Calling someone mr September when they haven’t played a grand final
Is like calling Liz Ellis mr football
It’s a laugh
When he’s won 4 norm smiths 4 Ayres medals and 4 flags to over take dusty I’ll happily address the duke as mr September .

Ratings hahaha

Two can play this game.

A Freo supporter thinking they can be the arbitrator of who and who isn't a Mr September, when they have never won anything in September...

Difference here.

Point 1 is reasonable.
Point 2 is an ad hominem trying to discredit someone's view based on team support.

What does his clubs lack of success got to do with what opinion he can have on the game? Rhetorical question.

My ad hominem I could use is to discredit everything you say on the basis of being dumb enough for a wizard hat avatar. But that's equally as stupid.

He can start by manning up. Then worry about the nuisances of positioning and intercepting. He is a full back, they might actually kick it to his man on a lead.

Alternatively we could have switched Murray on to Gunston and not left him to flounder.

Keane’s weakness is that he positions himself aggressively to intercept, but when the ball moves quickly, and he’s playing on a really intelligent forward like Gunston, he can get lost a bit. Darcy Moore is similar in that way.

If you said to him to focus on manning up, we’d lose his other assets. That’s actually what happened earlier in the year when Butts/Murray weren’t playing.

I’d rate Keane as a good defender, who is a level below Andrews, Taylor, Barass etc

Weird take.

You know we’re all just watching the game and have no actual impact on the result right?

You supporting a successful club doesn’t make your opinion any more or less valid.

"I'll address Newcombe as Mr September until he does something nobody in history has ever done."

You're deliberately being obtuse for effect. You know what he meant even if the numbers were a tad off.

Newcombe wouldn't even be in the top 10 finals performers this century.

Nick Daicos.

Can't kick over the mark, can't lay a tackle, has never had a contested mark.

Treated like an all-time great, where in reality he's Andrew Carazzo in stripes.
I genuinely feel for you sad flogs. You haven’t had any joy for 30 years so you can’t appreciate talent and are just bitter old curmudgeons. I’m sure Vossy will rocket you up the ladder next year and you can look more positively on life

the no contested mark call isn't even true anymore.

We have had plenty of joy.

More brownlows and colemans than any other team in the last 20 years.

We have had modern success, not the dated old measure known as "flags".

🫣

Where does one trade an ‘02 flag for Frase Gehrig’s Coleman and a ‘24 premiership for Priddis’ Charlie?

I've never worn a Hawthorn number. I did laugh at a Freo supporter in 2013 who stayed till when Hawthorn were doing their victory lap. ✌️
got it!
1. Support a Successful team
2. Laugh at others misfortune
Any other tips to increase my football knowledge?

Kidding yourself.

Every player has something they can’t do to an elite level, but I have watched Daicos have enormous influence on countless wins for the Pies, often single-handedly being the difference. I think your bias is showing here.

Its absurd we even have to say this but here we are

Absolutely this. I don't want to hold him in high regard, like most I think I've been conditioned to champion the contested possessions, the pack marks, tackle count etc. It's why wingers rarely make the AA team (no one really loves someone waltzing around outside of the contest - unless they're wearing your colours)...but then you watch a Pies game and it's impossible not to think "jeez he's good player - I wish he played for us."

Doesn't mean I want him to win the Brownlow (god knows the media jizz over him enough already), but if he does it would be very hard to say he doesn't deserve it.

Not at all.

But he's being called 'the new Mr September' based on an actual statistic, not just being he's played well and we've won a couple.

Also, Hawks fans aren't that interested in the Dusty 'comparisons' anyway if we're honest. We had Luke Hodge dominant September for years. Having our 'new Hodge' is everything that makes us happy.

Can't forget his current coach in the September comparisons (who I believe is one of the most underrated players in finals history) but is also far more comparable as a player. Here's one of his 7 game finals stretches (2014 and 2015):

2014 QF vs Geelong - 36 touches, 6 clearances, 4 goal assists - clear best on ground
2014 PF vs Port - 26 touches, 4 clearances, 8 tackles - top 3 on field
2014 GF vs Syd - 33 touches, 7 clearances (including all 5 centre clearances in the 2nd term when Hawthorn blew the game open), 9 tackles - unlucky runner up in the Norm Smith (a performance that would have won in most other years).

Named best finals player at the premiers.

2015 QF vs West Coast - 35 touches (#1 on ground) and 10 clearances - clear BOG in a loss.
2015 SF vs Adelaide - 33 touches (#1), 4 clearances - one of the best on ground
2015 PF vs Freo - 35 touches (#1), 5 clearances - BOG
2015 GF vs West Coast - 34 touches (#1), 6 clearances, 4 tackles (2 assists) - unlucky runner up in the Norm Smith.

Named best finals player at the premiers again and comfortably holds the record for most disposals in a final series.

P.S.- His next final he had another 30 against Geelong and just before (2nd last final prior to) the above streak - he had 38 (and 11 clearances) to be clear BOG in the "Kennett curse" game.

It's a shame the Ayers Medal didn't exist earlier as I think it would be great to better compare the finals credentials of past players - I think Mitchell would be viewed differently given I he averaged 29 disposals in finals (I think the highest in history?) with exceptional ball use, as well as averaging 6 clearances, 11 contested possessions, 4 tackles, etc - I think he may have the most finals BOG's in history (albeit with no Ayers votes to back it up).
