Did he win his two ruck battles this finals series? There have been 20 possible coaches votes for a given Geelong player and he has taken 11.

You’re talking to a bloke that’s was stressing before the hawks game about no Stanley playing against Meek and now saying Blitz wasn’t even that good even though everyone had him in our best including the coaches. Don’t even bother

You may be right. I dont know. But one example of that from 18 years ago doesnt proove that point at all. Especially one as awesome as geelong 2007. Ive seen plenty of posters try to make the case it does matter with a lot more then one example.
Essendon 1993
North Melbourne 1996
Adelaide 1997
Brisbane 2001
Port Adelaide 2004
Sydney 2005
Hawthorn 2008
Bulldogs 2016
Richmond 2017
Melbourne 2021

Not a lot of previous grand final experience on those lists.

I was also concerned about him against meek but I have eyes and accept new information when it is presented to me

Half of the Brisbane Lions players are first round picks. They play like billionaires but not as a team. Geelong is full of ragtag players who play as a team. That's why Geelong should win.

That helps but the reason why Geelong should win is in the coaches box.

Such an amazing club - regardless of the result, got to be damned grateful to follow a team that plays such an entertaining brand of footy, develops and renews talent without much trouble and is contesting yet again. Huge kudos to everyone connected.

Got to be honest - ignore the QF and the bookies - it is going to require an incredible effort to win. IMO, the gargantuan challenges are-

  • hugely worried about our defence without Stewart and Henry possibly carrying an injury, the inexperience of COS and shaky form of SDK. Blitz will help but will rob the mid field if we’re under pressure there. Also can’t see the Lions smalls being as ineffectual as last time. Think our mids and forwards are going to have to flood back as much as possible.
  • Andrews. Got to avoid him dominating. Neale has to run off him and open up the space behind or aim to bring the ball to ground. I’d also rather chaos balls rather than skied kicks that Andrews and Gardner can pick off. Got to make it a ‘lead up’ and open up space game.
  • Biggest challenge are the mids. Sure, so effectively blanketed by Atkins and Mullen last game but 100% guaranteed Fagan and co have plans to address. Wouldn’t be surprised if there are reports from this game. Also expect to see Mullen dragged deep into Lions’ forward line at every opportunity. I’m thinking the Lions use max physical pressure on those two and anyone tagging and niggle Smith (and Clark and Dempsey) at every opportunity. I think that we have sufficient physical intensity in Danger, Atkins, Mullen, MOC and Mannagh etc to meet the challenge.
  • inexperience- 10 GF debutants - against a 3 in a row team.
Don’t get me wrong - if the Cats can bring and execute their ‘A game’, we’ll win this. If we bring max pressure on the mids and make it a fast running game on the wide MCG, use the incredible fitness, talent and super smarts of Cameron, Dempsey, Mannagh, Stengel etc - it is ours. I’m expecting a super hard first 40 mins - if Cats are even or even few goals down, subject to injuries and good execution, we’ll win. Could be a GF ‘for the ages’. Who cares - just get it done Cats!

Your first two points have always been the elephant in the room for me, and a source of worry I've tried to ignore, knowing every game is different. Also not wanting to point a finger at weakness in what is a winning team, but you are spot on. It's only going to take three of those defenders to be off the mark, inexperience or prone to error, whatever you want to call it, and we'll be behind the eight ball.
Live in hope that Neale, who seems to be a slow learner positionally, is better for the run against Andrews, with lots of wise heads reinforcing his game plan. Wanting to see a Hawkins like break out GF, he's a beautiful kick, so why not. Cometh the time, cometh the man? Get in FRONT Shannon!

Is He going to be our Clark Keating ?
I'd say it's about minimal disruption. Stewart out, Blitz & Stanley have done the tandem ruck thing before with each dropping behind the ball.

No time to go completely wacky.

More than that, the rest of the side knows how to play alongside it, too.

Is it the preferred option? Of course not. It's really the only viable option we have.

But good to see us sniping at each on here now ... been far too amicable for my liking.

Only 6 players left from the grand final team. Big turnover in 5 years

The 2020 grand final team or 22 premiership team?

I'm not really sure the relevance of looking back at the 2020 team would be

So I was much more nervous last week than I am this. But for a strange reason. Last week I could not see a logical reason that the Hawks could beat us - they have 4-5 good players and we were always going to be able to stop 3 of them. We were a far superior team which made me not sleep going into the game as the loss would have been two lost opportunities in two years. On top of that it was the Hawks - and with these new young forwards they are even a worst version if that is possible. So the stress of an illogical loss was too much (lucky I am not a player!)

This week I think I am more relaxed as I can see how Brisbane can beat us. They are a very good side with a dozen stars. And they have a (high risk) formula that if they pull it off they can get through out defence. And Harris Andrews who is just flat out good. So I am not stressed about the loss being a disaster.

Of course it will be extremely disappointing as I believe we are a better team. Some stars but also more depth, more ways to beat them (they really just have one), a master coach (who has some tricks still to play) and players in good health. Nerves will build as I do expect us to win, but I am not carrying the weight as a fan in terms of just see how we lose (2008 style)…

What a club we support to give us this chance again to risk disappointment or bask in the glory

To be proud of our turnover in 5 years.
Richmond's best 22 this year had 7 from that game and they're complete ass.

If Andrews gets off the chain we have a backup we didn’t have in the Qualifying. I reckon we will give Neale a chance (he got beaten last time but not as bad as the times before) and see if it is hurting us - and then pull the trigger on Blitz forward as soon as we need
