I simply don't understand how you can seriously think a 2 game stretch over a 4 year career has some kind of bearing on trade value simply because it was in finals, especially when he went missing in the third one and got subbed.

So by this logic there is zero chance Hawthorn has changed the contract offer from when he was at Box Hill ?

Sure, they might. I haven't heard anything regarding that.

I'm only discussing his trade value.

For instance, over his career, Chesser has better averages and played more games but we're looking at losing him for a mid 2nd rounder, if we're lucky.

They both went in the same draft, 9 picks apart, and both have had severely injury-interrupted starts to their careers.

They hold similar trade value.

I mentioned already Butler is hard to value and we need to see more of him. It's correct in saying we only have a small sample size (not really his fault) although what we have seen this year has been great though.

Next year is the big one for Butler, another preseason and more conditioning in his body we would hope the conditioning helps him back up games, one thing I do feel confident in saying about him though is there is no questions around his intent, is a goer.

Because of this I hope he stays because I can see a role for him in the team.

He had a stellar finals campaign

We rate him highly, even more so after the finals. If you wanted him dirt cheap, you should’ve targeted him last year

And unfortunately we are chasing 2 guys who will get over $1m a year each and we dont know if we will get either.
