Disagree on Miers and Dempsey is well on his way - special talent. Holmes won't be moved but would be a perfect swap.

Miers is A-grade everyday of the week but so important to them.

I'd start with Miers or Holmes and if its a no, I'd walk away and block their number.
you think Curnow for Miers is a fair swap?

That's bizarre.

Buku couldn't get a run in the doggies senior side so we take him 🤦‍♂️

It's depth, mate.

We can't go signing A-grade players for chips at will - especially after the year we've had and the direction we seem to be going.

Dogs are a good side, he's a fringe player for them, he will likely be just that for us - which is totally fine, one of the kids will be determined to take his place ASAP, which is exactly what we need.

The more mature bodies we have in our depth the better off we will be - our depth this year was atrocious.

Love seeing fans complain about how we need to start getting players in on role rather than name - then we do that and they complain that they aren’t good enough
So I've been whining about getting another KPD since Jones left. Strangely The club don't listen to me.

There's nothing wrong with Flanders, but he wants to move for mid time. If he comes to us, along with Humphrey who will get mid rotations, with Jagga already needing to be accommodated as a genuine mid, plus Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett and even Lord already having strong claims on midfield minutes, plus rotations from guys like Williams, Moir, Motlop, Hollands, Chesser.....how much of that midfield time is available to him? Looking a few years ahead to Cripps and Hewett moving on, we also have the Campos developing and Walker in the 2026 draft.

That's why I'd rather address the forward line gap via someone like Fritsch or Walter, and why I don't think Flanders himself would want to come to us (especially paired with Humphrey). It's just not a great fit for either party.

Now...if we want to pull something left field like trading Cerra, as an example, that might change things. But I doubt we go that far.
If we have Motlop, Moir, Hollands and Williams running through the midfield somethings gone wrong. I know Jesse had a few spells there this year but its not his jam.

Hollands and Walsh have to be our starting wings whenever available.

Lord has taken great strides forward and I guess would be the likely successor to Cripps and Hewett as that inside bull. Flanders is more your Cerra type but quicker and a better 2 way runner, tbh id move Cerra to Fogs hff spot and have him delivering inside 50 like freo had him doing before he came to us.

So theres plenty of room for Flanders if you want to upgrade the team overall, as for Humphrey hes a 3 goal a quarter game breaker, his most dangerous when he's inside the fwd 50 not gathering the ball on the defensive half back line as a midfielder.

Cripps Hewett 30+
Cerra 25
Lord 20
Smith 19

As pure centre bounce midfielders, i recon we could use a top up, and also if you notice theres not a great deal of pace there either. The ability to spread is almost non existent.

Who we perceive as a 'A' grader is very subjective and used way too much in a side full of champions, and is not really a true reflection of their ability.

It's a lot easier to accumulate with teammates hitting you lace-out, and distribute with teammates knowing when and where to spread or run in support, or kick goals or do the 1%'s when you have a team playing on a high energy vibe.

Take any of those players and put them in a team with a poor culture, heavy atmosphere of supporter expectation - all baying for blood, and only the TRUE champions can shut that out and still perform.

As a side note, I think that each individual move so far is not especially encouraging, but I can see the sort of vision of all of them.

Replenishing the list by targeting roles and bringing in hungry guys

Agree - if we’re ever going to be a great club again, we’ll need to identify and pick up role players who then perform better as part of a team. Yes we haven’t done that well for a long time, but we need to start.

The other approach; just bring in top line stars to fill gaps, is delusional and cannot happen for a million reasons.

I think it's more Motlop's jam than a forward pocket ;) and I say that as a compliment. He actually looks semi-dangerous hitting the pack at pace, he'd just need to get more time there and spend more time working with the mids and rucks to get those plays mapped out.

In general play, whenever the ball pushes towards one boundary or the other then one of those two wings is becoming an on-baller. Walsh is also much more than a winger, though I agree he should be used there extensively.

There are a few more players in the mix too:
Chesser 22
Wilson 20
Campo 19
Walker 17

I'm not anti-Flanders as a player. I just don't think he's quick enough or damaging enough to form any part of a trade involving Charlie Curnow. We have other more pressing needs than another Hewett/Cerra/Lord type balanced mid. And just as importantly, I don't think he'd look at our list and think "yep, I can see that on-ball position that I'd be stepping into". I think he'd be looking at our list and wondering just how quickly he'd end up parked back on a flank, either forward or back - especially with a coach coming into his final contract year and with a generous helping of pressure on him already - a coaching change late in 2026 and all bets are off in terms of any promises made.
