Harris Andrews and big bodies like Dunkley etc is what wins flags

Don’t need Curnow for the price

Except when Brisbane won it last year with Joe Daniher. Or when Geelong won it in 2022 with Jeremy Cameron. Or when Richmond won three with Jack Riewoldt.

Harris Andrews and Dunkley types are absolutely needed too. But it’s far too simplistic to say forwards like Curnow aren’t useful in winning flags.

Cameron didn’t get a kick in 22

JR obviously was good

IMO the game is going away from kf and the final series just showed that

I haven’t really looked but what was Curnows finals like?

I just think we shouldn’t over pay

It’s not exclusively about what they do in a GF though. Big star forwards like
Curnow get your teams into the top four and deep into finals. That’s where you win a flag from.

I agree of course the game is prioritising having a band of small forwards and high forwards to form a dangerous forward line but there’s absolutely still need for tall forwards who can win contests in the forward line. Curnow is that.

There is a need for a marking tall , Sam Reid like

Curnow will cost to much

Again he is 29 with injury concerns and a his finals record is again average af

So you are saying we are into Newcombe, then. Excellent.
I think when people throw up names, its not so much that we're chasing them or have even thought about getting them, it's more the style of player that would compliment our list. In Newcombe, I see a hardened warrior who runs hard and puts his body on the line yet is still tidy with his skills. We need at least 4 guys who fit this description who can run on ball. At this stage, we have one in Heeney. Chad is not hard enough, Rowie butchers his disposal, Sheldrick likewise and he also runs out of puff. Mills and Errol on ball would make the on ball unit look better but is it robbing peter to pay Paul?

That may also be a bit simplistic, as most premierships have been built on one or two excellent KPDs. Ours are both good, but not excellent.

The whole 'you don't need good key forwards' argument is fine when you have Zac Bailey, Cameron, Rayner, Lohman, and Ah Cee flying around like lunatics in the front half.

We don't have enough dangerous forwards period. Doesn't matter what size.
Where we not the highest scoring attack last season though?

I spoke to someone ITK about the Charlie situation.

100% wants to leave Carlton.

100% wants to get to Geelong. That’s where his heart is. Sydney / GC are a distant second.

I left thinking it’s Geelong or bust.

Not sure we want him if his heart’s not 100% in it.
Apparently will nominate the cats tomorrow

Just hope we don't panic and overpay for trade targets. While we need high-end quality, we also need youngsters coming through who actually show something in the VFL.

Our bottom 6-8 players need some genuine competition for spots, because I don't see the likes of Corey Warner, Bice and Bowman having an impact at AFL level. Could also throw Will Green and Matt Roberts in there, too. If they're our next five players in, outside of the starting 23, then we are in serious strife.

If Jeremy Cameron didn’t kick 65 goals in 2022. Cats don’t make the grand final.

List management decisions based around who plays well in the grand final ignore the elephant in the room.

You need to make it first.

Better chance of making a grand final with a Curnow type than not.

Although I have to assume the Cats might be reconsidering "generational talent" Shannon Neale as an untouchable after looking completely lost yesterday...

This isn’t true. Analytics would say what impact a player has above their replacement.

The question is how much more does Cameron bring at the price he is paid. Leaving aside the Geelong discount say he was on $1m and he could be replaced with Marshall from port or Tracey from freo at 750 and the extra 250 is used to bring in petracca using Selwood retirement as the cash.

The issue is never like for like but what is the sum of the parts that can be accumulated
