No money
They are the best at getting players jobs
Good networking

Wasn’t that the word when Nick Smith signed there around the time they came across to the EFL?
Wasn’t getting paid heaps per game, but his first season worked out to being worth something like $60K to him (iirc they got him a car, place to live + a couple of other perks), on top of them getting him a well paying job.

Don’t see it as much now (or I’m just not paying attention!), but I can always remember ads in local papers etc from footy clubs advertising for players with the lure of getting them a plumbing apprenticeship or whatever.

Seems to be the way VAFA clubs get around playing players.

Just out of curiosity, where is all this money coming from?
Landing the coach was probably a start. Have tended to have high profile coaches with big contact lists. (McGuane harf sando)
When mick and harf were there they had a deal with SEN to name the ground etc.
Ex president wilson (allBanx) i understand has put a motza in
Some speculation about another previous president and less salubrious income stream - but still profitable - back in the sfl days not sure if any of that cash lingers…

I played against them back in the SFL days. I couldn't imagine they would become the powerhouse they have in this league.
