Jiath would be a solid replacement for McGovern, but if we're trading a future 2nd I'd want some other favourable picks swaps involved.

Khamis is worth steak knives, nothing more. Do not rate him at all.

They are contracted players who we are prizing out, presumably offering a spot in our best 22. Dogs and Hawks will be happy to keep otherwise. F2 maybe a bit heavy but not far off imo.

Chesser
Jiath
Reidy
Khamis

Although they're not all established players i really don't see where all the picks/player swaps are going to come from?
We have 2 parts of fa available to trade with atm.
Still a LOT to play out in the trade period. It's been mentioned a lot, but there'd be a fair chance we'll look to split the TDK compo pick, which would give us trade capital.

And as a hypothetical, if GCS trade Flanders, they'll have additional trade capital even lower down in the draft that could then be used a steak knives in a Curnow trade.

Many many different scenarios.....and with Wright now at the helm together with Austin, I'm confident our list strategy is in fairly safe hands.

They'll be even more reluctant on Humphrey than they will Walter...

It's just postering re Walter, they know full well they won't be able to fit all of them in the one side... Jed will know this too...

This could be true but I rate Walter very highly. At the same age he's comparable to Charlie but has his whole career in front of him.

I'd be extremely happy to get him - but there is the risk that he doesn't come on like expected obviously.

I'm not at all confident about charlie's knee being any good either so there is risk on both sides.

If you recall, Wright has made mention that we lack depth and many here say the same, so apply the logic to possible acquisitions.

We aren’t using multiple assets to bring in a single player like Butters.

More likely, we will use the loss of TDK, SOS and possibly Charlie to bring in 4-5 best 22 prospects

CJ will be a great get for us, has great ball use

Outside speed and meters gained type of player.

Great ball use? Not sure about that. This year he’s looked very nervous and unsure with ball in hand and his efficiency has suffered.

That said, we don’t have his type on the list and I think he’s a smart get.

We're interested in anyone with pace it seems. Chesser, Petrucelli, Jiath, Flanders... will be interesting to see which of these are actually true. Chesser seems a lock at this stage.

Clearly Flanders is the best player in that lot by a mile. Unlucky not to be in the 2024 AA team. Excellent ball user.
This feels like Callum Chambers Mk II.
Athletic, dumb footballer.
Are we ever going to learn?

Gold Coast…
If you want Curnow time to pay up! Curnow would make you legitimate flag favourites next year…

Rowell or Humphrey +

Or

f u middle finger GIF by Midland

A 191cm utility Khamis might be a little Bowerish but a 185cm medium defender Jiath doesn't scream Bower to me

Screaming at unpredictable ball use out of defense screams Bower to me...

It’s not about getting excited over these names. It’s about building further depth and I’d say with the view of someone like Buku or Chesser to make a claim for best 23 on a consistent basis by lifting another level or gear. Chol for me is a great example of late.

  • Buku challenges Kemp if forward. Or can provide depth as a 3rd Def tall.
  • Chesser challenges Acres, Ollie and provides more width on a wing instead of needing to play a 33yo Haynes as a winger, pulling him from his backline role he’s playing great in.
  • CJ provides more zip at HB, and whilst it’s debatable around his smarts, we are looking for speed and a good distributor that isn’t an aging Newman.
  • Reidy provides challenge to Pitto and HOK, allowing HOK to keep developing and making him accountable to warrant games, not just walk up into them.

I like the Chesser and Buku pursuits. Reidy makes sense. Not an advocate for CJ, but we do need HB depth if it’s not him. Add hopefully Dean and Ison to that somehow to the first three and also see how Curnows situation pans out. We need to replace the lost experience. Lord, Moir, Wilson, Jagga etc. get a preseason with senior games in the locker now. I can see what the List Management team is maybe trying to do. But they need to really nail it with some key figures and experience gone.
I understand your point but your wrong. What we need is to get our list health for once, have a preseason without a ACL. Get a full preseason Walsh, not send someone for a operation at Christmas because we thought they didn't need one at the end of season. Add a quality big defender, sneak a pick in before Dean, fire up Jagger and bingo, Flag in the bag

Its an interesting point you raise - is this acquiing depth also about providing an opportunity for the younger guys to develop further in the VFL? I would argue they have shown enough to play AFL but maybe need more time in twos
Billy has shown plenty at the AFL level. He'll be our Saad replacement with some more experience. Good pace, good step through traffic, good hands, good kick. Tell him to grow a pr0n mo like Army's and he'll be the new cult figure next year.

Honestly, I'd be looking to play Billy for half the year next year with a couple of spells in the seconds to work on anything that comes up. With Saad's hammies creaking like a ships mooring lines, I'm expecting him to be rested a couple of times as well. If we're getting Buku, then CJ is just depth?

That really comes down to them not allowing CJ or anyone else to take their place. We need to build an environment with depth across every position, where players must consistently perform well to maintain their spot.
Charleson is going to be a second year player next year. He has shown a ton in the VFL this year and should have had a debut late last season. Wilson is looking very good from his exposed form so far. Both of them will make it at the senior level.

How are players like Wilson, Charleston Hogg and others in the VFL not tried before we recruit the same type players.. Someone said they were going after some forward from Brisbane who is playing VFL.Didnt they have a guy called McMahon that was kicking as many goals as that guy but were too conservative to give him a go on the list
Darcy Hogg isn't on our list. There is a good chance he might make it onto our list after a good year in the VFL side.

Charleson (no T in his name), is a first year player.
Billy Wilson has been tried in the AFL and was quite good in his limited time this year.

We tried a bunch of guys who were playing in the VFL over the last couple of years... you know HOK, Moir, HOF (another first year player). Our development system finally started producing this year as well. And there are a couple of other VFL players who we might be looking at as well.

It's called recruiting for depth.

My hawks supporting mates would give us CJ as a salary dump thats how much they rate him
And our old first round pick? Isn't that how the AFL tried to set up salary dumps a couple of years ago?
