Don't underestimate the influence Trent Cotchin has had at the Brisbane Lions as well. Every ounce of advantage a club can get, it certainly does all add up.

In all of the happiness that we are experiencing right now, I am still worried about the outcome for Starces career.
I hope for his sake he has signed a contract with someone and that means that he still has some income for a couple of years if he is forced to medically retire.
I’d like to think the club would offer him an off field role if he hasn’t signed anything with the Eagles.

Coaching might be in his future.
He’s a fine defender, might make a fine defensive coach too!

A couple of things stood out to me.

The quality of Ashcroft and Fletcher. I'm not even sure how Will does it or what he does. Watching the game I thought, he might be the best player in the game and it's just from being really really good at football. Reminds me of Sam Mitchell, not in play style, but in terms of being a pure footballer when draft experts want to find the new modern athlete. The polish of these two boys though really stood out compared to Bailey Smith, who works really hard, types. Pendlebury. It's like Pendlebury. Pure class wins out.

Zorkos bravery and depth of kicking was so impressive. Holmes tried and completely failed, but that's ok, Holmes is a good kid, just mentioning to provide contrast. What Zorko did was play with courage and executed. To kick with that penetration, at that age, and play with that decision making speed is pretty special. And it wasn't just today. Ripped our guts out at the perfect moments.

Rayner off the back of the square twice was something. As in something either he worked out or someone clever did. Geelong were tapping backwards then trying to get their mids to swing around and take the ball forward. We weren't trusting overlap runners as our players were engaged, more on that in a second, so it meant our mids were arcing their run to turn forward and kick. Rayner seemed to know that and punished it twice. That was Cyril Riolo like in impact, now you are snapping recklessly for fear of another hunt down. I thought it was exceptionally clever and impactful.

Geelong were favourites etc etc but looking at the list we have we could as easily not make the 8 as do what we did, and it's a credit to the coaching staff and players that we get where we got. This isn't a woe is us, it's to make this next point, we played a few players in dedicated negating roles. Blicav, Neale, Mullin, O'Connor all had jobs today. The Grand Final felt like the dam wall broke and offensive quality overwhelmed our multiple negating tactics. When key lions were held others popped up, when we moved someone McCluggage went bananas with freedom. No criticism of Geelong, no sour grapes on our list make up, incredibly proud of the players some of these kids have become. More an appreciation of the depth of quality Lions have and the type of footy that can still win, ball winning, match winning football.

Harris Andrews. Put his career against anyones. The nature of that position, forget getting the plaudits he deserves. But we all know. Opposition fans know. Every "dumb" forward entry because it's within 50m of Harris Andrews. You start thinking of other ways your players should kick it in "maybe if kick end over end he won't mark it and we can at least get a stoppage". Crazy.

I don't like the Lions, except when they play Collingwood. They aren't my second team or anything like that. They won this grand final emphatically. They played exceptionally. They were coached beautifully. A lot has to go right to create dynasties, some luck maybe (Hawkins, Scarlett and Ablett like Ashcroft x2 and Fletcher), but the hard work to go from where the Lions were ten years ago to what they achieved this year in winning back to back is the stuff of legends. It's undeniable. When we compare eras, Tigers, Hawks, Cats (my personal favourite) we now have the Lions x2.

Apologies for the part self therapy, part praise post in enemy territory. Mods feel free to delete. Just needed to get that off my chest.

I was trying not to get ahead of myself but when Lachie kicked that goal in the 3rd the thought came through my head , this is our day.

I banished that thought immediately but if I'm being truthful it just felt like the moment where we broke their spirit.
Agreed, not only was there a noticeable shift in the crowd after that goal, the players on both sides too (both positive and negative).

I was thinking after the game that that was the breaking point

I heard Dunkley mention on 360 how much Cotch has helped the lions mentally prepare for the big games.

I had to sleep on this to digest what we've achieved here.

Payne, Coleman, Doedee, McCarthy, Answerth, Hipwood, Berry for Grand Final - this team manage to withstand a long list of injuries throughout the season and kept finding more gems and depth from the squad.

Hardest draw of the season - media want to position it as second hardest but in my books we went through hell in second half of season to emerge top 4. The win against Fremantle at perth set the tone and beating Hawks at Gabba topped it off.

Won the more difficult games while dropping some easy ones - Geelong at GMHBA, Pies at MCG, Hawks at MCG. When the challenge got bigger, this team stepped up big time

Brought in juniors and new faces who just hit the straps and went bang all season - Marshall, Levi, Gallop, McLachlan and even Bruce. It was great watching them go to work and be part of the system at various stages throughout the year.

Our backline deserves its own praise - Andrews, Gardiner, Lester, Starcevich, Wilmot, Zorko, Answerth, Fletcher / Ah Chee / Berry rolling back from wing to help defense - they were all amazing all season. To think Lester and Zorko are having the best phase of their careers at the very end not to mention they are both dual premiership players brings utmost joy to the supporters from the dark days. May long it continue.

Big O getting the medal was a special moment which was cherished by all. What a war horse, knew his role and battled manfully all through finals and ended up with a well deserved medal. Same with Fort, never in his dreams he would've thought he'll be a dual premiership player before retirement. What a story in our ruck duo. Both are extremely underrated and as a duo, they complement each other so well.

Ashcroft brothers have written their own storyline into the Lions folklore - I hope they both re-sign and become the one club players with many more premierships and success with our club. Will took ownership and led the way whenever Neale was unavailable. He was majestic all through the season, Amazing effort.

Lastly to our core - Rayner, McCluggage, Berry, Dunkley, Neale, Andrews, Hipwood, Cameron and I'd even include Fletcher there after his extension to 2030 - been guiding us from the front at various stages of adversity and delivered at the big stage once again. I can only watch in awe at what you've become and I am sure there are more pages to be written in your success story with the Brisbane Lions.

It’s remarkable to reflect that with just four minutes left in the third quarter, the scoreboard told the story of a low-scoring, hard-fought arm wrestle, 45 to 44 in our favour, if memory serves.

Then, in a breathtaking burst of brilliance spanning the final minutes of the third and the opening four of the fourth, we found our rhythm and unleashed a brand of football that was nothing short of scintillating. What unfolded wasn’t just a surge, it was a moment destined to be etched into our folklore forever. I’m just grateful I witnessed it live.

Must be one of the best 30 minutes in grand final history

I'd love to know how many of you wonderful Lions supporters who were there yesterday had travelled down from Brizzy and other parts of Queensland. Just a sensational effort. Serious commitment to get down here for the Grand Final especially given how tight and expensive it is to get flights, accommodation and tickets

Felt like yesterday was the best and biggest support for any Lions game in Melbourne.
Have a fabulous day enjoying your celebrations everyone.

I seem to remember there were naysayers and "experts" declaring that Brisbane Lions couldn't win a Premiership with Joe Daniher playing for us.

Then, after Joe retired there were those saying that Brisbane Lions couldn't win a Premiership without Joe Daniher playing.

Well, they were all wrong

What a club - what a team - what a coach - what a day - best supporters ever.

In my mind if we were with them at HT we were a massive chance. Cats threw everything at us in the first half and we withstood them and the one sided free kick count. In fact I thought Cats were holding on at HT. We made it a contested game and after HT the game broke open and they couldn't go with us. Just tore them to shreds from about mid way through the 3rd qtr.

All year we have been complaining about our inability in front of goal but in the last qtr we couldn't miss !! Watching goal after goal sail through down the punt road end will be a memory to last forever with all the Lions supporters down there. Lions fans out sang/cheered the Cats supporters for entire match - that was some effort in itself.

I could go through every player and say how brilliant they were but will leave that to others. I just want to give out a special mention to Darcy Fort who was superb in the ruck. Darcy Gardiner who has been through the hard times at this club and never left, missed out last year but was brilliant the last month and one of the best on ground yesterday.

Oscar -what can you say - never been a more deserving Premiership player. He did his role perfectly yesterday. Stopped them taking intercept marks and made a real nuisance of himself.

Love this club and love our players and coach. They have given us some of the best days ever that no one could imagine ten years ago. Let's soak it up and enjoy the celebrations and then re set for the 2026 Premiership.

Go the mighty Lions.

Gary Lyon commentary is something else 😂. Always brings up who we're bringing in next year or the father sons and academy.
I think he's upset that Melbourne fell off a cliff. Anyway, he can always head down to the Surf Coast and get driven around by Danger.

What a win - what a great team to support - its been a long road at times (I remember back to the bears days and the decade before this success) but worth all the distance to get to this level again.

I said in another thread we don't have any super mega stars - we have stars all over the field and that is what makes us so amazing. But this TEAM is a super mega TEAM. You take a lot of the individuals in isolation and they probably aren't 'the best' in their position but there aren't many across the league I would want to bring in to our squad.

All the talk of the young talent and our continued success is true, but again around all this commentary is the fact that the only reason this young talent is involved is due to the injuries we have had. Without the injuries does Jaspa Fletcher even go back and have such success? Do Ty Gallop and Sam Marshall play at all this year? Does Bruce find his feet and look like a key cog? This is all used as evidence of the academies as an unfair advantage - it is evidence of the great work the team and coaching group do to have these young players ready to go and be able to be part of the system and look like stars from the get go. Hopefully we keep them together and going for a long time to come.
