damn. No Josh Lai.

I don't get this one. He's arguably been our most consistent AFL-listed player at SANFL level across the season. He is physically the best defender replacement for Bergman and Sinn. He plays a strong, reliable brand of footy and has pace and power which suggests he can translate his talents to AFL level. Why he hasn't even been spoken about as a potential AFL debutant or a player to watch in the future, really surprises me. Our development coaches have been talking up Ramm and MacKinlay at every opportunity, but Lai's name never comes up. Yet, all the SANFL commentators, including Ginever, have long identified him as AFL material.
