2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Actually pretty ordinary IMO. You should communicate the plan to your senior leaders at least. Selling the dream is part of keeping the list together these days. The best coaches are the best communicators and bring the players along on the journey.

It's not Supercoach. It's trying to designing a game plan to maximise what you have available and the players are then the ones having to implement it. The senior guys should go back to the younger ones and keep the rest on the path.

I'm hoping that the journalist is wrong.
So when Lyon was on Agenda Setters the day after NAZ signed and said senior players were given a 50k bonus and told about the strategy he was lying?
It is a farcical tweet. If Marshall is so dumb to think we haven't been after a ruckman he is just not paying attention
Draper
Xerri
Witts
TDK two years ago.

He actually played the exact role when Paddy Ryder was there. It is a load of crap if the facts of the matter are laid out. Manager driven as they are always after the best outcomes for themselves.

Not to mention Soldo last year. It’s a nothing story driven by his manager and given oxygen by media who need to fill their quota of clicks.

I think he was more effective for them as a forward. Kicked a haul against us. I bet his best day in front of the sticks is better than Marshall’s. The other thing to consider is cost. Doug’s will be on below afl average wage.
I think Doogs being moved forward at Port was one of the reasons he wanted out.

Heard on SEN this morning the list of runners for the GF sprint. I am sure I heard them say Jack Higgins!
I would doubt he is our quickest sprinter. Who would be your pick?
I know he’s not a sprinter but Wilson is our best runner. I think they usually just give it to someone for the free GF ticket.

Could lose a decent bit of trade value. He is 30 I think the club would be smart to cash him in while you can. That pick might be needed for Flanders or Cmac.
Rucks are one of the positions that least loses its value. Look at Tom Campbell, Goldstein, Paddy Ryder comi g to us,even Heath being sought by another club, shows there is a long shelf life for a ruck.
You think Max Gawn wouldn't get value even at 35 y.o?

Anyone know the qualifications to be an IDK? Maybe we need to set a criteria for a genuine ITK on the forum, then the moderators could create a special post just for ITKs?
Everyone is an IDK, which stands for I dont know.

Let’s face it, Ro is nowhere near a good enough ruckmen to be pandering to when it comes to future planning. He has been a top 10 ruck for maybe 3 years of his career. The past two years he hasn’t been. We needed a better ruck and we got one. How Ro feels about it is irrelevant, we weren’t charging up the ladder with him as our sole ruck.
Agreed. We do however need to make Geelong pay through the nose if they want him. He's contracted. They need to pay overs. And that aint a pick in the mid 20's.

Higgo is going to take off and be out the back on his own before the rest of the field hears the starting gun.

Agreed. He is a good player, but his ruck work makes it very hard for our midfield has has lacked talent in recent years. Even with the NAS emergence we lack talent in there to challenge top 4. He needs a partner and play a more diverse role to stay. If that upsets him than so be it.

I we let him go for their first it needs to be part of a bigger play for another best 18 player that fills a need and is younger. The pick in isolation is of no interest.

We couple pair it with other for Flanders. They don’t necessarily want pick 7. They want points.

I hope Flanders does select Saints, but does anyone really know other than himself?
We have been putting work into him all year. As much as opposition fans think we're just throwing darts, I think there's some method to our madness and we've been working on the guys we want long term. I would be surprised if he doesn't nominate us - King is obviously a last minute choice for Melbourne but I feel he's probably already in the bag for us, but let's see.

If Marshall gets traded it will be for their 1st rd pick. Maybe we swap our future 3rd for their future 2nd or something to sweeten the deal but I doubt it. Might be able to split 7 for a couple of picks in the teens and send one of those plus geelongs 1st for Flanders and keep say pick 11-12 for ourselves.

If it’s so cut and dry he would’ve requested a trade already and it would be everyone’s fish n chips paper. There’s some things not worth reading into - Ro will stay if the club doesn’t get what’s worth their while
Agreed, a point ive made many times.
I don't think so. That thrn means every time there is a change in strategy your going to tell the players first?
Its a bit dependent on the player.

This example seems pretty straight forward, you only play one ruckman, were paying someone (reportedly) triple his salary to play his position. Its probably worth considering his input to that.

Some players also wont care, they just wanna play their role and work in with whatever comes.

In some cases you need to coddle them a bit, in some cases you dont.

To be clear, i doubt Roma WASNT consulted or told in any way, given how the TDK stuff played out in the media he would have to have been a total moron to not know.

So you’d pay two firsts for Flanders?!

Marshall and Flanders would be basically a straight swap.

We had a crack at Flanders before he signed his last extension too.

in this hypothetical we’re using the exact same picks and players (Marshall and 7 out, Flanders and pick 17/18 in) except we would essentially move up from 18 (more like 25) top hopefully early teens. In what world is that crazy, Flanders is 100% worth a top 10 pick or 2 picks in the later teens

Marshall and Flanders would be basically a straight swap.
Cmon. People here need to stop vastly overrating the value our players and drastically under valuing other teams players. Marshall does not have the same trade value as Flanders. Gold Coast would not accept pick 18 for Flanders on its own, and they’re the easiest team to trade with in the comp. Early 1st vs late 1st Trade value.
