I posted this knowing what was most likely about to happen today - and it did.

Unfortunately, along with our stupidly aggressive press, Tim shitting and pissing all over himself in any real, important game is a recurring theme.

We won’t win finals with him as our main ruck. And this total nonfactor allows opposition rucks to dictate the terms to any good midfield. Which in turn puts our already shit backline at further risk.

What we need to do, is be brave and salary dump Tim like we did Caleb and Macrae.

But we won’t because we’re in too deep and he’s Bevos favourite pet of all.

If we boot JUH we should have around 2m in cap space.

We need to grow a set and target 2-3 players worth 600-700k a season or 1m a season to patch the holes on our list.

Adelaide brought in a bunch of players. Hawthorn did the same.

We have several gaps to fill. Our bottom 6 needs to become a bottom 2-3.

We have a lot of promising young players that will be better next year and likely some cash to bring in a couple of okay players.

But the reality is, if we don’t:

1. Completely change the way we defend the ground, or

2. Overhaul our defensive unit

Then nothing will change under this coaching staff.

Unfortunately we have zero reason to believe either of those two things will happen.

Book us in for a 6th-10th finish again next year.

Yeah I’m out on JOD. He doesn’t have it

JOD has the 3rd worst 1on1 win% in the AFL for his position and we saw that play out in real time today.

Just like Gardner, Gowers, McComb before him he has had the most gifted run of games imaginable. After only playing 1 game of high school football for Xavier first's he get's drafted as a Cat B rookie then after just 4 VFL games gets thrown straight into the seniors and has been Bevo's first choice ever since.

How many more games gifted to him until he gains some footy IQ and learns to defend in space? He doesn't just lose 1 on 1's but he loses them badly. I lost count of how many uncontested marks opponent's took on him today because they got so much separation.

Going into 2026

We can't have Lobb as our number 1 defender
Mainly due to age,

We need to target a experience 25-28 year old defender to take the number 1 forward role
I did post that nobody is really available, but Butts is an RFA next year - big offer as a pre-agent?

No world beater but he can actually defend and let JOD play the role he should be playing.

Sam Power is a good operator but he should be getting some heat over the same positional issues that have plagued us for years. We go into another (basically) final with McNeil starting, our defenders getting wrecked and our ruckman flopping.

It’s a damn shame that we missed out on Barrass because we weren’t prepared to go as hard as the hawks did to get that over the line. The thinking was correct.

Not sure how people can watch that and think Tim English was the problem. Darcy and Jackson is the best ruck combo in the AFL and I thought Tim competed fine - Jackson had an impact when he was forward but that was about it. Comparison between English and Darcy tonight:

English - Darcy
  • Disposals: 15 - 7
  • Marks: 6 - 1
  • Hitouts: 40 - 29
  • Tackles: 7 - 3
  • Clearances: 2 - 0
  • Score Involvements: 6 - 4

Yep. He got double teamed. A lot of rucks would have had trouble with that.

English was actually really physical today compared to what he normally is. Would be nice if he brought this every game.

McNeil isn’t a Power problem it’s a weak point in Bevo that no one seems willing to address. If you are on the good side Bevo just keeps playing you. Bad side and you won’t get back. It’s like trying to get rid of Bubba. Bevo had an absolute conniption but it had to be done. Can we revisit whether we keep grant or Bevo in the power play stakes please? I’d like a do-over……

Not wrong on that Bevo stuff. We nearly lost West over making him learn his craft in the vfl. The standards have been different for his believed Mcneil and vdm. They haven’t had to learn anything in the vfl. And it shows.

But we had an attempt to improve on McNeil in Charlie Clark then when he was shown to be no good we just kind of gave up. Really wanted us to address it last trade period and we just went back in with the vdm - McNeil combo for most of this season. And expected something to happen there. For a couple of weeks they kicked some goals then regressed hard as expected.

Not only that we have VDM 3 extra years when he’s likely going to be behind AJ, Dolan and Hynes for all 3, just like Gardner immediately fell out of favour after getting a premature extension. And none of those guys are even sure things right now.

clubs like the lions take risks on some injury players. Daniher was one and now Allen is the next.

Jordan Ridley is one id take a punt on.

Taking no risks is the biggest risk. We can’t continue in this fashion.

Imo move Garcia on for whatever we can get - panicked all game with shit dump kicks.

Busslinger just doesn't have it.
We’ll have him! Want Liam Ryan?!?

Maybe Matt Flynn?

Jokes aside. Unlucky today lads. For obvious reasons I was team dogs today.
