Collard is supremely talented but just doesn't get enough of it - how do we fix it?
I have been one giving it to him a bit as i know he has the tools to be a very good player but has lacked effort ect , i thought yesterday he was really good with his attitude , energy and that nice chase down the wing that he never gave up on.
See Lance i knew you could do it , just needed a kick in the ass from Grumps

Can only go off what Ross says. Which the other week he said they see him as a forward.
Only if we have a replacement down there, i wouldn't be surprised to see Keeler train with the defenders, you can't fit all of King, Dodson, Marshall if he stays as well as Sharman you become too tall & then add Caminiti we would be to slow.

Dodson Marshall TDK all playing in the same team ?!?!?

It looks like we project to have some serious KP depth next year.

Can only be a good thing.

As a pure defender, which is just as much as turning defence into attack as it is to just pure stopping. Yeah, I think Aleer is the better defensive prospect.

Take nothing away from Caminiti. I think what he has done has been heroic down there this year.

But if the worst is that we agree they are a much of a muchness. Then that makes us better doesn’t it?

Caminiti goes forward Aleer plugged in down back.

Or both stay back and we never see Dougal again.

Either way the side gets better. My point was ultimately we pat on the back Caminitis improvement down back, we should infact expect development from Aleer (hopefully it starts with his body work 1:1)
The big difference is Caminiti was thrown back this year after injuries. He learnt on the fly.

Aleer was drafted as a defender, is a mature ager and has three years in the system. I've seen little improvement from him which is a worry for me. And I was big on getting him 12 months ago.

I think we both agree that getting him would be good for the overall list. The money rumoured is crazy for his output though so that's concerning for me.

Don't think you can play Macrae and Steele in the same team. It won't work in today's footy, inside bulls are going out and transition mids are coming in and we have a few those coming through. With the likelihood of the last touch rule coming in, that'll make them even less relevant. I think Ross knows this hence Macrae starting as the sub yesterday. I think Steele is the better player if all things are equal. But wouldn't be surprised if both are playing VFL at different stages next year.

I totally agree thats why I have been suggesting recruiting Macrae was an indifferent decision. His lack of leg speed is really telling and combined with Steele & Clark our midfield looked really slow at times. Steele did need help in there with a big mature body, but I question Macrae's effective longevity.

Macrae started the season on fire and ended being in the top 10 for clearances so he can find the ball. I guess sustaining a punctured lung didnt do him any favours. But like Steele its their lack of burst speed that hurts with their lack of damage out of contests thats really evident. As you mentioned John the midfield game has changed quite a bit in recent years, hence Cripps having such a poor year.

Perhaps if the AFL bring in ruck rule changes things will change again, as the drop of the ball will be less predictable so perhaps the pendulum will swing back their way. Particularly if TDK can jam a few taps down their throats.

It has been mentioned that he is great with the younger players spending time helping them with their games which is great, as I dont think Steele is the greatest communicator.

Look mate, the Giants have had significant injury issues this year. Aleer has been ever present since coming into the side and finishing the year with a 10-2 record when he plays.

So I can’t buy into him being crap when he is often playing on the main man and - yes he has also learnt on the fly.

I’m not calling him a star. Just of the opinion we will be better with him as opposed to without.

Yes 🤣
Gabelich on SEN this morning said he’s staying. ( for what it’s worth. )
I believe the media when it suits me 🤣
Still confident he stays and if he keeps going he will get paid when we restructure the cap at the end of 2027

It's all about making our list better overall and how our bottom 6 stacks up. In terms of our key position defensive stocks, you have Cordy leaving and Aleer coming in. We are immediately better.

Ok so Aleer is coming down, does the club have any idea what they expect to pay in a trade? Although he is out of contract GWS have stated they want to keep him, so I think he is going to cost a decent pick.

Id rather we build around Camma and get a core defensive group with continuity and chemistry.

Camma has all the physical tools to be that big bodied lock down defender. Then Wilkie, Tauru (who is a swingman) and Aleer around him. Perhaps Barrat takes Taurus spot if he goes forward at some stage.

I was suprised Howard got a new contract and im hoping hes depth personally.

All that is dependent on King staying healthy too. If King goes down we gotta scramble again.

Bottom six will kill you if they aren’t up to it, look at the bulldogs yesterday.

If he was just depth you’d shrug and move on.

We’re paying for best 22 way over what GWS have reportedly offered and he’ll cost a decent pick. A third seems fair if we drag it out maybe that or a swap of seconds gets it done.

Thats exactly why we should stay away from Ryan, he is contracted and WCE want high draft picks which he is not worth! Ryan is the type of player you chase if you finish top 4 and need that bit extra to go the next step, we are not in that position. Use our early draft pick at the draft and if we desparately want a small forward snap up Dovaston he is the future.

I’m starting to think the Saints have foreseen the change in a couple of things with the potential recruitment of TDK and Ro most likely staying.

1. The sub rule change, 5 on the bench, playing 2 rucks becomes very attractive and a pretty substantial POD if you have two that are the quality of TDK & Ro.

2. The change with rucks being able to run and jump again, won’t be much better at that than TDK imo, similar to Ro he’s probably suffered a little bit with the whole stand and bash and crash when he’s so athletic, that really changes things at centre bounce especially.

Maybe it’s just worked in our favour but potentially we saw this coming down the track, I think it could be a big change in the game next year and you’ll see a bunch of teams trying to set up their off-season making sure they have at least two serviceable rucks to play each week.

With Webster retiring and Stocker being shakey this past month, we need to find another option as a lock down small defender.

Not an area to spend big on but something we need to address or it could leave us vulnerable against the best teams next year
Wonder if Bowey would move a year early?

Collard is the type that, if he reaches his potential, could be the Bobby Hill on GF day

If they change the ruck rule where it goes back to ruckman leaping at the ball, Keeler's worth also goes up.
