West Coast have no leaders and probably the worst crop of under 22s the competition has ever seen. No wonder they’re on their knees putting their hands out.

How have they been so bad for so long and the only promising young player on their list is Harley Reid?

Give this rabble what they need. As a supporter of the game, this is grim.
West coast eagles had leaders. They are either injured or retired.

Tim Kelly is there but he is physically fine. I think he is mentally checked out. He turned 31 years old in July and got a 2 year extension a month ago. Eagles didn't really have a choice.

If Yeo and Sheed was available, they would of been more competitive in the middle .

They have some promising key position players .

If it's true about Ryan wanting to go to saints on a 3 year deal and they get the saints 2nd rounder or 2026 2nd rounder, take it.

Or wait until his contract runs out next season and someone offers him a 3 year deal as a free agent

What’s the Harley Reid ‘temperature’ over there ? Hold him and give him a 2-year deal with 7-year option for $20m? Or trade him for probably 3 x top-15 picks end of this year or next and build a deeper list?

It seems his manager is holding the Eagles to ransom, knowing they’re under massive pressure to retain their best potential asset.

Right now on Reid’s performance and the fact he turned up to pre-season a little out of shape is he worth anything remotely near $2m / year.

The demands are taking the P155 and are based almost entirely on potential. I think Reid will be an excellent player … but will he be a better player than Callaghan, Green, NWM, Serong, Rowell, JHF, Holmes, Anderson ..? It’s still very much up in the air where he gets to as a player.

But if you’re paying anywhere near $2m per season you can’t afford him to be Max Holmes or Caleb Serong … he needs to be Daicos or Bont.

What do Eagles supporters want ? Would they be cheering a 2/7 $20m deal or thinking the club has panicked and been held over a barrel?
Just find it crazy that Harley Reid is offered 2 million dollars a year for 10 years.

Even at his best. Judd's last contract at the eagles was only $650,000 a year before his start of his prime years in 2006 as a 22 or 23 year old.

But the salary Cap at 2005 to 2007 was much smaller.

Remember when they recruited Owies, Baker and Graham to help them win games.

yeah but if you ignore that, the only way to rebuild according to a team who have been rebuilding at an elite level, sorry I cant remember what I was saying.

It's weird when Eagles supporters say they are ahead of us in the rebuild, when they have had statistically the worst W/L season in AFL history.

At least wait for evidence of that instead of asking the AFL for handouts.
They’re staying down there for years. The Eagles WAFL side they wanted so badly has won five spoons in a row.

Eagles are the only club that has improved going backwards and losing players like McGoven , Allen , Barrass
makes sense and that 1 win for the season was a good indicator of their improvement and atleast they remained above 60% average i suppose

As bad as the eagles 1 win and 22 loss record suggests, I don't think the eagles will get a "hand out". Well not in the typical AFL way.

If it's true Oscar Allen wants out and goes to Brisbane, eagles will get that top 5 pick as compensation.

Eagles could go into the draft with picks 1 and 2.

No chance eagles trade pick 1. I can see eagles trade pick 2 for a package of a few picks or players or both.

If the eagles trade pick 2 for 3 or 4 decent picks and draft 3 or 4 solid players that they will get 10 to 12 years and 150-200 games each, then it's a win.

West Coast dont care about wins
they just care about playing kids 22 and under
Partially true. At West coast eagles, this is the hardest part of the rebuild.

Yeah the wins don't matter at this point. Improvement with certain players matters.

I just can't see any gun WA blokes coming into eagles to go back in the home state.

Only blokes I can see with AFL experience would be a Mitch Duncan type that's 31 years old or over on a one year deal. The other types would be rotation or fringe players from other clubs that are aged 22 or 23 or 24 year old C graders with 10 to 30 games of AFL experience

They will need these C graders from other clubs for depth if injuries hit their best 23-25 they actually wont have much depth
Whilst they did have injuries to players like Waterman and Yeo and senior players which wont be at the club in 2026
Yeo & Waterman become very important along with Baker , Cripps , Graham , Duggan the eagles really dont have much experience or leadership.

Hard times ahead

Bad message to send to your players that you have improved... the facts are quite stark.

Ball movement and staying competitive for longer in games. Both easily improvements from 12 months earlier. Applying more forward half pressure for longer.

Led by 7 points at half time v Swans. A year earlier we would have been 10 goals down.

Those facts are pretty obvious to see. Even for a dope like Hird. And you.

States an opinion then states it as facts.

Never change ball bag, never change.

Show me the Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera of 2007. Just signed for $2m a year and right now (will change in a few weeks) his list of personal accolades is pretty empty.

The AFL has changed. Players are paid on potential more than ever before.
