2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Well this is what AB and Ross have said they are aiming at from the beginning.
So lets hope their eyes are still firmly on that goal.

Having said that they obviously want to make finals while Wilkie, Sincs etc are still around. We are paying the price for ad hoc rebuilds / poor draft picks in the past that have seen us with a dearth of players in the mid- 20s range.

Its a tough one. A real balancing act.
Reckon we're trying to have a crack in the short term (2025-2027) while continuing to bring in kids that will give us a sustained run after the Sincs, Wilkie, etc era is over.

Similar in a way to Hawthorn pinching a flag in 08 with a bunch of kids & Crawf ... then having their real run at it when those kids were bonafide A graders.

We also did that with a burst under GT before RTB took over.

Maybe its Ross' time in the next few years then Boris is the man that delivers the three peat ;)

Stocker.

But granted we definitely aren't flush for players in that area - especially with Webster retirement and McLennan delisting.

I would assume this might be a target for us in the back end of the draft.

Not sure if Hastie is a lock-down type or if he is a rebounding defender/winger. Will be interesting to see how he develops.
I don't think Stocker has the agility to do it. Love what he brings to the team, but he is very easily out manouvered by the good small forwards.

I think you're greatly overthinking this scenario. We would be trading 7 for Flanders and Ryan. I'm not necessarily saying we should trade 7 for Flanders, but if we did, and we can also get Ryan for that same pick, then who cares. You would rather trade a future second purely so WC don't get the satisfaction of moving up 1 spot in the draft?
I’d trade anything over something that involves a top 10 pick.

We have two full drafts of picks we can use. We don’t need to be doing multi layered deals with our first round pick for someone who shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as a pick that high

I don't think he has been exposed in that role too often, IMO.

Happy to be proven wrong if there are games where he has had bags kicked on him?

One of his most impressive performances, for me, was keeping Harrison Petty to four touches against Melbourne - giving away 12cm.

And as Winmar2Lockett mentioned, kept Shai Bolton well in his pocket.

Gee whiz we if add
TDK
Aleer/Jsos
Liam Ryan
Flanders
Fincher
First round pick? (Maybe that's the price for Flanders)

She's gonna be a fun trade period and even more fun next year
And it'll be the first trade where all the bullshit rumours come true. Dunno about you, but I'm putting all my money on bullshit this year once again.

You might be right that he hasn't been exposed, but I am just going off watching him play and his attributes. He has a large turning circle and doesn't change direction quickly. For an example:

O'Connell as well

I think he finished the season in the midfield to teach him the offensive side of the game. Already broke through for his debut purely with his defensive stuff so I can see him going back to defence in Jimmy's role

We could probably turn our 2027 first into Flanders and Ryan, we'd still have nas then, should be finals but other teams don't rate us, also tassie coming in so pick would be later. I'd really like to keep our first this and get another youngin in, Wilson, pou, nas our 10-18 picks in the past few years and look like great selection, nas already proven obviously

Very good point.

What were your thoughts on LOC in a midfield role? I didn't watch him play in there but it was nice to see him pick up a few clearances on the stats sheet.

LOC is a real wildcard I reckon. Had a great preseason (including that clinch mark in the practice game against Port) which earned him selection at the start of the year but then had a concussion which pushed him to the back of queue. Was then moved into the midfield at Sandy, presumably a position he had never played before, and seemed to excel with really impressive numbers.

He has some really exciting attributes and his trajectory is very promising. No idea where he ends up settling, but I think he could become a valuable contributor.

If we are winning finals Stocker is not in our best 23.
I think that's probably right, unless he adds an intercept and rebounding element to his game which is not impossible. He looks to me to be way too heavy in the legs at the moment and is sort of in no mans land position wise.

He played a lot like Tom Green. Big frame over the ball and clean hands. In the last game he took 2 big contested marks running back with the flight of the ball inside F50 so his running power and hands overhead really stood out

Its interesting the level of fervour that's been created. I'm excited by Nas resigning, TDK coming across and Flanders if it happens.

I doubt JSOS occurs and don't believe Ryan or Aleer are going to take us where we want to go.

I'm a bit meh, particularly why Windhager is not signed and supporters are so keen to see Steele and/or Marshall traded.

Ok this will be my last reply because we're just going in circles. If we did this, then the trade is for Flanders. We would not be trading a top 10 pick for Ryan. I don't understand why your objection to Ryan being thrown in for essentially free. We would be trading the pick for Flanders anyway. Not a soul walking this earth thinks Ryan is worth a 1st rd pick, let alone top 10, but Flanders arguably is. It sounds like you would rather trade pick 7 for Flanders and then do a seperate trade for Ryan, purely so he is not mentioned in the same sentence as pick 7 on paper. This is mad if true.

Works hard on his kicking, I’m told he’s been seen quite a few times in the ammo’s ground at elsternwick park working on his kicking.
Set shots have become a lot more reliable this season.

I reckon Akaifu is spot on in regards to midfield minutes. O'Connell was showing a lot at VFL level, in particular his leadership qualities. He has been working on running the lines, which could see him move back to the backline or on a wing.
