I'd be like "We'll even pay for petrol. Just take him"Plot twist. Sam Mitchell turns up and McGrath requests a trade to the Hawks

I mean though, it was reasonably easy to foresee that was going to happen the minute we lost to Richmond
Unless your name is Oscar AllenTrue - I just wonder if it might have been an eye opener as to how far back we still are (granted a trillion injuries).
Otherwise I’m with you - you don’t change your mind overnight after a ‘coffee’ with another coach

Edmund discussing the Merrett situation at the backend of this update
- He still actually hasn’t told the club he wants a trade.
- He is mandated to appear at the Brownlow.
- Edmund wouldn’t be surprised if Merrett at some point does a press conference or public statement to force the trade.
- Essendon is still resolute that they won’t trade him. View this as a marathon not a sprint.
- Cornes again super critical of Merrett and the way he has “burned his reputation”.
- Edmund tried defending his approach as “Essendon wouldn’t listen otherwise”. Cornes was having none of it.
Nope, not for me. I can’t wait to see the back of him to be honest, for a bounty of immense proportions in return though of course…Gee I'd love it if we made him stay.
Its not like we have much else to lose.
We have enough draft picks, and young players.
Strip his captaincy, put him back out there.
If he sooks it up, then he'll just make himself look bad.

As Cornes has said, Merrett still hasn’t told the club that he wants to be traded.Eh, I think they're both correct, he has completely ****ed his reputation and legacy but I really doubt the club would have traded him otherwise.
I agree. Also helps that there are examples of players (like Oliver) who wanted out and now wants to stay with the Dees. What if he has a doctor's note for the Brownlow?
Also agreeing with Kane this much feels so dirty.
Also, I really don't like the fact that when people are discussing trade options and they suggest something which is clearly unders for us or just not what we need - they throw in "and you won't have a player that doesn't want to be there" like it's some kind of bonus or win for us. That feels cheap. I still maintain that if push comes to shove and we cannot get something that is clearly a win for us then we hold him to his ****ing contract. Melbourne did with Trac. Maybe we revisit it next year. Some difficult convos would have to be had but that's also the bed that Merrett made.
If Butters isn't available this year then maybe we get to look to see if a deal can be done if not directly with Port then with Hawthorn or another club which involves Port and gets Butters to us
