What a first year from this stud. Poise, composure and decision making beyond his years. I just want the ball in his hands more because he makes things happen.

Develop him across half back for another year or so before unleashing him into the midfield.

He’s our Jordan Dawson imo.

I'd be putting him straight into the midfield next year. He's got Cripps level of calmness in traffic and he'll compliment the more explosive types like Kerch, Wardlaw and LDU.

We also need to stop treating our backline as some kind of petri dish. No wonder we get chopped up. Kerch was the perfect example yesterday.

if he can get the ball 25+ times a week he will be top 5 players in the comp next year.

Agree on both points.

Xerri, Sheezel, LDU, Wardlaw, FOS, McKercher (+a defensive mid like Windhager) should be our mix.

A defensive ruck
A general mid (Sheeze)
2x offensive mids (LDU/Kerch)
An explosive defensive mid (Wardlaw)
A defensive mid (eg. Windhager/Urquhart)
A utility mid (FOS)

We need to shift the mindset in the middle to create a more defensive edge in the midfield group, in order to unleash our explosive players and protect our defence until such players as Dawson and Whitlock are mainstays in the backline.

he’s already one of the best ball users in the comp, just doesn’t get it enough
I know what your saying, he's definitely an exciting prospect but top 5 in the comp by next year is a massive call. Does definitely have Pendlebury vibes about him and can't wait to eventually see a bit of him in the midfield next year

We'd have been better off moving FOS onto Keays after that first goal imo.

Are we absolutely sure about this midfield stuff? To me he shores up a very unintelligent backline. I'm not sure if we're ready to remove the buffer he provides just yet
I wanted him in the midfield a few weeks ago, for the midfields sake. But if we can pick up or develop a defensive mid this offseason then I'm happy for him to have another year in his current role.

FOS and Hardeman can be the distributors down back. Push McKercher up. Replace Daniel with Archer, Goater or a trade target. We can have some more size in the backline.

We get chopped up because we have minimum 3 blokes back there who can’t defend. Daniel/kerch being two of them. Good thing about FOS is he is actually a solid one on one player/defender.

I don’t mind him doing an apprenticeship behind the ball, he wasn’t a natural accumulator as a junior, so playing half back will help that considerably. Be happy to wait until he is 3/4kg heavier before unleashing him into the midfield.

Adelaide did it perfectly with Dawson and you can see how much of a weapon he is now.

He needs defensive support around him back there. Getting Starcevich and adding Archer back into the mix over Daniel/Kerch would allow FOS to intercept and accumulate more.

In time I want FOS to play the Daniel role setting up across half back. He has the perfect mix of composure and vision that allows him to be an overly damaging player.

Happy to be different on this one.

If you have plans to play him down back on a more permanent basis, then there's an argument we should have split pick 2 and taken two players of greater positional need.

He was a gun midfielder as a junior and not all impactful midfielders are accumulators.

He was very good in the middle in that latter part of the Saints game.

We're mucking around too much if he's not getting serious midfield minutes next year. Hardeman could play the role you're suggesting with Archer as your lockdown mid sized defender

That’s fair mate!

I just see so much value in having that composure behind the ball. The most damaging half backs in the comp pretty much play as that extra midfielder at the back of the stoppage anyway.

You'd love two of him but to have players of he and Sheezel's temperament, skill and class pretty much developing together, it's hard to believe we won't be contending in a few years.
