2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

That’s an interesting idea, but it still goes in the cap?
Anyway, Wilkie’s being offered 1.2 million by the kennel dogs, right? And he’s on 750,000 for the Saints, right? And he’s 29. Something is gonna give.

Ever wonder that these offers being slung around are torpedoes that do a lot of damage even if they don’t sink the ship (lure the player to leave). The Bulldogs weaken our treasure chest if he stays if we need to pay him more, which I bet we will.

Don't know if anything has to give. Contracted until the end of 2027. It is the manager agitating and feeding the chooks, this time Edmund. Why should we be rushed into a new deal with Wilkie? We have to land Aleer, Ryan and possibly Flanders first.
Then we can come back to Wilkie and say we have an upgrade but it is a two year extension and it is backended? Or some other combo. Who knows?
The most likely option is he just stays. The least likely is he wants to go but the Bulldogs wont pony up. The most unlikely is he actually get to the Bulldogs.

We have driven up the prices on numerous players when we were after them, it is something that would always come back, it is what it is.

That dude was commenting on the Saints on pages that didn't even have anything to do with our club.

campaigner is obsessed.
I think he is a bit special TBF. Lurks boards and does ironic laughing emoji's on perfectly logical posts.

Very weird unit.

Roma should look at TDK coming in as an opportunity to extend his playing career by not having to carry the bulk of the ruck work. As well as knowing that when he isn't rucking we're not having a part timer taking over.
Because they are versatile we can also use both guys in other roles which means we aren't necessarily giving up a position by playing 2 rucks.
Having both guys playing also tactically allows us to get better match ups against opposition rucks. Because they have very different ruck styles we can determine who they will be better suited against.

We would also have the option of resting them from time to time to keep them fresh.

The Bulldogs' top choice will have to be on the table if Callum Wilkie pursues a move from St Kilda to take up the Dogs' lucrative four-year offer, however the Saints are not considered likely to budge if their gun defender looked at a move.

What about the off season? Mid season bye? He will still return and catch up with his mates.

But a Captain paddy style fatwa on seeing his mates. After about 6 months you'd bank on your culture and some separation providing some clarity. That's the best I can think of though, still probably a fair old punt for those teams.

Thats it. In a nutshell.
All the rest of the noise surrounding this is irrelevant.

Ahhhh yes, pick 10 in a compromised and shallow draft for a contracted top 5 defender in the comp... Bulldogs you've done it again.

Roma looks banged up to me -has no leap i would think he would benefit greatly by TDK coming in

I might be the only one here.

But I don’t really see the need for us to pitch to our own players before pitching for recruits.

You recruit and work the rest out later.
Agreed. This is the media making a story out of a nothing situation. Soon they’ll report water is wet.

Weve disputed the measure of success.

Im not saying ship Roma off cause **** him but there really is no precedent for playing two first choices rucks together so as it stands Roma is absolutely surplus to needs.

We should do whatever works best for us, if thats using Roma in that role then so be it, but most metrics support not playing two rucks and Roma has never looked particularly engrossing as a key forward.
Imagine Chris Scott meeting Rowan at the end of this season. His team just made the grand final again, maybe won another premiership. They need a ruckman. He's telling Rowan "You'll be mostly in the forward line at St Kilda and only pinch hitting in the ruck. We actually need a senior ruckman. You fancy trying to reinvent yourself as a forward? Or how about you do whst you do best, nearer home, living the country life, no loss of salary or security"

What would you say?

King is the real bonus IMO. If he stays fit we have a tall target and probably gain 2 plus goals per week in firepower directly or indirectly. TDK helps turn centre clearance into a threat too. If you add Ryan in there it's probably a potential extra goal a week too.
Liam Ryan for me. New club, rejuvenated enthusiasm. If we can get him through a full pre-season unscathed I reckon he's going to be so much fun to watch.

"Sounds great, but I'm contracted. You need to satisfy St.Kilda in a trade..."

I would say yes. But it’s not up to him. He signed a contract

It doesn't matter what he says, unless the Saints gets their targetted trade he stays.
