This is a shit argument

So because Malcolm Blight played in a 12 team comp his Brownlow and AAs make him less a player?

Its less impressive definitely.

Being the best player in a 1state - 12 team comp with 20 players playing per team is less impressive than being the best in an 18 team comp with 23 players playing.

Just like Collingwood's premiership in 1910 flag against 9 teams is far less impressive than its 2023 against 17 teams.

Come on Man!

But in all honesty -my argument was centered a lot more on the ruck position. It's far easier to be an all Australian ruckman than it is any other position on the ground.

Dawson will join that list soon if he hasn't already. As with Tex there is too much recency to rank him accurately, we have to leave it few years.

Yup, Adelaide's lack of long-term star footballers over the journey really does make that possible.

For instance should Dawson take home the Charlie this year, I don't think there is a genuine argument for not including Jordan in the top 5 in the club's history come next year.

Walker has 7 great years for me. 2012, 2015-2017, 2021-23. With at least two of those being an all-time great captain too. The rest of his career is mostly solid-to-good with a few dips for injury/form.

There aren't very many with a record better than that. But they do exist. Ricciuto and Mcleod were both amongst the top players in the competition for well over a decade straight. Arguably Edwards and Goodwin are close too.

Even Modra, who I'd say had two years at his very best (1993 and the first halves of 1994 and 1997), and doesn't have the same amount of runs on the board. But his good years were so obscenely dominant that his down years in between look extremely good in hindsight.

Blight's All-Australian awards were from the State Carnivals. Arguably worth more

Still doesn't get close.

Those two are heads and shoulders above Tex - even if he kicks 20 and the norm smith.

They are all 300+ gamers.

McLeod 340 games, 3 B&F, 2 norm smith, 5 time AA,
Roo - 312 games, 3 B&F, 1 Brownlow, 8 time all Australian.

Tex - 300 games, 0 B&F, 1 time all Australian. His resume (footy wise) is probably a bit behind Goody & Ben Hart's, but his impact on the Club has been bigger IMO which means he is a clear 3rd.

I think I did these rankings for top 10 Crows in 2023. Might have slightly changed.

My Top 10:

Tier 1 - Roo, Macca
Tier 2 - Walker
Tier 3 - Goody, Hart, Modra, Jarman
Tier 4 - Rehn, Betts, Edwards.
Smart?

The fact 8 of those players lined up together in the same team is scary. I do miss that premiership era. Had a cracking team.

The Greatest Player isn't based on games played, it's a plays a part but only a small part.

You are underselling Rehn, he was the dominant ruckman in the comp for a number of years and it wasn't just tapwork. Tex has never been the best forward. Probably equal with Curnow in 2023.

Dawson has two all Australians and two best and fairest. Probably three at seasons end and turned the on field group around. A good argument that he has been one of he best leaders the club has had. I think he will rate high.

As I said I think you need to differentiate between your favourite player.

Anyway it's gone way off track. Agree to disagree.
Rehn was the dominant ruckman in 2 years. 1994 and 98. 95-96 injured. 97 finding his way back after two knee recons.

How many segments did Bob Murphy get for his 300th again?

360 spent half of Wednesday's show on us and mentioned Tex's 300 several times.

I suspect there would have been more fuss had it not been a final and the club (and Tex) wanted the focus to be on winning that instead.

It is an exceptional achievement for a big player. Not many bigs get to the 300 game mark and not one with character. Tex achievement of 300 games is fantastic and I think he should every bit be in the discussions of the best forwards of all time rankings. If he played in the era of open forward lines and 1 on 1, the dude would be a 100 goal a year forward hands down.

If we had to rank crows forwards, overall I think he is a better all round forward than Modra. Modra stood out with pack marking but Tex has everything else covered.

Absolutely. I rate him a fair bit higher than Modra for that reason. 60 goals in today's game is worth 100 in the 90s.

I think Roo and McLeod are a rung above everyone else who's played for the club. Tex has to be right alongside that next rung of players like Goodwin, Smart, Hart and co.

I hope he can turn it on this finals series. His form suggests he will.

Tex is a big game player. I think he can play next year too. I just added to my last reply he is better than Mods. And yeah Tex is a length of the straight in 3rd position on the all time Crows list. Roo and Macca are equal first on their impact on the club. We were a new club and Macca and Roo really made us an AFL club that could compete with the best. Id put Tex on the same level if im honest but you have to draw a line somewhere. If I was rewarding 100 out of 100 both Roo, Macca, Tex all have that passmark.

Looks like the Addy have put up an interview with the girl Tex held by the hand before R1, 2015

One of Tex’s best moments still. Can’t believe it’s been over a decade since then

The 32 page liftout? Haha No other player is getting that in this state!

I was looking for a highlights package of Tex last night, could only find snippets or highlights from separate years, any come across a recent full career package?

This one is pretty good, gets every era from the skinny kid, the bloke who exploded in 2012, then the captaincy era into old man Tex
