For those who are curious about the video, and to save yourself the unpleasantness of it. Kirk is sitting in a chair, holding a mic and talking to the crowd. Then suddenly a bullet hits him directly in the neck, right on the artery. Immediately bleeds heavily, whilst Kirk himself seems to go stiff instantly, arms locked. Would not be surprised if it went through and hit the spine. Also looked like a large caliber.

I'd personally avoid looking at it.

Apparently the shooter shot at him from a good distance. 200 yards.

Sadly, I feel these kind of things will start to occur more often. Would not surprise me if a Kirk fan targets a random Democrat in revenge. And the ball will roll back and forth.

This is the result of a long standing problem of American culture, of glorifying violence, whether domestic or abroad. Putting politics and money, over humanity. The lack of empathy by many over war crimes, or school shootings, and just showing some respect for your neighbor. And the efforts of the far right maga movement, funded by christian nationalists and billionaires, driven by the media. With their self invented culture wars, and attempts to redirect blame of every day issues onto people who have no cause in it.

America has always been divisive, and a pressure cooker. But no where near the levels of the last few years starting around 2016. Since whatever this is, that hijacked the Republican Party from being respectful, law abiding, old fashioned conservatives, that didn't hold the country hostage, and could debate reasonably.

So, so, so glad Australians are more educated, empathetic, and largely reject attempts to inject the cancerous American culture into our way of lives. Our violence is largely restricted to angry people terminally online, drunken pub fights, and old men yelling at clouds.
