Really?

I’d like to think it would put even more fire + focus into the Boyz 🤷🏻‍♀️

I see your point.

There's a certain amount of media and other obligations that goes with it

And maybe not quite winning it could give more fire in the belly

There's a passage in the first quarter where Josh Hunt attacks a ball hard that was going out of bounds, kicks inboard to a contest where Ottens provides a contest and it spills over the back to a wide open Chapman which chip kicks inside 50 to a wide open SJ, who walks in a simple goal.
At that point I looked to my old man and said "we've got this, game over".
He DID NOT approve!
But to me, at that point, Cats were playing the way they had been that got them to the GF, and you could tell that unlike the week before, the situation hadn't gotten to them, they were playing freely and Cats way and it was just a matter of time.
Although I am an eternal optimist.
I believed we were going to win it when Ottens ran down the Port defender trying to exit our F50 in the 1st quarter.

I knew for sure when Chappy took the big speccy over Tredrea.

The way I see it, going into a grand final with a brownlow would make you feel like you've got invisible armour on. You know you've been the best player of the season. There's nothing to be afraid of. Bartel in 07 etc.

At halftime of 22 I was hopeful, but also aware that Sydney had been the second best team all season and that if they kicked the first 2 or 3 goals of the third, it could give them some momentum

When Isaac Smith kicked our third of the quarter, which hadn't really seemed to be going for too long at that time, that's when I knew it was ours and there was no coming back from Sydney - we never took our foot off their throats and it was beautiful to watch
The moment i knew it was over was the Duncan tackle and goal after half time at that point you could see they would never let Sydney back into the game.

My weird brain always asks itself questions.. Here it is.

If you could choose to win the GF now + Danger NS, but Danger hangs them up if you decide yes... Yes or No?

I'm struggling with that one.
Champions retire when there is nothing else to prove
Super Stars retire when they can't perform at elite level
Great players continue on to leave a legacy milestone.
Most Star players retire when then their body is spent

Then there's Rhys Stanley, who the club has Weekend-at-Bernie'd through the last two seasons.

Stanley was due to retire at end of 2024
Asked to play on, as replacement not ready
If he plays in GF Will give it all he has left.

No doubt he'll give it his all

But Rhys has already signed on for 2026

How does everyone actually feel about getting Worpel?

I must say, I was very unimpressed with his limp performance the other night.

Would prefer Curnow for the lolz

Likewise Newcombe and Ward. Our midfield simply overwhelmed theirs.

He was better the previous couple of weeks. It's hard to see him beyond depth or to help nurse Atkins etc through a long season though.

I trust the club on this one. I don't see it being a disaster or a raging success.

Bailey Smith winning the Brownlow would be great
Some players may hate the attention and distraction
Not Bailey... when in some pushing Argy-Bargy Q2 of PF
Mate started shouting "Calm Down Bailey, Calm Down!"
Told him... No Way... Fire Up Bailey, Fire Up!!
Bailey uses the attention and pressure for Motivation.

I rewatched it last night. Did we lose focus during our week off or were the Hawks just intent on trying to floor us with their very best punches in that first quarter? After we 'worked them out' we were the better side but bloody hell, that first quarter!
Although it was a poor quarter, we did actually have chances early and late to get a few more goals. Instead we got either fluffed entries or missed shots on goal. Our ball use was a bit erratic and Hawthorn were super efficient on the counter attack.

Once we got a bit of reward for effort and started hitting targets we seemed to find our mojo. By half time we were all over them and probably should've been a couple of goals up.

I recon we were a little tentative, but also observed that Hawthorn seemed to burning a lot of petrol early, they were running much harder than us in the first 20 minutes

Trying to get off to a fast start causes a False Start.
Instead of reacting to something, players anticipate.
Attempting to gain advantage causes players to rush
Likewise players will attempt higher risk disposals
This can cause entire team to become Out of Sync.

Teams that react quickly but predictably are composed.
Smart players exploit opponent anticipation with a baulk
