He does that all the time. ‘If I told you about the unimaginable obstacles and countless unseen catastrophes we have overcome in dignified silence, because we are too humble and stoic to make them public, you would think we are gods. But I won’t even bring them up because we are humble and stoic.
Also, gods. Also we’d have won easily if not for the sub rule.’

Softest draw, no injuries and jetlag in their round 22 fixture against the Swans were the challenges

Here's a few thoughts on the big win.

Norm Smith Medal

On gut feel, I would have awarded it to Zac but it's hard to argue with the 33322 votes for Will by the Panel. Especially when Wash had these stats: -

Possessions - 32 (#1 for Lions)
Metres gained - 575 (#2 behind Clug with 577)
Clearances - 10 (#1 )
Assists -5 (#1)
Score Involvements - 10 (equal #1 with Zac and Clug)
Tackles - 8 (#1)

Those are pretty compelling

Lachie as Sub

Owning up here. Earlier in the week I was against playing him at all, then gradually warmed to the idea of him as sub. Over on SEN all the pre-game talk was that "sub" didn't make sense, he was either fit or he wasn't, weird choice by Fages, should start the game then be subbed off later, what if they sub him on and he lasts 5 minutes, blah blah, yadda yadda.

Ended up being a master stroke. Lachie was stunning. 17 possessions and 7 clearances in a half. Geelong looked totally clueless about what to do about him......and dat goal!!!.....truly inspirational.

So much for my opinion and that of the "experts". Guess that's why Fages is he Coach and not me or the other tryhard experts

Dangerfield

Although he had a poor game, that runner's up speech was all class. Best by a runner up Captain I have ever heard. Much respect. His whingy whiny coach could take a leaf out of Paddy's book. Instead of saying "I don't" Want to make this sound like sour grapes".....and then do full sour grapes.....oh the sub rule is awful.....complain, bitch, groan, grumble

Fages

Comprehensively outcoached the "genius master tactician".....again.

Our man is a fabulous human being too.The world would be a much better place if people like Chris Fagan were in charge

Back to back

I don't even want to think about a threepeat yet, just soak up this incredible achievement for the next couple of months and let 2026 take care of itself.

I feel great and I'm on world record pace for handing out likes to just about any poster on this thread.

Anyway, I'm of to the AFLW game and the Fan Day at BHA.

Go Lions, you bloody good things

Still lying in bed with a sore head.

I’ve only watched the replay of the last half so far but I’ve had to change my votes. The bulk of the third quarter felt like the ‘pounding the rock’ metaphor becoming manifest in real time.

Then, in the last five minutes, a crack appeared and lachie’s goal turned it into a fissure that you could get the tip of a wedge into.

Then, in the last, bang, bang, bang…within minutes it was a crevice and soon the rock was in pieces. It was the most beautifully orchestrated demo job I’ve seen and I’ve pulled down quite a few houses. Never destroyed a dam wall, but that was what it was like. The prep, the anxiety, ‘is everything in place?’…then the first squibs go off, which detonate the big explosives, then BAM!, the wall collapses and a city of soggy cats gets drenched in a deluge of mixed metaphors.

It was the third and early fourth quarters that won it for us and at second impression I recon Zork and Charlie were the chief engineers at the crucial stages. Without Zork’s boldness we’d be half as good. Charlie’s one percenters were as meaningful as his marks and goals. Harris , Gardiner and Lester worked brilliantly as a unit all day. That’s as good a back three performance as we’ve had in decades.

Still can’t believe it . NINE FREAKIN’ GOALS IN THE LAST QUARTER OF A TIGHT GRAND FINAL!!!!

Hawk supporter here and I come in peace.

Just wanted to say thank you for what you did yesterday...thank you. And not just the result but for Rayner driving Senor Bailey Sniffy McSniff into the ground as well and for driving Chris Scott insane in his post match pressor.

Just thank you and congratulations.

Lots of Hawthorn supporters coming in here and praising us for beating Geelong, but they really should be here thanking us for giving them a prime gun forward Jack Gunston 🤔🤔

We were talking about this last night.

So many happy lions supporters, some new some rusted on.

Does 17 years count as rusted on? Some of you lot are 30 years

Surely WE rusted on feel it differently to the members who joined in the last three years. We get a kick when we compare this feeling/era to some of the rubbish games we went to. The comparison feels as good as the win.

And some of the wins back then feel just as memorable. The miracle on grass, the 44 point win to get into finals, the trashed hawks jersey on the road after we beat them the first time in years. The goal celebratory hand shakes. Dan merrett. Brown and bike v the car.

Ahhh the memories.
I jumped on board after attending the Fitzroy Team of thev Cevntury dinner in 2001.

Congrats to the Lions. As much as I didn’t want to see them win. Being a pies supporter. But, they deserved to be there and deserved the win.

Next year I’m sure the Lions will be back there. With the players that are said to be coming in, Lions will be scary

Ah yes their F/S rorts like Scarlett (One of the best defenders ever), Hawkins, Ablett brothers, Bews etc

Add them to the St Kilda whinging pile
Not to mention half of their salary cap is covered by Cotton on and the other half are given farms at a 90% discount. Biggest rort of a club out there.

I think he's upset that Melbourne fell off a cliff. Anyway, he can always head down to the Surf Coast and get driven around by Danger.

I believe we broke him when we beat Melbourne in that semi in 2022. He was never the same since then. He knew that was his team's chance to go back to back and we turned the tables on them.

I remember him pushing for someone to be suspended after that game etc. Cranky Lyon.

Geelong board calling the AFL a rort for using multiple picks for Levi Ashcroft. Guess they forgot they got Gary Ablett Jr for pick 40.

We are at the bolded phase with them at the moment. this too shall pass.

The Five Stages of Grief
This model was developed from work with people facing a terminal diagnosis, intended to provide insight into their feelings, not to serve as a rigid timeline for all loss.

  • Denial:
The initial reaction of disbelief or shock, where the reality of the loss is not fully accepted.

  • Anger:
A feeling of intense frustration and rage directed at the situation, or even at oneself or others.
    • Bargaining:
An attempt to regain control by negotiating with a higher power or making "if only" statements to reverse the loss.
    • Depression:
Overwhelming feelings of sadness, withdrawal, and despair as the full weight of the loss sets in.
    • Acceptance:
A period of coming to terms with the reality of the loss and beginning to adjust to a new life without the lost person or thing.

Yup was trying to get Berry suspended for the 'eye gouge' and it worked, given a week but was overturned eventually.

We got better things to do than listen to a literal cheater anyways. Awful human being.

Wonder where dangerfield head is today.

Blinder of a game last week, couldn't back it up this week. 35 yo. Lost the chance of a premiership - will we get here again?

Wonder if the word retirement has popped into his head in the last 24 hours? Not a serious thought, just an unwanted intrusion.

What a 24 hours! Watching last year’s Grand Final I never imagined we would have another Grand Final with the same feeling of ‘oh my god what is happening’ style disintegration of an opponent with at least a quarter of our players knowing the game is won. And revelling in it.

I did enjoy how our run started at the end of the 3rd quarter, in the supposed ‘Dread time’. It can’t have helped the Cat’s mindset going into the game that everyone thought the Cat’s win was all but assured?

I must admit that I also bought into that thinking- I thought we were a chance but a Geelong victory was far more likely. Sometimes I will manage my expectations so you’re not too bummed out if we lose. However I should’ve been more mindful of Mike Whiting’s comment that he would pick Brisbane as they keep winning when they’re up against it, and he would keep doing so until he saw evidence indicating otherwise.

I also enjoyed Andrew Wu’s slight dig at one of David King’s favourite comments- ‘don’t get beaten by what you know’, given David’s general worship of all things Chris Scott.

Not much Scott did worked. Mark Blicavs tried to get to Harris Andrews, who, along with Darcy Gardiner, was impenetrable when it mattered.

Scott was beaten by what he knew. Shannon Neale was comprehensively beaten by Andrews for the second time in this finals series.
