Selfishly, can Charlie just stay? My kids have some nice Charlie paraphernalia that I really don’t want to have to get rid of. Plus my almost 2 year old has started pointing at the framed Charlie print in my son’s room and shouting “Charlie! Football!”. So for that alone I need him to stay.
Just don't tell them until after you break the news about Santa and the Easter Bunny

If we were to get Humphrey, I'd have zero interest in Flanders, and suspect he'd have next to none in us.

Charlie to GC
Flanders to Melbourne
Humphrey and Fritsch to Carlton

It's probably not far off "fair", though I think Melbourne probably come off best and we don't get quite enough for Charlie. Balance with picks/pick swaps as needed - future second from Melbourne maybe, to help with Cody.

If we could convince Walter to move, and GC to part with him, would prefer to just do Charlie for Humphrey and Walter - but I don't think they're giving up two very highly rated (and contracted) young players in addition to a best 22 player like Flanders this offseason. Maybe if Humphrey is on the move, they can convince Flanders to stick around though.

Newman, Weitering, Dean
Cowan, Haynes, Chesser
Hollands, Cripps, Walsh
Pittonet, Hewett, Jagga
Humphrey, McKay, Moir
Motlop, Fritsch, Williams
I/C: Carroll, Cerra, Lord, O'Keeffe
Sub: rotate guys like Saad, Evans, Cottrell, Kemp, Durdin, Jiath, Khamis, Wilson etc. as appropriate

Backline feels like it'd have a strong defensive game as well as good drive and ball use. Midfield retains the necessary grunt and outside run but gains some class and creativity.
Forward line full of threats, maybe lacking a little defensive accountability but I think it's a trade-off worth considering.

Stacks of versatility in reserve to draw from.
25-30% different look about it, I'd be happy with that.

I feel your pain I’ve got a 7 year old who finally is starting to pay attention and get excited about footy after doing the Charlie Crew session this year. All I have to do is say Charlie’s name and you can’t wipe the smile off his face

So we trade a 29 year old star with selective effort and knee issues for a 21 year old thought by plenty to be the next iteration of Dusty and demand more in a blind desire to win the trade.

Charlie forcing an exit evokes the need to ream a suitor, but I don’t think we need much, if any in the way of steak knives. Maybe a third rounder this year or next to assist with trades or points to help with bids at a pinch. The Suns need their draft capital to match bids. Letting go of a young gun may help keep the AFL from invoking a first round look out for academy and father son picks.
Perhaps if we don't ream GS, the AFL might give us band 1 for Jack.

🤣

Who am I kidding.

Whats wrong with Flanders? Cripps and Hewett are how old? I want Humphrey being that 70/30 Fwd Mid like Rayner. Flanders could comfortably fit into a mid rotation, also a good age balance. Plus if cripps is having a year like this, he can go fwd and try and give H and Kemp a chop out.

He's a bull in an extremely balanced, experienced and well disciplined team, one with a number of smart, 2-way runners with good foot skills.

We already have a big bull, and a coach whose Plan A is bulls and his Plan B is do Plan A better.
We need different, not more of the same. And Trac 2025 is not Trac 2021.
Trac 2025 forward edition is still worth it. Just not sure what they'd want.

Did Charlie show up for it ?

There's nothing wrong with Flanders, but he wants to move for mid time. If he comes to us, along with Humphrey who will get mid rotations, with Jagga already needing to be accommodated as a genuine mid, plus Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett and even Lord already having strong claims on midfield minutes, plus rotations from guys like Williams, Moir, Motlop, Hollands, Chesser.....how much of that midfield time is available to him? Looking a few years ahead to Cripps and Hewett moving on, we also have the Campos developing and Walker in the 2026 draft.

That's why I'd rather address the forward line gap via someone like Fritsch or Walter, and why I don't think Flanders himself would want to come to us (especially paired with Humphrey). It's just not a great fit for either party.

Now...if we want to pull something left field like trading Cerra, as an example, that might change things. But I doubt we go that far.

Having watched a LOT of Sydney games over. the past few seasons, all I can say is that even if they traded one of Gulden or Warner for Charlie they would still come out with a net improvement in their starting 22.

Put simply - and crassly - their current stock of tall forwards are simply no good. As in, barely AFL quality.
Amarty - at best, solid support.
McLean - more effective as back up ruck
McDonald - underwhelming when able to get on the park.

And more importantly, none seem to have the desire to stwp up and be the number one banana. That role is left to Heeney more often than not. If Sydney's midfield don't kick goals then it's all on their medium forwards. Too much is left to too few.

The improvement they would see by bringing in Charlie would be immediate and impactful. Even at the cost of losing Gulden or Warner, whose roles can be replaced from someone already on their list, albeit with less talent than either.

Question is whether Cox is crazy/brave enough to back in the Bloods culture to address a glaring weakness in their team at the expense of a position they have depth in. Would be a hard sell, but as Sydney know, success sells.

This is why I've mentioned Ballard
Position of need.
Not a GC/Qld local.
Coming back from ACL so some risk which gets priced into the deal.
GC have been without him for the year so would have their heads around him not being there.
And of course how better to replace Charlie than with another Charlie?

Will be straight back into their team. 100%

Sorry l don't rate Pitto. Very one dimensional ruckman.
HOK is a long way off being a forward at afl level.
We are kidding ourselves replacing the loss of those 3.
Well you can be 'Sorry' all you like. Unless Liam Reidy is ready to go, Pitto is going to be the man in 2026.
